The Queen often said she was head of the monarchy but he was head of the family. How dare that Malarky woman and that ostentatious McCarthy woman make fun of them. How DARE she make fun of Philip's pet name for her She was either Lilibet or cabbage. I hope the rest of the Woke hollyweird bunch wake up to this d-list failed actress, or are they dazzled by the fake duchess title? As our aussie cousins say "pass the chuck bucket."

I wish I had known of it earlier, but I can at least play your video archives and I am doing that today as I do online work. A lovely, personal tribute to Prince Phillp. When the Queen and Prince Phillp came to Alberta in 2005, I got to see them from very close inside their hotel lobby, which was quite grand that day. I am so happy to have made it that close to them and will remember it forever.

@@soulpowerful Angela, Hello!! Yes indeed, the Hotel Macdonald. We in fact got to the lobby a couple of hours ahead of the Royal couples' arrival from Commonwealth Stadium, and inside the lobby, the staff gave everyone a little Union Jack flag to wave around upon their arrival. When they did arrive, they were so close to everyone inside the lobby. It was such a great decision to see them there. And, on another note, we travelled to Calgary all night, to see Prince William and Catherine at the Calgary Stampede Parade in July of 2011. Most memorable moments in a lifetime!

haha, I remember that time when he had a choice word for that photographer. For me personally, he was one of the greatest men to ever live. I thought I knew a lot about him but I'm staggered at how dedicated, forward thinking, intelligent & caring he was. He's my idol now. Thank you Grant, you put into words what a lot of us thought of his passing & he was old school which I wish we had more of. Still so sad about his passing, I will really miss him, he's always been there.

Thank you for your recollections of Prince Phillip. I appreciated your respect and affection for the Queen and Prince and how you make the story so interesting without giving away their privacy. I'm also touched by the way the British people love and respect their royals. I remember when Diana died and the people were getting pretty upset with the Queen for not speaking on it, and how quickly they forgave and fell back in love with her once she did. She was so gracious and humble in her speech. In America we are dealing with so much turmoil right now and I can't help but think how nice it would be if we had a Royal Family to look up to and bring us together. Thanks again for your story, It feels like when my father would tell me stories of his life.

I remember taking my pen-friend from the USA to Smiths Lawn. The Duke was playing polo. When the game was over she walked to her car and drove out of the gates and past us at the wire fencing and waved! We could have reached out and touched the car. Wonderful memory! 1965! For 80% of people's lives, the Royal Subjects of our Country have only known Her Majesty the Queen, along with her husband His Royal Hagness The Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh. Never in my life or any other person's life thought we would be one Major Player down with the passing of Prince Phillip. In my life I have seen the workings of the Constitutional Monarchy of The United Kingdom and other Countries and Commonwealth. Monarchy as we have known it of the last few decades, has been the softly softy approach with the Queen, then Prince Phillip has been asked for help as her Majesty has said no. With a smile he goes off to sort the issues with the other side, yes, they manage to get that photograph, how has he done that? Both have had particularly good relationships with Government, the House of Lords, the House of Parlaiment. Prince Phillips passing has given us something to listen to in his funeral, which will be played for decades to come. We all must die, the prince along with his family, have shaped our Country in many ways allowing us to have lived in a steady democracy. Thank you, Grant,

I love the way you speak so sincerely and respectfully but I’m sorry that there is background music, as it would be so much more moving without the intrusion of this. Maybe you can take it out for any new broadcasts? Thank you.

I know you would never say anything derogatory but I think Prince Philip would have been furious with what Harry has been saying. He did support Harry leaving but not the way he left the Royal Family. Harry doesn’t seem to be the same since he married and I cannot believe someone could change that much. the way he keep talking he’s getting his self more into hot water. He could have come over to visit his grandfather before he died. I loved the Duke of Edinburgh. Great sense of humour and I think he knew how people viewed him and probably played on it as well. I’m sure it’s left a big hole in the Queen’s life. Prince Philip was a great man. He had a bad start in life but through sheer strength of will he survived and that was before he met the Queen. He will be very sadly missed. Pity his grandson didn’t take a leaf out of his book.

He just was such a fascinating person with such a will to survive, and he really came out on top. He knew humility in his life and he lived that way. In a sense orphaned and left to relatives to provide a life for him, he did not disappoint them and took his opportunities and made something of himself. I don't think he expected to become the Queen's consort! But he was dashing and handsome and knew not to take things for granted from a young age. I wish his children had more of the deprivation and need for sense and survival that he experienced in his life. I love all of the Royal Family, but Prince Philip must at some point said to his children, don't be so entitled, you can be deposed, as happened to his family. Some of them were not listening! I am editing to say I would never want this to happen, but it frightens me with what is going on currently. It would be a horrible day in the history of the world, at least for me. God save your gracious and noble Queen.

Prince Philip's life of service should remind everyone of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia, have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a stable constitutional monarchy that is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace. Prince Philip could be tactless, and he had his failings as a father. Whatever mistakes he and his family have made, let us be grateful for the service he gave, and the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in everybody's lives.
