That's how her comedy has always been. If you watch any of her standup specials they are hilarious, but also always have some sort of serious and often emotional points to them. It's really quite impressive how she can balance both so well and no matter how off topic she seems to get it all serves a greater narrative purpose in the end.

1. to live your life with integrity 2. not to give in to peer pressure to be something that you're not 3. to live your life as an honest and compassionate person 4. to contribute in someway 5. follow your passion 6. never follow someone else path 7. be true to yourself 8. show people your brain 9. you're gonna be okay

The speech includes so many stylistic devices, but I couldn't pay attention to them, because it was just too inspirational and sad but also unbelievably funny and... best speech I ever heard.

Dear Ellen, Thank you. Thank You just for being on this planet. You perhaps don't know your impact on me as well as the lives of millions of children out there. You are the most important, inspiring person in my life. There comes a point in everyone's life when they feel that all is lost, that this is the end and that they cannot do anything to change that. My friend had a similar experience. She drove up on the scene of her son who had just gotten killed in a motorcycle wreck. She had 2 of her younger children in the car with her, so she tried with all she had to act normal. She called the state troopers and helped them identify her son while she was stuck in traffic. This beautiful soul has 7 other children and is an egg donor to 4 more who she has a relationship with. She is trying so hard to move forward, but that image of him in the median haunts her. She like you is a huge inspiration to others.
