I must admit I just discovered this underrated series through reruns on late at night! ( it’s great for insomnia!) Carroll O’Conner was a huge civil rights advocate and a truly great human being. The episodes all address issues that have social relevance and the actors really did a great job handling sensitive subjects like incest and the death penalty. Glad I stumbled across it!
It's a great show, and still holds up well in repeats.

Absolute best show! It truly does make you want ro live in a town like this. I am originally from Conyers, Ga which is where much of the filming took place at the time I had started college. I remember one time I was back for the weekend and was working out at the only gym in Conyers at the time and Alan Autry, "Bubba" came in to work out too. I was doing some kind of modified bicep curl exercise and he came over to ask me what it was. Anyhow, from there we worked out together. Super nice guy. At the time I didn't know who he was. Also, my brother worked as a production assistant for the show early on. I miss those folks, but still watch re-runs.
I used to watch this with my grandma good wholesome show it dealt with real life issue going on.
" I love this show, in the heat of the night!"
I loved that show. Always will.❤ Loved the cast especially Alan. ❤We need more shows and casts like this now. Love all of you and sure miss those no longer with us. Thanks for great memories. R.I.P. Mr. O'Conner; Hugh; Harold.

In 1981 I was offered a job as a police officer in Covington, when my enlistment was up. I have kicked myself a lot for not taking that job. It was a nice little town. Thanks Chris Barlow and family.
This was a show that deserved all the accolades it received and continues to receive. When the program actually ran I never watched it, believing wrongly it turns out, that a TV spinoff from that great film couldn’t possibly be any good. Now, watching the reruns on Amazon Prime I find an excellent series, well written and well acted and I can easily see why it has such a great following it was just a superior TV series on every level and deserved all the popularity it achieved.
