In 1930 traveling from Lucknow to .... 'A private video shot by an American couple'.

Indeed you will be astonished to see this American Couple make this movie in 1930 while travelling and coming to Lucknow and Varanasi. Residency and Imambara are wonderful. Observe traditionally dressed locals et al. We found it quite interesting.

When I was walking on the roads of Varanasi, I was wondering, " I am walking on the same same place where Rama, Laxmana, Sitadevi, walked, The Pancha Pandavas walked, great sages like Agastya, Angirasa, Vasishta walked, Satya Harishchandra walked...... Wow!!! What a great place!!"

A line in the video says that "the ashes of dead are unceremoniously thrown in the water of the Ganges in Benaras". You do not need any ceremony on top of a ceremony. The maker of the video probably did not realise that having ones' ashes immersed in Ganga in Kashi is itself the greatest last ceremony for a Hindu. Very few Hindus can hope its done for them. As per belief, it gives instant moksha.

( We had prep from parents, relatives & friends prior to visiting Lucknow and the region, which included the schools in Mussourie.) Good luck and go with an open mind and arms. Don't compare today to what was back then. Absorb the old architecture; buildings, history and place yourself in the shoes of your ancestors. Have fun.

It was very clever and artistic at some point to stop the background music and leave only the sounds of the Ganges river, the voices of people, and the ringing of the bells. No need of music there.

Even today, the design of the platform is exactly the same!! From this video I guess, it's the meter gauge or also called choti line railway station of Lucknow! As there two railway stations in Lucknow, one is meter gauge and the other broad gauge one.. The meter gauge one or choti line railway station was the first railway station of Lucknow to be built!

A tremendous film to view which was made by the American couple. Looking at the history of the place around that time, were the visitors possibly engaged with Missionary/Church projects. There were many within India at the time. Our direct ancestor Pastor Matthew Stephens was pastor at the Methodist Church(Central I think) and his family were active in the church and vicinity. At the beginning of the film, it briefly showed Charbagh station. My direct ancestors were PWI's, Station Masters, Drivers or fireman around that time for a number of decades. As we visited Lucknow, we were also informed that one of our ancestors was caretaker of ''The Residence'' for a while. I could go on, but don't wish to be boring. As one can see, my connection to the place is large, and look forward to the next interesting video and even better to visit again. I wish everyone good health.
