This is a famous song that Duke Ellington is said to have improvised during a dance party. It has since been covered by many artists, and is famous for its collaboration with tenor saxophonist John Coltrane. It has also been used in movies and is well-known.
デューク・エリントンがダンスパーティ中に即興で作ったと言われる名曲です。その後多くのアーティストにカヴァーされ、テナーサックス奏者ジョン・コルトレーンとの共演が有名です。映画などでも使われ、親しまれています。
演奏している楽器は、1948年製の Cornet 80A“Victor” モデルです。（シリアルNo. #377***)
いわゆるロング・コルネット（アメリカン・タイプ）ですが、形状がかなり特殊です。右手で少し隠れてしまっていますが、ピストンバルブの左側にある音程微調整のための機構（通称「オペラグラス」）が特に特徴的です。音は通常のアメリカン・コルネットに比べ、更に柔らかでマイルドです。
The instrument I’m playing is a Cornet “80A Victor” model made by C. G. Conn around 1948 (serial no. #377***).
It is a so-called long cornet (American type), but its shape is quite unique. The mechanism for fine tuning the pitch (commonly known as “opera glasses”) on the left side of the piston valve is particularly distinctive. The sound is softer and milder than that of a regular American cornet.
