ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Welcome Part 2 of this rare opportunity to hang with SYNTH GOAT Mike Dean and mess around with all the instruments in his personal studio. Super-Tech Rob Rosen and I talk to Mike about a number of subjects including his: vocoder, stacking synths via MIDI, modified CS-80, modified Jupiter-8, Synth Template for Songwriting, working with Kanye, working with the Weeknd, drum machines, his favorite synths and more... Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss if you have even a passing interest in contemporary music.
Mike is best known for his synthesizer-heavy instrumentation, songwriting and audio mixing for high-profile music industry artists including The Weeknd, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Jay-Z, Drake, Madonna, Selena Gomez, and Lana Del Rey, among others. Also, Mike was the opening act for The Weeknd's "The After Hours til Dawn Tour", performing live at stadiums on multiple synthesizers.
As a solo artist, Mike has released a series of critically acclaimed studio albums each showcasing his distinctive style and innovation: 4:20 (2020), 4:22 (2021), Smoke State 42222 (2022), 4:23 (2023), and most recently 424 (2024). He's a true pioneer shaping the sound of modern music and a trailblazer across genres.

I think we’re on the verge of a new wave of creativity in the synth world. These past few years have been dry to say the least and I think Mike Dean will give people more reasons to get inspired to create new ideas in this genre!

I hope so. Not to say there's not good people out there. But it's nice to see more coming through.

Honestly I learned about Mike dean only recently and lately I’ve found myself writing synth pieces I know I wouldn’t have made if I hadn’t come across Mike dean.

yeah, i just found out about Mike Dean and have a huge inspiration now to dive into my synths
The annotations that clarify names like Forat, or the equimpemt discussed, is much appreciated.

Yup- it makes these video´s essencial !
Mike Dean is a chiller. The fact that he just casually rips a fairly clean ROOR mid conversation made the video.

He literally dontgivafuck what people THINK about him - His work shows why,- He´s Unique , and thankyou GOD for that !

@@MikkelGrumBovin no one should, most people's opinions are shit and based on other people's opinions of other, slightly smarter people's opinions. Mad Dog Mike Dean is the one those slightly smarter people are copying.
This is absolute gold. I love how authentic everyone is. There’s no bullshit. This is what people want, not 15 second clips that don’t say anything.
I so love the lack of over-the-top production. Some of the small comments that may have seemed insignificant in editing really add to this whole experience. Good move keeping it raw.

The greatest part of Anthony's Videos are the tiny diamonds hidden in the conversations.
I love this format, it’s like I’m in the room with you all
First time in ages that I haven’t skipped through a synth video -both parts. This is what us players/composers enjoy watching and I think it’s fair to speak on everyone’s behalf.
Please keep making videos with mike dean, I love watching you guys go over every small thing in the studio. Its awesome watching 2 GOATs make some tunes.
What a great time to be alive 🙏
Shoutout to the crew lugging around all the gear making these videos! You guys rule!
4:54 "Vocoder" is the Digitech Talker from the 1990s. Those things went from $20 in the used bin to now close to $1,000! You can see it in part 1 too.
My lord that CS-80 is devastating.
