Great video! I'm Bashkir (Bashkort) from Bashkortostan Republic. I read that we have common ancestors. I'm descent from Yurmaty tribe which is also mentioned as Magyar tribe on Danube (dyarmat) . I think the number of Yurmaty in Bashkortostan is about 15000-20000 people. I wish I knew Hungarian language and visited Hungary

Hi Noorbash, where did you readed about common ancestors, it's interesting! I readed about Magyars, they were europoid type, nomads from the ugric language family. What I readed about Bashkirs is that their ancestors were a turkic language family, so mongoloids. Even the language is so different. I see only similarities in nomadic ways of life. But yeah if we will go deeper we all are brothers and sisters withs same ancestors :) And all ethnicities and nations are so mixed nowadays.... So who knows :) GREATE VIDEO!

As a reenactor of ancient cavalry myself, this is by far the best edutainment video I have ever seen. Even better than I thought could be possible. The way the single shots are so minimalistic and short, with such well lived movemets in fighting AND crafting really immerses me into the information given. Which is perfectly researched, interpreted and then shown. All that in BEAUTIFUL reconstructions of clothes, weaponry and living conditions. Thank you so much. Please more where that came from, I believe videos like this could change the way history can be made accessible for humanity.

When the book Ancient Hungarians came out and Europas Mitte Um I made my magyar heavy cavalry and horse archer kit apart from the bow that Csaba Grozer made for me. It was great making the ornamentted tree of life belt plaques sabertache and sabre. The Magyars never get the credit they are due because of the viking love affair people have. Everything I made was a copy of a original piece using the same sizes and techniques in making these items. I am a silversmith so lucky. That was over 20yrs ago!

Did Magyars use thumb draw or three finger draw on their bows? Who knows? - Maybe during the conquest era in the 9th and 10th century they used thumb draw and adapted three finger draw later from Western European people? The following is a historical source: In 1432, Bertrandon de La Brocq́uière, a traveler from Burgundy, while returning from Jerusalem traversed Hungary and in his book noted about Turkish and Hungarian archery; “Their bows are like those of the Turks, but not so good nor so strong; and they do not use them so well as Turks do. The Hungarians pull the string with three fingers, and the Turks with the thumb and ring.” (Hungarian cavalry from Chronica Picta, 1360’s, National Széchényi Library Archive, Budapest)

No one would've put the arrows upside down into the arrow-quiver like so. With sharp cutting edges its inpossible to take them out safely unless ones doing it very slow and carefully. that's diappiontingly unaccurate. According to Dr. Hidán Csaba, the nomad Magyars never took out more than one arrow at the time, thats what the quiver for: to keep the arrows there untill actually shoting them.

Dear Zakk! Actually it works perfectly, and way better, than the other way. In this case they could easely choose between the different arrow types. This theory was tested in the last years, and noone ever cut his fingers with the sharpened arrowhead. That is why it was represented in the film.

There was a case where they carried the quiver that way, but you are right, otherwise the mountains were not facing upwards! I don't know why they invented this? The length of the arrows changed a few centimeters, and so did the color of the plumage. From this, they knew which one was needed when. In addition, the Hungarians put 10 canes in their hands in a special grip. The tips are always forged and sharpened with an ideal entry angle of 27 degrees. It also pierced the armor of the heavy cavalry.

contradictions.. the guy in the video show us how they made the weapons, but you tel us, it was: "Trade or plunder?" WTF? You relay think we don't believe what we see or already know? Who are you by the way? I guess MTA= Magyartalanitó Tudományos Akadémia? OK no Questions.. HU: Ott mutatja be hogyan készítette a fegyvert. Meny a fenébe MTA nincs rád szükség!

@foldvary_laszlo There is no contradiction: "The manufacture of this equipment required a high degree of specialist knowledge and workshop capacity, which was NOT NECCESARLY available in the Carpathian Basin. The Magyars of the time, therefore, acquired them, AT LEAST IN PART, through trade or plunder or as gifts." Which means they most likely manufactured and bought that kind of goods. I hope it helped...

Invader: replaces already existing society. Like early arabs. Conquerer: tames and integrates into already existing society. Like Macedons of Alexander. Correct me if I am wrong, but Hungarians don't seem like living in yurts and practicing pagan rituals today or in the last 1000 years.

A magyarok Hódítók voltak a Kárpát medencében. Ezek a megszállók a 19.században mesterségesen kreáltak nyelvet,történelmet, országot maguknak.
