As artistes and performers Mehdi Bhai and I were very close, and years ago we toured Europe together for a period of over two months with Moin Akhtar. Mehdi Bhai was not a celebrity yet when as a teenager, I first saw him, in an outdoor Radio Pakistan Lahore concert. I had accompanied my parents. My father was the Great Sajjad Sarwar Niazi, the first ever Director of all All India Radios, i.e Peshawar, Lahore, Delhi, Madras, established by the British in INDIA! My father, my mother and I were special guests in the front row, and Mehdi Bhai told me how he remembered our presence at the said concert! His singing was so extraordinary that my father said to me, "listen to him with concentration, because one day he will be a Huge Name!" How right my father was! 💥💥💥💥💥 طافو صاحب نے الفاظ سخت استعمال کیے ۔۔۔۔ لیکن ان کا موقف کافی درست تھا دیگر میوزک ڈائریکٹر بھی دبے لفظوں میں اس کا اظہار کرتے تھے۔ ایک گانا تھا جو مہدی حسن صاحب نہیں گا پا رہے تھے وہ پھر مسعود رانا صاحب سے ریکارڈ کرایا گیا ۔۔۔ وجہ یہی تھی۔

Ustad tafu appeared in tv show when khan saheb passed away and praised him and about his singing , he also said that he played tabla in 80% of khan saheb's film song recordings. He also mentioned khan saheb's generosity and said few times khan saheb gave him blank check and asked him to write the amount you want due to his good performance as tabla player. Why the hell he insulted khan saheb now has to be discovered yet which hurt khan saheb's family and fans around the world, too sad .

Totally agree. This was quite unnecessary. No one with a working brain will ever doubt the greatness of mehdi hassan. As for Mr Tafu's rambling, would have been best to ignore as ramblings of an aging man with probably some health deterioration.

I think Tafu Khan was not in his senses when he said that. Seemed to be drunk. When he became normal he was ashamed what he said so he apologized.

I saw Tafu khans comment, personally i did not like what he said about Mahdi hassan.. then i thought may be it is his age as in old age people go crazy and say stupid things. Another thing i never like is how Honey albela made miscarry of Mahdi hassan singing in Aftab Iqbal’s show. Because of that reason i stopped watching Aftab iqbal’s programs long before he disappeared from my screens. For the same reason anywhere i see Honey albela on my KZread, the only i do is hit “not interested” button. I agree with you Sir Mahdi Hassan and like him Mr Anwar Maqsood is our asset.
