Late evening Raga

I was fortunate enough to have Ustad Imrat Khan as a professor in college. The class was called "Indian Music" but was more just about life, and the deep role that music can play in it. I miss those days. An amazing man and musician.

How incredibly jealous I feel. I'm a student of Indian Classical Vocal for past 30 years. The serenity I derive from riyaz (practice) gives the understanding that GOD IS THERE, in heart and mind of man: and nowhere else. Riyaz in itself, is such a fulfilling experience that other achievements become secondary. If only got to get some insights from the greats who enlightened our soil.

you probably dont care at all but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
" I was given a free hand and told not to worry about the time. As I looked out at the mountains through the windows it seemed as if I was transported back in time and was playing in the royal darbar. I closed my eyes and before I knew it I had played just the alaap for 40 minutes. Hurriedly I completed the recording in 20 minutes after that! I miss those times. " khansahab

Slow and heavy. The humble blessings of where i sit now, reflecting upon those three years in solitary confinement. Every precious moment.
I had the great honour of sharing a stage with him in a workshop at Kings lynn ( England) town hall about 1980, and then Enjoying his concert on the same evening . A truly memorable occasion.
The majestic sou7nd of the surbahar does full justice to the mood of the Darbari Kanada- and the great Imrat Khan was an artiste who deserved many more accolades than he received.
Such a treat...I don't know of any other music that comes close to the level of emotional unearthing that this piece does for me.

This Darbari is the most profound I have ever heard creating vast emotional internal landscapes and divine spaces.
"I have a [sitar] that play so loud, you will think that you are losing your mind." I love it. A truly unique musician.
Darbari is the most profound raga creating emotional vast landscapes and divine spaces in your inner self.. His playing of this instrument is so soulful and captivating! Clearly he is a master of tonality and dynamics. Just breathtakingly beautiful
Darbari was played by three individuals. Imrat Khan, Vilayat Khan and Ali Akbar Khan. It was sung by two. Amir Khan and Gangubai Hangal. Profound indeed. Such is a class!
Imrat Khan's rendition of Raga Darbari gives the perfect atmosphere in my long hours of study. Study becomes a subtle form of meditation...
Fantastic recording, fantastic artist, fantastic surbahar. What else could you want.
Ustadji has touched the music of silence through his divinity. My pranam.
Lucky enough to be training with one of his sons! An otherworldly beauty to this playing, like nothing else
One of the greats for sure. I'm thankful to have experiences him live a few times in the 90s. Each time was such a blessing and took me into. such deep stat3s. Thanks Maestro!

Yes, exactly! This man breaths expression into his instrument like no one else. Brilliant.
Any listener of the great Khans know the value of dignified silence. This, undoubtedly is the best Darbari, the raga of the Mughal darbar, by any instrument over the times. And at 47.00, you discover how the river Ganga first came down from the Himalayas.
What a master piece. Sur Bahar, with it's deeply resonating notes in lower octave is perhaps best suited to capture the serious nature of this widely presented raga. Played in impeccable Imdadkhani gharana style, this master piece has the strength to carry one to a different world.
This is amazing! Finally I found some classical Indian music that I can relate to. Very meditative and introspective. I know nothing about the musician but I hope I learn more. Thank you for sharing. Namaste. 🙏🏻
only for classes .. so much philosophical and technical classical music... respect from the heart to this great artist ...
After less than 4 minutes, I had to do something else, but I still gave it a like. This is a recording that deserves a proper listen.
what an amazing sound of surbahar....soo deep
one of the best darbari aalaaps one will ever hear. stuns you into silence.
Majestic raag on majestic instrument and who better than Imrat Khan Sahib with it !! Soothing and hypnotising piece . One of the best performances I have ever enjoyed.

Well, the best that I have experienced. His versatility is unmatched. And I love his use of silence between his flurry of chords. Is this common in other Sitar masters, [?] because I have never heard anything like it, before!
@malinibhattacharya9226

@@skywatcher1972 It's not so common among other sitar masters. Ustad Shahid Parvez of recent times uses silence very masterfully. If you enjoy the silence amidst the rain of musical notes you may listen to Ustad Shahid Parvez too. Though Sitar has a lighter timbre than the Surbahar. By the way, this is Surbahar, (Bass Sitar) having a deeper sound quality compared to Sitar.
His sound is so rich sounding in this recording, beautiful
Absolute bliss!❣ Darbari has always known to have a deep soul stirring effect on anyone who is willing to surrender. So is this treat. प्रणाम 🙏
Amazing and what a wonderful instrument!!!!!
This is Music.Absolutely superb. Many thanks for the upload.
Every note is a compellingly imperious hammer blow that emotes, but each of them a touchingly sonorous, melodic & agreeably intense, meditative & musical hammer blow. Interspersed with silent interregnums - when 1 could almost smell the Incense, the Jasmine & the Attar of Roses in the music chamber. Thank you.
बहुत ही सुन्दर आशु रचना | अत्यंत ही गहरी|
Excellent piece of music. Darbari touches to your heart.
Exquisitely sublime.... drags my soul into another world...the world of devotion.
Every note filled with divine silence... Such a bliss🙏
