In PRISON with His Son & Teaching His Children Shoplifting | Andrew Hager
Andrew Hager had the deck stacked against him even before he was born. His mother was only 15 years old, and his father died before he was born. His life, his parents’ lives, and even his childrens’ lives are impacted by addiction. After spending time in prison and seeing two of his four children serve time, as well, Andrew successfully completed a 12-step program, found faith in God, and committed his life to helping others on their own journey through recovery.

My mom gave birth to my older brother at 16, and me just after she turned 18. Dad died of OD in 2002, then mom about 15 years later. My brother and I were out there for a time, struggling with substance abuse. After a couple of decades with scattered pockets of active addiction, we overcame our respective struggles. He owns a wonderful seafood restaurant now, everything down to the tablecloth picked out by him. I relocated to another part of the country, upped my salary and began building something new there. Thanks for this interview. Ended up relating to this gentleman far more than I expected.
Ian I don't think u realize how many people you are helping while also making money. Bless you brother. Keep up the great work brother this one hit home.

As a recovering addict with over 9 yrs sober, this was my fav interview. This man speaks the truth, poetically. What an unbelievable story and what a gift God has given him to be able to openly share and help others.

That's awesome! Keep it going beautiful ❤
This was the best guest yet in my opinion he's real and the story really hit home for me!
Been struggling with my prayer like and spiritual life in general lately. This story really pushed me to pick myself up and read scripture and pray. Feel much better now
This podcast; it DEEP, real DEEP. Congratulations to this man and I’m so very sorry for his loss. That has to be so hard.
He had so much against him.. thankfully he found what he needed to turn his life around not only for himself but for his family! 👍
This was an amazing interview. I have never seen life from this prospective. Andrew's life was a mess as he was born. He struggled by his own choices but has made it!! He's a true man!! No one is above or below another human being. I don't care who thi ks they are, that stool they are standing on is going to get kicked out from under your feet. I truly enjoyed this conversation. Thank you Ian for your platform to share with us. I am so glad your father is there with you all the way!!

This is wild. I was in jail in the same cell with him for months. We were both in the 12 step program in the jail
Yeah, fantastic interview. He learned to take accountability, even with all the dirt he did, he dug himself out. Great story. Great message.

Ian, I found your channel through my son who shared an episode with me. Now, I really enjoy listening to your show regularly because you’ve taken this platform to primarily help others, not focusing on yourself nor your past stories; like so many of the other after prison shows do. I’d love to hear you interview your parents who I know are super proud of you for how you have changed you ways around since you took a hold of your life. The appreciation of life you have now, is astounding and guests you bring one which have been amazing, reflect that appreciation. But there is an even larger part to all that you are doing and that’s the vast amount of people you are reaching and affecting in such a positive way. Keep up the good work sir, God definitely has had this planned for you!
Ian Bick; You came at the right time, the prison genre was overplayed but I still enjoy your fresh content . Thank you sir
Mr. Andrew Hager is an OG, glad you were able to get him on.
Let go! I met Andrew and Teddy at the gas station before they stopped at Kenton County jail! What a great guy and inspiration!❤🙏
I’m not shy about saying I’ve been to thousands of NA meetings & been clean a long time. Much of what he’s saying comes from the NA literature, all the little inspirational words & phrases.. I have been blessed to know many people like him. The BEST people i know are recovering addicts. Former thieves, former fiends, former felons, “former” this or that - but now I’d trust them with my life. We do recover!! 🔹✊🏼
Hands down the best I mean the best guest EVER ! This guy is a message man I love it
Im sitting here at work. About to cry. This is the best interview yet.
I’m sure your kids are proud of you too Andrew ❤️

GREAT interview! Absolutely enjoyed it and gleaned from it. My son is also doing time for drugs. Has an anger problem too but working in himself. I have to remember my son’s past is exactly that… HIS past and not bring it up during frustration and heated arguments. Thank you for this interview! 🥰
Ian I also wanna commend you you providing an outlet for people like Andrew share their experience strength and hope your podcast is a new favorite of mine brother thank you man!

This is a beautiful story! I’ve been clean in na for over 12 years now. I knew from the way this dude talked he was a NA member. We got the best speakers. This guy is a true inspiration. Great interview Ian. Love and respect to both you guys.

What a crazy life. But an awesome person today. This was a good interview. As a recovering drug addict, one who has also used with my father at one point I could relate some. Great job to you, Ian. I just really wish this interview could’ve been more controlled in terms of timeline and what not. There was a lot of skipping around. Regardless, very interesting and something I think everyone should hear!!

I had no clue Andrew was so new in 2016. That's awesome!
Love this dude 💯
My first girlfriend was getting pimped by her own mother at 13 to the city dealers, the mom was the daughter of a foster home I was in, very simular life to what he's talking about, when the mom lost her son to fentanyl a few years ago, she lost it, she used to get him weed at 10 years old. "When chaos isn't chaos" I relate to that, but I broke the cycle, my son just turned 17 in college for engineering, living in dorms. I may not be sh!t, ruined my chances when I was younger, but I made sure my son never saw the chaos, I never hid my past, I made sure he knew he was special, loved, and can be anything he wants to be if he's honest, hard working.l and don't give up
Hey where at in Arkansas that's where I'm from. Love the show and glad to see all these men and women doing good now.

Definitely love this story. Love this dude. I’m in Louisville ky. I’ve seen him in meetings before. He’s got that true AA lingo and swag down 😂
You got the man on here....helll yeah
I'm sorry but I got no sympathy for that cop that *POKED HIMSELF* with a bloody rig. Addicts are not a reliable source when it comes to knowing what they have on them, especially when they've been up for days, are on drugs that effect their memory, etc. I'm not a cop but if I was, I'd be using those poke proof gloves any time I searched anybody, especially a KNOWN drug user that was likely clearly intoxicated. He said his clothes even had blood and cigarette burns on them, it doesn't take a genius to be able to put the pieces together and realize that you're dealing with an opioid user if that's your profession. What do opioid users tend to carry with them to consume opioids? Syringes! You can buy a pair of stick proof gloves for like 10 bucks so even if the department didn't provide them, it's not like they cost an arm and a leg. If he didn't take that precaution then that's on him if he gets an uncapped rig stuck in his hand...

Fuck that he should have been a man, and said yeah I've got a rig on me. I was no angel either, but once you're caught don't make it worse over something so stupid.
@Blunt_Man
11 ай бұрын
@@joshuagorman2191 You're not caught until you're in the county jail calling around to find a ride or just to notify people where you're at, til then don't give up anything! If I was him, I'm not doing their job for them and just handing over everything illegal because they've pulled me out my car to search everything, they're going to have to go over every square inch of me and my property then find it themselves. Cops miss things during searches all the time, if they just expect everybody to rat themselves out because they're searching them, they're fools! Have fun believing that they're all going to just make the job easy and hopefully the next person doesn't have HIV. Hopefully there just isn't a next time and that clown remembers that stick proof gloves are a thing so he actually uses them instead of just trusting his health and safety to some sleep deprived dope fiend that can hardly remember what year it is smh. I actually don't remember, did he say if he even KNEW he had a syringe on him or not? I know he said he'd been awake for 7 days, at that point I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't know he even had it. That's a large reason I don't care about the cop, he's dealing with lying, stealing druggies, currently under the influence, it's not like he was dealing with some upstanding member of society that would never lie to the police. I'll feel sorry for him when I start feeling sorry for people who have a kid they didn't want because they didn't use protection lol

Its amazing that someone who grew up so sheltered with 2 loving parent ended up in prision for some white collar shit is able to interview people who grew up ruff like my friends did. I am always amused that Ian is so shocked by how most of his guest grew up . I love your show Ian .
How this only got 11k view only is embarrassing Ian subs are buggin
it's guilty for being a junky - NO, correction. Guilty for what you did whilst being an insecure-approval-seeking individual / abused, misled, corrupted, traumatised minor / structureless, traumatised adult ...ie. the choices that flow from that depravity. And then he quotes scripture - true redemption is only achieved through Jesus (read up on it, He made the way)..so "who's/what's feeding my spirit?", Andrew brought it home. Let it be Jesus.
Not just to him but for every man that have kids, how do you just walk away from your child and have no involvement in your own kids life? Doesnt it bother you? You could be walking right pass your kid and not even know it or care? Do you ever think about them and why do you walk away knowing the affects it has on them and how it messes up their lives? Someone who is a father pleasssse answer this? Its ruining the culture.
This guy is a frigging trip !!!! Lmao
When will he be back?
Shww. He’s proof that 12 step programs work for some.
You can tell this guy shares a lot in AA meetings

personally i feel like the jesus stint is a bit cliche but it works for so many
At 33:57 ian says so you where a addict just trying to get his next fix? NO! HE WASNT IM JAIL AT THE TIME! he already told you he wasnt hustling this kid in jail to get drugs and he already told you he wasnt using drugs the entire time he was in jail. he was getin a lil money off him for commissary. Do you not listen to the words coming out of the dude in front of you! Smh
