In Japan one restaurant prides itself on its rudeness
Renowned for dependable hospitality and ritualized etiquette, Japan now has one restaurant where the service is dependably, defiantly atrocious. At the Lazy House in Nagoya, the dining experience is turned on its head, with a cranky and petulant staff dishing out insults while tossing dinner plates. Correspondent Lucy Craft checks out why the rude restaurant, launched last summer, has become an instant comic hit on social media.

So true by the end that it's hard to be rude in Japan where politeness has been deeply ingrained in their culture.

Japan tries normal US behaviour.
So they moved a restaurant from America to Japan 😅

meh, in NYC this is normal behavior and no one laughs. It's like a comedy restaurant and like so many things in Japan for show. There used to be a comedy club in Brooklyn called Crazy Country Club (CCC?) that was famous for this, their motto was "Warm Beer, Lousy Food" (it was all a routine, but we loved going there to be insulted LOL)
This is normal where I'm from. Fonding a polite restaurant is the challenge here.
1:21 It's me. Thank you for interviewing.
Be careful what you wish for.
This is so unnecessary😢 I can stay home if i want to be insulted 😭😂

In America we could do the opposite, have nice servers. ;) J/K you all do hard work!
meh. we don't need to travel half way across the pond for bad service diners. I just gotta walk down the stairs to my mother in law's kitchen!
Unique theme style restaurants is so big in Japan. I can see why this concept is successful since it's something unique for the customers. I do appreciate how after the service ends, they say goodbye normally and tell people it's an act.
Rudeness is a social construct. What Americans do every day is considered "rude" in most countries.

This restaurant service is unusual, but I love Japanese food and would eat here.
In their country rude behavior is so rare that they are willing to spend money to get it.
Dick's Last Resort in Las Vegas is like this. You'll need to have thick skin in order to enjoy it, but I've seen videos of people eating there and it's insane😂

Disney world has a place like this too, where the wait staff is like obnoxious family members.
There was only one restaurant I know of that was like that. It was called Roxy’s in Portland Oregon. And yes, it was popular then too. Unfortunately Portland has changed, and the restaurant changed hands, and then closed.
We have Dick's Last Resort here in Dallas,TX. Don't go if you're too sensitive.
Basically, it is a comedy club.
I can't even imagine being treated rudely is a strange, unique and wanted experience. Japan is bizarro America.
Dicks Last Resort has been doing this for decades
This would be difficult to pull off in the U.S. Super great service exists but it's not the norm. People will eat somewhere knowing ahead full well that the service is iffy but the food is bomb. Rudeness is too commonplace to be sold as a feature lol.

There’s a restaurant called Dick’s Last Resort that does exactly that. Dunno how the food is, never been there
They have an entire HOTEL in the UK devoted to rude service, lol.
Even though restaurants are meant to be perfect and pleasant I don’t think this would be approved.
Tom Waits would love this joint. "You know how hard it is to get a bad cup of coffee these days?"
It's refreshing for Japan😅 It's like Japanese Saturday Night Live!😂😂😂 Japanese Chef Ramsey!!!❤ 😂😂😂
Why do I get the feeling that some Maid Cafe in Akihabara is going to copy what this restaurant is doing?

They already had it like over 10 years ago, just look up tsundere cafe. So they were the first in fact.
Notice how many older people are at the restaurant? 😂🤣
Such a concept could ONLY work in a super polite society. There would be no refreshing novelty effect otherwise.
I get why people like it. It's one of the rare times people are being honest, without the Mystique of politeness that is Japanese Society.

_"It's one of the rare times people are being honest, without the Mystique of politeness that is Japanese Society"_ - I'm assuming you've never lived there. I did. Them being polite has nothing to do with dishonesty. Treating others with respect is simply a societal expectation (some might call it responsibility). There is nothing dishonest or disingenuous about being treated with respect because it's not about manipulation, it's about expressed values.
For terrible customer service stop by Dick’s Last Resort in Vegas. They’ve apparently been putting the FU into fun since 1985.
Okay.🙄🙁
Considering that they are one of the most polite society I've ever lived in, this must be quite the curio
Now do this in NYC - the reason it works there is Japan is a polite society. In America this would lead to gun violence in a matter of hours in this establishment.
A guy could make a lot of Canadian Tire money in Canada with that sort of thing, eh?
This happens in America all the time
All you have to do is visit a restaurant in the US if you want to experience rudeness.
NO SOUP FOR YOU !!!
Send the staff of the Wiener Circle. That video would go viral. 😅
I think they'll probably feel like they've been to a foreign country. It would be a good idea to do this as a rehearsal before they travel overseas. I'm exaggerating a bit, but the customer service that we Japanese people receive overseas, including discrimination, is almost at that level.
O wow!
This is normal in the US
I've been to a play similar called Dick's Last Resort in San Antonio. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
normal in Berlin. I end up overtipping for normal service because I don't feel like crying for having ordered. 😂
Prime Time 50's Cafe at WDW provides a similar dining experience.
Someone says: Karen's Diner Japanese version.
Japanese Don Rickles
Thank you for sharing. Too cute!!😊😊
at the end of the day if you got a good idea or rather in this case a rude one stick with it :P

WHEN OUR MINDSET CHANGES,ALMOST EVERYTHING AROUND US CAN BE READY TO COMBINE TOGETHER THEN IT CAN BECOME POWERFUL. 当我们的心态改变时,我们周围的几乎所有事物都可以准备好结合在一起,然后变得强大。 RULES ARE ACTUALLY GIVING US A TEST TO IMPROVE OURSELVES HOW BEST WE CAN BE IN LIFE. 规则实际上是在考验我们,让我们在生活中如何做到最好。

Maybe because it's not true? No one prefers to be mistreated. But in Japan politeness is more important than kindness anyways. I can see why they would want a brief reprieve. But as demonstrated at the end of the video, they know it's an act.

This is why people become crazy. This is not funny. This teach people " Hey, it's ok to be rude and unkind ". And those young girls & young boys who keep coming back for more ( they're not normal ) . It showed they are allowed to be abused. That is wrong. Please do not teach or show this to children. You will do harm than funny. Shame on them. Call them out.
not original. Popeye's exist
