In the Jungle (Marimbas)

Sunset View Elementary school's 5th grade Rugare Marimba Ensemble. These kids travel the Northwest to play for other schools and private groups. Their teacher is amazing and talented and inspiring. He invests a lot of time and care into these students. One of the best experiences our family has had!

Just amazing!! Hats off to this bunch of kids. I just cant express my love and affinity towards marimba music. This by far is the best I have experienced. Its a fabulous job and extremely well Orchestratored and mentored. Three cheers for this awesome piece of music. God bless you all !!
These guys just played at UW. I was having a stressful day of homework and tests and happened to walk by where they were playing. It totally made my day and put a smile on my face! I'm glad there are programs like this, everyone stands something to gain from them!
Walt IS awesome! What an opportunity he gives these kids...He really helps them connect to music and see a future for themselves involving music. We have enjoyed every minute with him and the Marimba group. Happy to see that there are newly inspired marimba groups in your area! Have fun with them!
These kids are great. I heard them in San Antonio at TMEA. They are amazing.
Really lovely - great work from students and teacher!
Such Talent and dedication should be rewarded and applauded loudly, well done I hope all of them still have this feeling for music

This arrangement is most likely one of Walt's. The African name for this piece is Mbube. There are four different arragements for it in Colleen Hart's books.

Does Mr. Hampton still teach marimba in the Seattle area? Woodinville? Any bands looking for a 10-year-old (who hasn't had lessons, but would be interested)?
love you
Hello. Can you tell me where the marimbas were purchased, or the brand name? I am an elementary music teacher and I recently received grant money to start a marimba ensemble. Thanks.
Where did you find this composition for marimbas?

+Suzanne Newrick Where do you live? There are lots of marimba groups around the Northwest, especially Portland, in Hood River and/or The Dalles and the northern Olympic Peninsula. Any one of them can probably show you the parts to this as it's pretty standard. If there were sheet music, it would be copyrighted; then wouldn't you have to pay for performing it? Marimba version is also called Mbube.
wow
Where is this school located? Is the marimba program only offered to 5th graders?
What was that huge thing in the corner?!?
could you send the notation for this. My students would love to try it. :)

My strings teacher showed us this
For God's sake give this piece of music its real name "MBUBE" in Zulu to us westerners" The Lion Sleeps tonight". Solomon Linda who wrote this never received any royalties for this music in his lifetime because of crooked music promoters, so do not perpetuate the injustice for want of a name.
I did this at my school

The girl in the red pants needs to stop the grooming crap. Scratching, fishing a hair out of her mouth, adjusting her seat, etc. Very undisciplined.
