As someone who use to sell diamonds and engagement rings in college, most people can’t tell the difference. I suggest looking at sizes in increments of .25. For example, if you want 1ct consider .75 to 1. Quality is another big factor, such as dark sports, cracks, stains, etc. The rock can be 1ct but if the quality is shitty, it will look shitty no matter what. Lastly, cut is important too. If you want a sparkly diamond but can’t afford the best quality go with radiant. Maximum sparkle and hides flaws. Asher and emerald cuts require good quality for maximum sparkle or else it will look dirty and dull.

@@PVPVPVPVPV689 You brought in grammar so I’m here to correct every mistake you made while grammar-correcting someone else. 1. While you are correct in basic concept if I squint, a + a word which begins with a vowel = an, I can’t find an example of this where a has not been replaced with an in the original text :) 2. “an”, not “as”. An is what you use when the word after a starts with a vowel e.g. “an orange. As is what you use to introduce a metaphor, a comparison, an alternative for because or something occurring while another thing is also occurring. E.g Param corrected their grammar as they thought they saw a mistake in the original poster’s text. “As” has many uses but it is *not* an article. 3. “Ends in and vowel” should be “in a vowel” - because and is not the correct word here and vowel doesn’t start with a vowel so an is not the correct word either. 4. It should also not be “ends in a vowel”, because the letter the word after a ends with doesn’t matter, only the letter it begins with. I hope this is a sufficient demonstration that before you start correcting others, you should relearn basic English. 😂

Diamonds are actually not expensive or rare at all, they just price them up because of the emotional value we put on the engagement ring.
@tealeafs3824
Жыл бұрын
Umm...no. Diamonds are expensive because it takes skill to cut them in a certain way. Not all diamonds are cut the same. Plus, is about purity too, the clear the diamond is, more expensive it is. So we have purity+cut+the metal used for the ring band(gold/platinum)+the uniqueness of the jewellery +brand. The brand may add up more than a third to the price, for example Cartier, which is one of the most prestigious houses out there. So a diamond rings price has nothing to do with anything emotional, and once you try to resell it, its value drops considerably.

The only way to know the exact carat is if it has a certification card and not all diamonds have cert cards. Also, unless you change the quality of diamond (color and clarity especially) as well, it's highly unlikely you'll save 30% going from 1.00 to 0.95 or even 0.90.

Just be wary of a sub-1 carat weight Diamond with a ‘1 carat spread’ which means it’s as wide as a 1 carat would be if it was cut perfectly. The wider shape means it’s not as deep and the light won’t reflect properly inside the stone = less fire or brilliance

I’m a diamontologist and 0.95 is legally and technically considered 1ct. There is absolutely not a 20-30% discount for buying a diamond of the same quality that is .05-.1 smaller than an exact 1ct. It’s irregular to even have a diamond cut and polished to exactly 1.00ct.

Actual GIA educated gemologist of 13 years here… a diamond weighing .995 can be sold as a carat, but a .95 is NOT a one carat diamond. When all other variables are constant, the discount on a .95-.99 will be minimal. After carat weight, most expensive factor in a diamond is clarity. IMO this is where you can drop a grade to save money IF you are shopping for a brilliant cut stone (round, oval, pear, radiant, etc) But even that is not so simple. Most common diamond order is a 1 carat (H color and SI1 clarity) so the price on that will be a little less flexible than the same diamond but (I color, VS2 clarity) Also, everyone wants a XXX cut grade, but a diamond with a VG polish grade will be virtually the same to your eye unless you grade diamonds for a living.

I walked out with a ring having only paid for 20-25% of it’s marked price. I of course returned regularly to make payments . Of course, statistically now, many people would be ok with an engagement ring that isn't even diamond. Sapphire and emerald are some of the most common alternatives, but honestly I would think as long at it is a real stone, and isn't black (aka, not an onyx, what kind of monster are you? *nervous laughter* ), it will probably be received well, and if not, she probably isn't worth it anyway. Sorry, but it's true.

Also, get a lab-grown diamond if you are going to get one. Not only will it be higher quality for whatever price point you purchase at, it's guaranteed to not be a blood diamond. There's probably a lab that grows them in your area.

@tealeafs3824
Жыл бұрын

Just so everyone knows, 0.95 is still confused a carat. In American Jewelry stores, 0.95-1.11 is considered a carat.

13 years together, 9 years married, a home and a kid… happy as the day we got engaged! My ring isn’t even a diamond- it’s moisanite. Less than $230 for the set. The money doesn’t matter.

“Do I care about what other naked human eyes see as long as I’m happy?” Is the real question
Never really bought an engagement ring. We used that money to fund our first class plane tickets and 5 star hotels to Greece, France, and Spain instead.
I’m obviously not on the receiving end of a ring but I’d get a lab sapphire or ruby. Firstly, I think colored stones look cooler and I could get them high quality and larger (or more) than I would get with natural stones. My mom has a large sapphire (natural I think) and two smaller diamonds in hers. I love it so much compared to a similar cost ring with just a natural diamond

I like your mindset. Women sometimes need to think outside of the box, than just demanding the most expensive ring there is.. Besides, colorful stones are so much prettier than just a bland transparent diamond, which you can barely see.

Rule number 1: Never say the E word! It immediately adds 2 zeros to your price tag. My engagement ring was a custom job and cost me less than $400.
If hear "for sure, for sure, but..." My mind is going to melt
A jade ring honestly sounds wonderful. Jade is hella strong too so you could costumize it
Engagement money saving tip #1: Stay single.
I hate diamonds. Overrated as hell. My engagement ring is alexandrite and moissinite and was under a grand. I love it and i really don't care if anyone else doesn't. My fiancé was just happy that i was happy with it. He was very surprised i didn't want a diamond ring. How anyone can honestly spend so much money on something so small and honestly not that important is beyond me. It's about the bond and commitment, not the ring, dress, wedding, or cake.
I actually learned this from the recent season of Indian matchmaking 💀💀💀

Omg we looked at engagement rings recently and 1 karat is HUGE. I would hurt myself with something that big. Even .5 karat was pushing it for me 😅
The slight difference in size can be felt at resale value too, not all influencers are always right

After 12 years of marriage I honestly can’t remember I I could afford a 1 carat or .5 carat diamond for my fiancé…. But what can remember is that I actually couldn’t afford either, the jewelry store let me put the ring on an account in my name and if there was can convince fee it was minimal and totally worth it . I walked out with a ring having only paid for 20-25% of it’s marked price. I of course returned regularly to make payments . Now I still remember how nice the sales people were and how much they were willing to work with me. I was even more grateful years later when I came to understand that this was not common practice in the jewelry industry. Full price or nothing, no installment plans . Shout out to mom and pop businesses .

Been a jeweler since fall ‘04, and this makes me smile. And it’s not just the full carat milestone that comes with a price hike. Just one that is commonly encountered.

We went pawn shopping for my ring and I choose opals in 10 ct gold. Oval white opal in the middle surrounded by a halo of small round ones. Looks absolutely beautiful on my skin tone and didn’t cost my husband an arm and a leg. He wants to get me a “better” one, but that can wait 5-10 years. I love this one

Yeah, because all retail workers are required to tell the truth.
Man, videos like this make me happy that my girlfriend finds the whole idea of shelling out on these things unnecessary. We got basic gemstone rings as we prefer a pop of color, and it works just fine. When we die nobody’s gonna care about who has a 16 carat ring or not
Best tip I have for saving money on an engagement and wedding ring is, you don't actually need one.

Also, get a lab-grown diamond if you are going to get one. Not only will it be higher quality for whatever price point you purchase at, it's guaranteed to not be a blood diamond. There's probably a lab that grows them in your area. You can get exactly the diamond you want and then get a setting custom-made to your girl's choosing for less money than buying a mined diamond off the shelf.
Avoid engagement rings. Buy your SO an engagement sword!

Him: "I've been doing this as long as I've been doing this." Also him: *been doing this for 1 day*
My husband did this. I have three princess cut stones. And he got them in .3, .4, .3. so they add up to 1 ct but since he avoided the .5 marker he paid a lot less.
For real tho. I work with diamonds every day, and unless you pull out the calipers and have a dimensions table, nobody is going to be able to see that a set stone is a little lighter weight. There are so many cut differences that can even make 2 different 1ct stones look like different sizes.
Tip #1: If you never get married you save 100% on the ring.😅
