Improving RV Solar Rack Aerodynamics.... again on our Bus Conversion

We take a look at our aerodynamic fairings or air dams for our solar rack. We used aluminum panels before, but they fatigued over times and started to break. This time we use HDPE and aluminum frames to stiffen it up and rivets for the primary mounting.

Always on the kids to check the blinker fluid.

FYI, faster air drops in pressure. Your going to have a massive amount of air pressure under the panels. The faster you go the higher the pressure difference, its how a 747 gets off the ground. And yes you can get drill bits that make square holes, they are used for joinery.

That’s true, I’ve done some wind tunnel aero experiments. I plan to do a video on it, but I need a better apparatus. Anyway, my preliminary findings show the windshield makes a big low pressure zone above the front cap so this may not be a big deal anyway at higher speeds, but we’ll see.

@@HimmelbergerBus what about something like a splitter concept - as they use on the front of sportscars? no low pressure zones to create turbulence of forces....just a thought... You are trying to reduce drag, but you are introducing more of it - it seems....

FYI ; I would have just used “Door Hinges”…..js on both ends would have been wayyyyy better.

You know, that’s not a bad idea. I’ll need to remember that. Thanks!

I would have just angled the front panels downward

Didn't you have your solar panels flat to the roof? What made tou raise them? Was it too hot under the panels. Just starting my project.

Wanted more and added vents. Just made sense to go over the top of everything. I didn’t even have to drill new holes, just did stand offs from My original supports.
