Last year LNP gave $11 BILLION to massively profiting fossil fuel companies (like Clive Palmer and Gina Rhinehart) in special taxpayer funded fossil fuel subsidies per year. $11 billion is OVER HALF of total annual cost to fund Medicare). Then the same companies have paid pretty much no tax for past 7years, well less then 1% of profit!!

So just within 5 mins mark: 1:28 Scomo said: our economy is one of the strongest in the advanced world. Then 4:48: it's a tough economy when you are trying to get out there and buy a house. If we interpret "strong" and "tough" to mean the same, the first statement can then be derived as Australia's economy today is one of the toughest in the advanced world when you are trying to buy a house. I doubt an average Aussie people would compliment on that kind of economy. So either that, or when he wants to take credit, the economy is one of the strongest. But when he does not want to get the blame for the blown out housing prices, the economy all of sudden becomes tough. Ho ho ho, aren't you an ingenious one?

I actually agree, but NBN has already started to add fibre to the premise. Also it wasn't "back to copper", as if they removed fibre and added copper, that's wrong. It was fibre to node instead of fibre to the premises, which means that fibre cabling would only be from premises to a node, from the node onwards it was the old copper system. It lowered costs, under the assumption that it would still be fine, but it back-fired and caused slow nbn speeds because copper can't carry as much bandwidth or travel as fast, resulting in lower internet speeds (low bandwidth) and higher latency. Hardly something that would turn an election though, might need to think of something better.

@Fact Menace “ Chauffeuring” to a club hotel or golf course?? Wtf?? Never heard that one, taking them to doctors, psychologist, physio, OT, private specialists etc. My Aunt has 1-3 appointments a day. They help her shower, dress and change her incontinence pads and colostomy bags multiple times a day. My Aunt’s carers work week days and never weekends or public holidays at her request but find higher ups quite pushy towards her regarding it. Every person on NDIS gets a extremely set budget, so if a carer works weekends and public holidays, you get less carer hours, the carers and up win, participants don’t. You are blaming the wrong people. LNP spent $33 million on lawyers and $22 million consults on AAT lawyer/consultants ALONE. LNP been forcing more expensive options on disabled people too like only going to a pool class with a physio (add physio fee $135 plus physio adds travel costs) instead of a $150 annual pass with weekly hydrotherapy classes. Also in every service catergory, where someone off the street might pay $80 for say a physio appointment, same appointment length is charged $135 to NDIS- There is where you make first MASSIVE saving from every participants, every single appointment over the year. I’m talking billions!! Whatever you charge everyone else, you should charge same to NDIS participants or that is rorting the system (legally under LNP fee guidance). This isn’t welfare, this is investment that came out of the productivity commission to help disabled people lead a more productive life in society and for themselves. The NDIS is EXTREMELY difficult to qualify for. EXTREMELY difficult to be decently funded for. Disabled people never asked to be disabled, please remember to bring your humanity to a conversation about disabled people. I don’t feel that fossil fuel companies deserve $11 billion in special taxpayer funded fossil fuel subsidies per year (half of total annual cost to fund Medicare), then to pay no tax for past 7years. But disabled people deserve a protected NDIS. Not the rusty tin sign, swinging off one chain, LNP is heading towards. Taking speech therapy and social therapies away from children, removing and last scraps of peoples basic happiness and improved mental health in the hope they will die and be better for the “budget bottom line”.

Holding all politicians accountable is important Gladys recieved glowing reviews until being called by an independent corruption agency where media talked about how everyone loved/missed her (betrayed by her lover) and if an anti corruption area is a good thing. Even if for some reason people think she's innocent (which legally she is atm) she couldn't even hold a daily press release for over a month whilst Dan Andrews did for a year. Getting called a sell-out to China or Dictator Dan by politicians who have done actual "white collar" crimes (Matthew Guy overriding council zoning regulations as his brother held land that benefited from his move, holding a flag for each life lost in aged care pretending it wasn't a federal duty). Scomo also being ignored with his lack of any leadership around RAT tests, Aged Care or any policy decision around covid up until now from all channels. I know I've ranted but just because one channel talks about "men are bad blah blah blah" and the other goes "look at all these softcocks" it doesn't mean they don't support the same government who hosts parties for them, has been in power 70% of the time since federation and has somehow achieved less for the general public than Labor in that entire span.

Since the LNP took government, the debt doubled before covid and has now tripled and is projected to hit 1 Trillion dollars within the next few years. The debt had increased massively across the last 7 years before covid, but what had the LNP actually invested that money in for long term sustainable economic growth?. Jobseeker/Jobkeeper further increased the debt, but remember during the GFC the LNP said that stimulus was a waste of money and screamed bloody murder but apparently when they're in power it's just good economic policy! Most major LNP economic policies go against expert economists, they aren't efficient and don't actually improve the quality of life for the average citizen. They're very short term and do not resolve many of the major issues we're facing. LNP values and policy put more money in the pockets of the wealthy than in the worker... lower taxes don't always mean a better quality of life, because things like wage growth and public goods and services can provide much more value.

With more recent governments focused on cutting taxes and slashing spending, economic growth has suffered, and, since 2013, gradually wound down to a standstill, but the rich have done very well. You are right where you mention 'merging tax brackets'. The Liberals abolished the 37c marginal tax bracket, so that 94% of taxpayers have 30c as their to marginal tax rate. This is effectively a flat rate of tax for all of these people, a disgraceful abuse of government power which treats people whose incomes fall just above the bottom threshold of this bracket very shabbily, and gives everyone else in this bracket a tax break on a sliding scale in direct proportion to their income. What they really does is to use Australian's money to serve the interest of US defence contractors: Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman Corp and setup a career path for their own. In regards to the cashless welfare card policy. In democratic countries like our own, people have always had the right to spend their money however they should like. This card would make that right into a luxury. This policy seeks to treat people on social security like children, claiming they can't be responsible for their own well being. It's not very encouraging for those who are on welfare for genuine reasons, people who've had the roughest lives of all, been dealt the worst hands and that struggle to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones. Instead it treats them like second class citizens, having a negative effect on confidence, mental health and well-being; not a great situation for finding employment. The way I see it is that cigarettes and alcohol are the main items that misused welfare money goes towards, which are extremely heavily taxed already, so most of the money replaces itself. The interesting thing about this card is that a person can only spend money at specific stores, decided by the government. This is an obvious conflict of interest, given the current level of corruption in office, especially considering the power over the economy and industries of this country that corporations like woolworths control. Unemployment in the future will skyrocket, due to automation becoming a more economically viable option for businesses; especially small ones. Many people will simply be replaced by a machine that doesn't need to be paid. Would you like to only be able to spend money through this card? This policy is totally undemocratic, going against a great many fundamental Australian values, especially freedom of the individual and the idea of a fair go for all. I know our political system seems hopeless, but please don't give up on democracy.

To begin with, I think that the moderator favoured the PM where time was concerned, and he also cut off Mr Albanese just as he was making some worthwhile points, yet allowed Mr Morrison to waffle on without answering the actual question. I noticed that the Opposition leader wasn't as comfortable as the PM in the discussion as I thought that he was quite shy. However this doesn't mean that he would make a poorer PM. I could certainly see his point about the PM not finding common ground in order to find the best solution for our country. I could also see from his behaviour, that Mr Morrison could easily be a bully. I wasn't sure about who I'd vote for this election, but I've certainly made up my mind now! The current government hasn't done much to improve the lives of Australians that weren't already put in place by the Labor government before them. This was something that I'd forgotten. I know that I certainly don't want my country's leader as condescending as this one is. He didn't answer the questions as he was obviously not listening to them, but was doing his best to think up answers to put himself in a good light. I want someone who isn't out there to score points. I don't want to constantly hear about the PM'S family, about buying their first home for $67,000. Not interested in hearing how well this dept, or those workers were when times were tough because he wants to appear to be empathetic. We all know who worked hard, and who didn't, during the bushfires, COVID and the recent floods. This PM constantly using the excuses that these were unprecedented should not mean unprepared. We've known for years that the climate changes are here, or did the PM have his back turned when the subject was being discussed in parliament? The PM was constantly saying (boasting) about the millions of dollars spent on this or that, then how important economic management was. We didn't need to hear this because we all do it when we've go to the shops ... even to buy a litre of milk! He didn't mention the wasted billions when all of a sudden out government broke the agreement with France for the submarines we'd agreed to buy from them. That did enormous damage to Australia's reputation, especially amongst the EU countries, and I don't blame them! The cost of these new submarines obviously wasn't discussed properly before placing the order for the new ones from the USA because had this been the case, they would have known that it was going to cost Australians five billion dollars just to break the agreement with France. This coming from the economically responsible government! Anyone involved in buying new technology is well aware that the moment you purchase a new computer, etc that it's already superseded. The government should have foreseen this when they originally placed the order for those submarines in 2015. They should also be aware that the 'new' submarines will also be outdated at least by the time the agreement is finalised and signed, or will the government also cancel this agreement because there will also be a newer model available that they didn't know about when agreeing to these? They haven't even told us how much or how many of these submarines they have ordered, or when they are expected to arrive. After all, Australia's signature on government orders isn't worth the paper it's printed on if our agreement with the French is anything to go by, so why even commit themselves to informing us of those basic details! Perhaps the change of mind had something to do with the newly formed AUKUS and it would look good to the USA? It seems to me that our current PM is only too happy to cosy up to the Americans like a child whose finally been noticed and invited to the birthday party by the most popular boy in school. He feels the need to take the best present to the party! Now onto the staffing failures in the nursing homes across the country. Why hasn't this government asked themselves why there are plenty of nursing staff for our hospital, but less than the bare minimum in aged care homes, or in the community aged care organisations? Why hasn't this government been asking the question about what's causing the difference between staff in hospitals and those in aged care. It's quite simple. It's because those jobs in aged care have to work much harder because the job itself is much harder work, both physically and mentally, but they are not paid higher rates of pay! I hear this from so many people who used to work in nursing homes, in aged care community jobs, as well as disability care services. The work is harder in each of these sectors, and as such, the staff should be paid accordingly! I think it's a absolute disgrace to hear that there are so many aged care homes that there isn't even the very basic requirement of at least one nurse 24/7! One fully qualified nurse should be the absolute minimum for aged care homes. Don't tell me that if they all had one nurse 24/7 that so many homes would have to close, because if it is the case that many of them don't even have one nurse at the very minimum, then they deserve to be closed down! Surely the PM wouldn't have considered it satisfactory if his father was in a nursing home without a fully qualified nurse in charge at the very minimum of one! Is this the reason why staff only stay for weeks, or usually at a maximum of months? The pay is is so unreasonable for the hard work that's required, and even for those with only the basic 6 weeks at Tafe leave because the patient to staff ratio is so lacking that they burn out. There are also staff who barely speak English, but they remain because of the language barriers for other jobs. This would be additionally difficult for those staff, and would be a reason for harsh treatment of residents when caring for them because they are also required to do so much work in a very short period of time. This is also one of the reasons why there are so many complaints by the families of residents regarding physical or verbal abuse, meals not being served, or even meals being fed to residents who require extra care. There are also many complaints about residents not being toileted, or changed when required, and even being left in soiled bedding. There are certainly a lot more nurses in hospitals! This surely has been noted by these Ministers responsible for all areas of aged care, including the shortage of qualified staff. They shouldn't have had to wait for the results of a Royal Commission to know of most of the staffing failures, and to rectify the most obvious at least. Yes, there certainly need to be a lot more training places available for the growth of people coming into aged care homes, particularly as the baby boomers are beginning to require more assistance. If there aren't even the extreme minimum number of qualified nursing staff in aged care homes now, what will it be like in less than 5 years time? Where is the planning for these increased numbers by this government? Not all baby boomers have family who can care for them at home, so in what type of conditions will they be expected to live? Why was it even necessary to have a commission into aged care? They could have reached the same conclusion about how dire the situation just by listening to the staff. They have been demonstrating for help and higher rates of pay for yeard, which is what we've seen so often thanks to so many of the regular investigations by the media showing how serious the situation has been, for at least the last 10 years minimum! This situation hasn't just happened overnight. It's been going on for years, and getting increasingly worse. Perhaps the government has been hoping that euthanasia will fix the problem for them! I can say that if I was placed in an aged care facility without decent nursing assistance 24/7, I'd certainly be taking that course of action! Problem solved!

  • @captain-chair

I have ADHD and was first diagnosed around a year or so before the NDIS, I never saw any benefits personally because support for ADHD wasn’t considered important enough, my high school didn’t even offer any support for ADHD but it offered support for Autism which if you know about these things, ADHD and Autism both impact education greatly. I fell through the cracks and I am only just pocking up the pieces now, if there was reforms made in my high school years such as an expansion to the NDIS maybe my education outcomes could have been better, and yes my grades were terrible, despite every teacher I have ever had described me as smart, and all because I didn’t get the support I needed for my disability, when I had aspersions for possibly even university, and unfortunately that ship has sailed, because I was left behind. That’s life I suppose but that just isn’t good enough, the only reason I have been able to pick up the pieces wasn’t anything to do with any government, it was my vigorous research of what living with ADHD actually means, which greatly improved my self-esteem, and my mental health, I still have a long way to go, and I will tell you that a decade of liberal government didn’t do diddly squat for me, if anything it actively ignored my existence and is part of a socially conservative disposition that actively discriminates against neurologically disabled Australians by considering them morally deficient for their inability to meet conservative standards. I am tired of having an uncaring government.
