I am a person with an invisible disability. What I have learned is if you find large corporations or government institutions, they will always have a DEI officer or department within HR. So, if your getting the door slammed in your face, according to DEI regulations, company X has to give time of day to give the first meeting. I have a free business advisor with my state agency of Vocational Rehabilitation and they *could* persuade company X to talk to you or they could recommend company X's state funding should be cut and encourage a lawsuit for you. Ableism is alive and totally real and it needs to stop like yesterday.

As a person with several invisible disabilities with a service dog in training there has been a few...... unsavory encounters with either a business or worse a doctor's office. My most recent unsavory encounter was at my primary care doctor's office. I was supposed to be seen by the nurse practitioner that is under him. But, while in the waiting room -and keep in mind that I was there just 4 months prior with the same dog- I was questioned about having him with me by the front desk and then the office manager who then stated "I have to go back to speak to the nurse practitioner" (in quite a snobbish tone that was uncalled for) and she then came back out from the back without telling me anything. I didn't know that I was stuffed into the doctor's schedule as the nurse practitioner refused to see me. I spoke to the doctor about it that day about how the two in the front were to me as well as trying to give a possible reason for why I got placed in his schedule (severely scared of dogs or severely allergic) but he said no to both as she has her own dogs. He then asked me about how HE can best provide training to his staff to avoid incidents like that in the future.

I’m a person with an invisible disability who understands more psychiatric disabilities but this video is so helpful with talking about physical disabilities. I do use a service dog so I understand all of those things but I’m so glad they were detailed about other things besides service dogs. I work in a grocery store now and I am trying to learn how to better help my customers.

I think this video is awesome. My brothers are both disabled. I think video is a great way to bring awareness.

T Holmes I feel like a bother anytime I have to go get supplies to get by on. Yes I move slow due to arthritis and Parkinson’s. Yet must rush to get the bare needs for survival. I sure wish we still had carry out service. It’s such a painful procedure that I eat once daily to ration my needs, while shrinking. Carry out service was once always available before I needed it. Greed has taken that away, along with starter jobs for the young. Have to make a short run out now as time ran out before I got toilet paper last trip, pain and rationing time for check out, loading and unloading makes one forgetful as well. Not able to live any longer but too stubborn to die under such torcher. Yes, I survive alone with only God’s help. I’ll live here for Him until I go live with him. I refuse to lie to get help.

Well if that was the case I think it might be a good idea to think about what you can do to change it to a better experience next time....for example, if you do your shopping in Walmart on a certain day would it be possible to let Walmart know a day ahead of time so they can make sure they have enough staff to help you?...how about even ringing them ahead of time (if that's possible) to let them know you'll be coming and specify exactly what you'll need help with...that way not only will Walmart feel more organised but also you'll less likely feel rushed and best of all it'll give you a real opportunity to develop a really positive relationship with you so you'll get the best shopping experience possible....wishing you the very best of luck and I hope you enjoy your shopping much more in the future...

How about businesses train their staff to be more inclusive towards people with a disability, that’s what they are there for, to help their customers irregardless of their disability

Venom0086 dark this is new to me since my last stroke but understand too well. Especially at Dr appointments, although no one understands me well now. They get frustrated quickly so I’ve become isolated.

If you hate it when people don't understand you make it easier for them to say so!...what I mean by that is that when people don't understand others it's frustrating for BOTH sides so, ask them if there's any other way they'd like you to communicate which would help...it goes both ways I'm afraid!

I'm in a wheelchair and half the time I can't reach the counter to pay, I can't hear good either so I hate it when they treat me like I'm stupid for not hearing the first time they talk to me. I'm am trying my best. One time I went to a doctor's appointment, I never been to see this doctor, I went on my own cause he was only a couple of blocks away. I get there and I had a hard time to get the door open and when I did it was just a long staircase going down. I didn't know what to do. I had my phone so I called them and was told it was the only way to their office. No elevator even..then this man appeared for his appointment and offered to carry me down, I said no thank you (that seems scary what if he looses balance and drops me OMG) I then rolled home.

yikes, that sounds like it should be illegal. a doctor should be accessable. I can't beleive after you called them the doctor didnt come up to you.

Good video, honestly something I never thought about. I admit I'm afraid to bring up disabilities and how best to help the person who has one; I spend too much time pretending it doesn't exist.

I so happy and thankful what they have they might be different in a different way but doesn't means u get to make fun of them they did a play with people who actually have this stuff it was real they wasn't acting I was crying in a happy way.

I have speech and language disability learning disability i feel people treat me different and they talk to me i don't understand i live a normal life I'm happy married live on my own you do everything independent my shelf

if someone is avoiding eye contact please still treat them as an individual, I have a type of autism that makes it difficult for me to maintain eye contact. I still apreciate people who look at my face. I know it's unusual and I try but sometimes I get nervous and can't always lookl at you. just because I have this problem doesn't mean I have others, I'm actualy quite smart and know what I want but sometimes people see my lack of eye contact and unusual body language and patronise me. always take the persons lead. If I need help I will ask for it! i'm used to asking for help

My attention span can vary each day or what I'm doing as I fixate on the same thing for a while and some people just scream.

Great job on the video... This can really help alot of people understand on how to help others :)

PLEASE ASK ME It's rude as when wait staff ask my caregiver I want from restaurants even after they have stood by the table and heard us having a conversation. I can speak for myself.

You're right it is rude but try putting yourself in the waiting staff's shoes...they may feel uncomfortable around people with disabilities for fear of insulting you by saying something which may cause offence...instead, try this out...when the wait staff come to your table have a prior agreement made with your caregiver that you order first and that they remain silent until you've finished...or even, if the wait staff ask your caregiver what you want get your caregiver to say "well, (insert name), what are you having today?"...that'll give you the opening you need...
