Hello Dr Carr and Prof Hunter. Today is a day of reflection, rest, and relaxation. 15days after our holiday…Juneteenth ❤🖤💚, in which I’m still celebrating.

Excellent information and conversation! Thank you both for this invigorating discussion, Drs. Hunter and Carr. Tarry on it! My God, yes. Black lay people understanding of the law, Frederick Douglass, Philadelphia celebrations, Mt. Rushmore, Stone Mountain, Biafran war, Baruch, Standing Bear, and Crazy Horse, phew. All in just over a half hour. What a robust discussion and so many breadcrumbs from this conversation--book recommendations and beautiful rabbit holes to dive down. Thank you both! I wrote about how we celebrate July 4th around family, but usually, it is an acknowledgment of family and our connectedness. Juneteenth is the Black freedom celebration, but we see July 4th through the lens of the Lion of Anacostia, the Honorable Frederick Douglass. I'm a native South Carolinian, and I recently wrote a reflection about Frederick Douglass's "What is the Fourth of July to the Slave" and my personal memory of how my German-American high school teacher assigned a majority-Black class an assignment to present "our" family crests after reading Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. I almost got suspended because I told that lady that just because I carried the name didn't make those people my family. Giving thanks to my ancestors because if my great-great aunt hadn't told the family story written down in our family reunion book and passed that down to us, I wouldn't have been able to stand on Willis and Susie Green, the first free generation in my family, and acknowledged their parents. I didn't get suspended, but I had to do two projects--on my family and that silly European crest that she made us present. I could stand up for myself because my ancestors did before me. Even when we don't have agency, we have dignity. Thank you both for this conversation's dignity, history, and a wonderful perspective! ❤✊🏾🙏🏾 Àse

The Counter Revolution of 1776 is true! The colonist (slave holders) were afraid the Brittish were going to abolish slavery.

Thank you for opening my eyes again with this information. I always knew that white people saw the world differently. From a young age they're taught that the world and the heavens are theirs and the black kids the opposite. So of course there are going to be female and male Karens. Not making an excuse for their ignorance, but if they taught that our people owned redheads every time one bothered me Id treat them different. And that's the reason I believe that schools should teach history differently and the black community needs to better educate our own because that's the only way to have a paradigm shift to their multiple complexes.
