Great stuff. GTU class racing was intense. The Huffaker Fiero (3litre transverse 4-cylinder mid-engined) was a major player. Visigers Fiero won 6 races of 17 that year, and he had 1 second place finish. He lost championship barely to Tom Kendall in an RX7 Mazda, only because Kendall entered more of the 17 races than Visger. Fiero was formidable back then but much maligned today. Sad really, as car had so much more potential to be realized. Never mind that prototype GTP-Lights Spice Fieros were also dominant in that category. But that's another story.

Fantastic race. Put that on tv out and get yourself a popcorn with big pepsi or beer or watever you like.

Rod Millens Pikes Peak Tacoma is one of those Celicas, they just swapped body panels.

@@YourUncleScroatie Yes. Sort of. Pontiac had Super Duty block and cylinder head for the Iron Duke back then, and IMSA gave them a very generous displacement allowance to compete with the Mazdas.
