I was legit considering buying this the other day specifically cause of how it’s procedural grain works. Great review!

Great video and one more advantage of grain is that it’s not just another overlay like all other option out there it’s embedded to the image . For more information check their site

The grain tool technically still overlays the grain onto the footage, but I appreciate the analysis built into the plugin

@@BarrettKaufman don’t want to emphasis on anything but the article on Dehancer grain says otherwise . The start is Grain isn’t just overlaid on the image. Image consists of grain. One of the key points (but not the only one) that follows from this is that image detail depends on grain size, and usually visible details do not exceed grain size.

Have you used Filmbox? I'd love to see a comparison between that and Dehancer.

Thanks, I really liked your review of Dehancer. I'm curious about your video camera though, it seems far from 4k resolution. Did you upscale from 1080P?

Thanks! Yeah, it's an older DSLR that only shoots 1080 but I upres to 4K since KZread doesn't compress 4K streams as much. Thanks for the feedback

I have asked one question in your new way to grade video , hope you will reply to it Here is the question if it’s hard to find Great video . One doubt though, in your cst, you have kept your gamma both input and output to use timeline so what’s was your timeline settings set to in project settings ? And why apply forward ootf was unchecked? By default if we go from scene to display space it’s on but you have kept unchecked it or because of mentioning use timeline in output and input gamma it didn’t check. Do you ou prefer that way ? Was going through video a lot and appreciate the new way of thinking of grading .

The point of that video is to help people gain a mindset that the "look" of a film not individual shots, but rather as adjustments that span the whole film. For 95%+ of my work this year it's all been fully node based color management. And I'll build the look using similar principles as that video within it. Here's a recent video on color management if it helps clarify: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lIpmpLNufZCqhdo.htmlsi=_8lLmfSyPReeFgVB

@@BarrettKaufman sorry I think you didn’t got my point. my question was in your timeline cst your input and output gamma was use timeline in that context I was thinking what was your timeline gamma . When I was trying I was getting good result but I was using appropriate gamma towards to it just wanna know what was the gamma on that specific video . And why ootf off I well aware if color management node based and project based just video that one was very informative just had doubts on that specific video 😊 And link you have send i will look into but question is regarding that video because it is a great video

Years ago I experimented around with a much older version of the tools. But they've added a lot since then and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to test things out again!

i just wanted to say thank you. With everyone raving about this being the best plugin for color grading since sliced bread, It felt so different and very very refreshing to hear your tampered apporcah to the tool and very articulate uses cases that help make the benefits of the plug in real and not some magic that give better grades. ive been meaing to buy the tool for a while now but after watching your breakdown analayis i fully understand that i don't quite need it yet and resolves tools are just as professional and as powerful despite how pople on youtube might make you feel about them. It was a great and very thoughtful video as always. Thank you@@BarrettKaufman

@@mfjae Yes I agree. The only plug in I really want is the grain, but Since I own Scatter plugin for diffusion modeled on optical filters, I feel I can get the other aspects I need. Plus I like to have each part of the effect on a separate node. I'll download the trial version since maybe KZread is killing how nice dehancer really is. Scatter is even more expensive but definitely worth it. It really helped with the look of 2 of my festival films.
