Dagan checks out a guitar for players who DEMAND MORE from their Les Paul, the mighty Gibson Les Paul Modern, seen here in its stunning Seafoam Green finish. Gibson have tried to modernise the Les Paul a number of times over the years, but nothing has really stuck! From Robot Tuners to wide fat necks and titanium nuts - but this.... THIS is something special! Gibson have nailed the recipe this time round and have created the ultimate 'Modern' Les Paul!

The new Gibson Les Paul Modern Figured incorporates many contemporary updates players have embraced, such as a lighter-weight mahogany body with a figured AAA maple top and a comfortable, fast-playing SlimTaper neck profile. The Modern fingerboard is crafted with genuine ebony and has a compound radius for lower and cleaner action.
The neck/body joint features the Modern Contoured Heel for effortless access to the highest frets and maximum sustain and stability. Hardware upgrades include Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, clear Top Hat knobs, and Burstbucker Pro and Burstbucker Pro + pickups.
The control assembly features four push-pull pots to switch between Gibson humbucker and single coil P-90 sounds, both of which have defined so many genres of music across multiple generations since we invented them, along with phase switching and pure bypass for additional sonic variety.
The new Gibson Les Paul Modern Figured is here to shape sound for future generations!

Fantastic guitar! I bought the exact one Trogly reviewed and documented on his show about 6 weeks ago. The seafoam green example. Couldn't be happier. I also have a LP Classic and a LP Slash NB - and the Modern Figured Seafoam is a great addition!

I have the Epiphone Les Paul Modern. It's an awesome guitar. Fantastic sound, the coil splits sound way better than my PRS's splits. The cutaway on the back is so much easier to play on than a traditional heel, and stock locking tuners. The guitar is just a joy to play. Has been worth every cent I paid and more.

Great demo and run through on this model! I played one at length in my local shop and really liked it. In particular, I love the modern weight relief, ebony fretboard, figured top + sea foam green colour, compound radius, upper fret access heel, the natural mahogany neck & back vs. the painted ones on the Blue and Red versions. I have no use for the lame sounding (IMO) "out of phase" switch. The "P-90" sound in both bridge and neck is very dark sounding, not bright at all. Gibson achieves it through the use of additional caps in the circuit, which may explain why it sounds so non-P-90 'ish. There are no actual split coils on this guitar.

out of the new finishes for the Modern, that sea foam green is absolutely the best one imo, and then probably the Blueberry burst on the 50's n 60's. tho for some reason the heel is still not flush with the scoop at the neck... i dont really get that.. especially considering the price of these, you would expect it to be flush

Gibson needs to make a version Les Paul with EMGs and a Floyd Rose option. So if Gibson hollows out the Les Paul body does it still sound the same? Or is the thick Maple top what gives the Les Paul it's deep sound?

@DaganWilkin I love your content and your enthusiasm. I can see that you enjoy every second of making music, that's awesome!!! By the way, I have a request for a new "How to get the sound of...."-video. Can you please do that for Brad Gillis (Night Ranger)? I know he is not the kind of guitar shredder everyone talks about. But he absolutely deserves being mentioned, when it comes to great 80s-style-guitarplaying. I'm looking for his guitar tone on a budget, but don't know where to start. I just can't afford a used Mesa-Boogie MKIIB or MKIIC+ and a hot rodded original Fender '62 HSS Strat. Can you please help me out?

My Gibson was the BEST guitar I ever bought!!.....it's the Last time I believe comments section ever again(who clearly have No experience in the first place!)..... My LP was dialed perfect, no problems, had it 4 years, still perfect......Heavy as shit! But it's still my favorite guitar in my collection. And this is coming from a heavy metal guy who generally plays shredder guitars.

It's obvious that you haven't weight the guitar, because the weight isn't far different from a les paul standard 60s

  • @vaportrails7943

I got one last year, and overall, it is really good. The compound radius neck with ebony fretboard and carved heel make it better for playing fast. “Shred” if you’re not allergic to that. The asymmetrical neck is subtle, but still pretty cool. Overall, the neck feels slightly thinner than a Standard, and much more playable up high. It comes with locking tuners, which is a must. The one thing that baffles me is the pickups. The Burstbucker Pros are low output, which doesn’t fit with “modern”. I ended up replacing the bridge pickup with a 498T, and now it kills. After doing a precise setup, it’s amazing. So be aware that if you’re a metal player, you’ll probably want to change the pickups. At least the bridge. But then it gives you B.B. King, and it gives you the newest high gain shred. The split coil/out of phase stuff is pretty wild, and starts sounding like a Strat, which is really weird for a Les Paul, but cool to have. It does everything. Summary: Nearly perfect, but needs different pickups, and would be nice if it had Floyd Rose option, and more colors to choose from. I got Graphite, which they don’t seem to be making right now, so I’m glad I got it when I did.

I actually bought the Gibson version after owning the Epiphone version. Playing them for a while now, even though the Epi is really great, in my opinion the Gibson is miles better in every way. Definitely worth its price. I’ve played Les Pauls for 30 years and the new Gibson Modern is my second favorite behind the Supreme line.

Weight relief is a definitely NO for my taste. Yeah it is lighter, but takes a lot of tone away. Why would I want to take a tone away? And if they take wood away they must compensate it by using heavy wood, which has not the best quality. Heavy wood les paul with no weight relief has not been the best choice.

Yeah i know what you mean...i mean due to its hollow bodied construction the Gibson ES 335 and the epiphone Casino are famous for having no tone ...made even worse due to their their plywood construction .. Its also a well known fact that Brian May of Queen has one of the worst tones ever because his Red Special has chambers .. I quote "The body was made from blockboard (strips of softwood sandwiched between two plywood skins) with oak inserts in the top and bottom layers sourced from an old table. It was covered with mahogany marquetry veneer on the top, bottom and side to give it the appearance of a solid-body guitar."....Brian may has one of the worst tones in Rock ... Then there's Eddie Van Halen who unlike you @8Three Ace ...who no doubt will only settle for the very best finests SOLID mahogany from Gibson's custom shop... used a cheapo basswood "boogie" body from the 2nds bin when throwing together the "Frankenstrat" ...and thats why his tone on the 1st 2 van Halen albums are famous for having no quality in the tone ...LOL..pre conceptions and my mean hearted sarcasm aside .this guitar sounds great

Dagan you are awesome but you really need to spend some more time on clean tones and edge of breakup and not full blown distortion as it gets old so to say.. I know you alive the 80s & I lived through them but I also lived through the 70s and those are the best! But there was Clean Tones! You’re awesome and why I watch all of these but notice you just don’t do clean tones a lot or for long. Other than that the colors are awful and hope they add some vintage or classic colors cause all these just look awful to me. I will stick with my 60s standard 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻 Keep rocking
