Nice scenic excursion, Jason. Although we know of sites on our Victorian fossil coastlines, and there's protections, but we haven't checked what's legally allowed, yet! We've found fossil seeds, wood and sap that's turned to a black but lightweight glass, teeth from animals unknown, in our inland mountainous creeks, though. Whether the right conditions exist for opalised fossils along ancient shallow inland coastlines, your NSW has such areas. In Vic there's instances of boulder opal, although can't say how boulder size is defined, how big one's rock cleaver and hammer need be, on TV it seems they're fist to skull sized. I've found fire opal, as seen in WA, but here in Victoria, small bits, but haven't done any larger holes for potentially larger bits, as the site is locally touristy and we're perhaps unnecessarily too apprehensive, but we have reserved the excuse that we're making steps for safety reasons... Lol. I see your “work” everywhere then. Opalised remains would be amazing to find. I believe they are in the more north/western regions that I am yet to explore. But how easy they are to find and access is a whole other question. Cheers, Jason
