We are delighted to introduce you to the Mariinsky soloist Victor Caixeta, in the second episode of our series. Victor talked to us about Brazil, his beautiful homeland, and his way to the Mariinsky. He remembers rehearsals under the legendary Mariinsky coach and repetiteur Gennady Selyutsky, speaks about his expanding repertoire and love for Petersburg.

That’s a perfect answer to Misty Copeland’s accusation of Russian ballet companies of being racists. The fact that Mariinsky gave a chance to Victor and May Nagahisa proves that Russian ballet is open for talented and hard-working people of all races

There are also 4 brazilian dancers at the Bolshoi. One of them David Motta Soares is actually a First Soloist there and Bruna Gaglianone thought not a soloist is a very high demand dancer and have done many soloist roles. I also know of at least 10 other brazilian dancers that are hired by russian companies, many in high ranking positions like Amanda Gomes.
