    Not trying to downplay how amazing they are but if you watch them then you will see they trade off who is dancing and that helps them not get as tired during the whole dancing part Sutton on the other hand dances the whole time then has a very short time to catch her breath then sing a very long part with one breath Everyone in the cast in so incredible tho and I’m so sad I never got to see it live

    Here's Sutton speaking about this very performance : "This is so funny, again I was coming off a really bad cold, and I was so scared shitless already about playing Reno. I was on levaquin, this antibiotic that sometimes causes leg aches and leg pains-I don't take it anymore because of this day. So I was coming off bronchitis, and the very the first time I had every sung ‘Anything Goes’ and hit the high note without cracking on it was that press rehearsal when everyone had their video camera on it. I remember after the tap dance, I had massive leg cramps; so I had to go around talking to the press and I was hobbling and I had to take my shoes off. I thought I was falling apart. People talk to me more about that video than any other video. I remember when Kathleen Marshall started teaching it to us the little girl in me said, ‘My god, this is what I dreamed of my entire life. This is what I love about musical theatre.’ That day was the first time we put it up, and I think there’s something exciting about the first time you do something before anyone has any opinions on it-it’s really pure. So that rehearsal video is incredibly pure. We don't really know what we are doing and there’s an essence of joy and naiveté of what that number would be or what we were about to embark on. We were all just trying not to f up." www.broadwaybox.com/daily-scoop/sutton-foster-reacts-to-six-youtube-videos-from-her-past/

    If she was taking levaquin it's a drug class called fluoroquinolones... one major side effect is that it can cause tendon ruptures! She's super lucky she didn't severely injure herself; that makes this performance even more amazing.

    Jeff, ask yourself this: Does George Clooney have Foster's talent? How about Jennifer Aniston? Justin Bieber? The Kardashians? The two starlets from "Two Broke Girls". How about Bruce Jenner or whatever his new name is now? Anyone who regularly makes the covers of People magazine or any rag that coins who is and who isn't "Hollywood Elite". Do they have any of Sutton Foster's talent.? Can they pull off a number like Foster's "Anything Goes"? As long as those people are making the covers, they are representing Hollywood.

  • @JeffFreemanPresents

    @JeffFreemanPresents

    9 жыл бұрын

    Let me make sure I understand your question, Elizabeth. When you say Foster's talent, do you mean singing and dancing specifically? I don't think any of the people you mentioned have experience with those particular skills (although Sarah Jessica Parker, John Travolta, Nick Jonas, Hugh Jackman, among others do). George Clooney has different talents, for sure. He's acted, directed, and produced some brilliant films. But I'm not going to defend the particular individuals you mentioned (certainly not the Kardashians, or the Jenners). I'm afraid I have a different distinction for the word "Hollywood." I don't agree that it is defined by People Magazine. I think the covers to which you refer are for the stupid, ignorant masses. I don't look at them, so I don't really know what is on them. I went to a dinner party several years ago, and happened to be seated next to Doris Roberts. We got to chatting about New York theatre, and Broadway (which she did extensively), and I asked her about "Everybody Loves Raymond" and what she thought about "plastic Hollywood." She turned to me and said (and I quote), "I surround myself with talented and exciting people wherever I go, and I suggest you do the same."

    How are their taps so clear? How is everyone in the chorus incredibly attractive? HOW DO THEY KEEP THEIR FORMATIONS SO TIGHT? HOW DOES SHE BREATHE? I have so many questions. (Also, the last 5 times I watched this video I exclusively watched it to see the little flirty glances between Sutton and the blonde she leans on early in the dance. It's SO cute.)

    The breathing thing...there are a lot of great singers who naturally utilize the "nasal" part of their voice in singing - this produces the highest level of resonance while using the least amount of breath. You can hear this in some people's speaking voices (whether or not they use it to sing is up to them of course) such as Fran Drescher. It can be actually a very irritating speaking voice (case in point) but it's the same technique. It normally comes naturally to these people, so if they find their way to the stage, they've got it made. It can be taught, but only to a degree. If the larynx/resonating chambers (sinuses, hard palate, teeth, etc) are constructed just right, it just clicks and they naturally use it. As far as all the other stuff you asked, I can't really speak to that - I'm a voice coach, not a casting director lol

What an enormous talent. She has, as the French would say "That certain something ", and "A joy for life". Thank God there are still entertainers, or should I say artists, left like her. And Joel (the legend) Grey doesn't disappoint. He is like the finest aged wine that simply tastes magical. The entire cast is incredible. The Broadway musical remains an original American art form,and a gift to the world. Thank you Sutton and thank you Cole.
