IMPROVED USAF Anti-Ship & SEAD Attack vs Russia's Black Sea Fleet (WarGames 104B) | DCS

Ойындар

We use DCS World to re-simulate the effect of a large USAF aerial anti-ship strike on the Russian Black Sea naval fleet. The strike includes F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lighting II and F-15E Eagle with AGM-158C LRASM missiles. Russia defends with Su-35 Flanker and Su-57 Felon. This time we add Ukrainian Mig-29 Fighters with AGM-88G AARGMER modern anti-radiation missiles to tackle Russia's S-400 SAM batteries.

Important thing to note about the agm-88G, it's planned to be implemented into the internal weapons bay of the F-35A and F-35C, which the current HARM cannot fit into with its large fins. F-35 would be a radically more capable SEAD platform than a Gen-4 aircraft because of its stealth, sensor fusion, and datalink capabilities. Edit: Senpai noticed me

There are a few other things which the game doesnt model, for example Growlers (and other SEAD aircraft pods) providing wide area-jam to cover allied aircraft as well as their personal self defense jamming capability, Europeans introducing active radar decoys into chaff dispensers like Britecloud over the last decade as well as the Praetorian DASS Eurofighter defensive aids upgrade including a towed decoy (introduced around 2000 for UK/Italy and a rival system called EURODASS introduced from Tranche 4 for Germany/Spain). US having a few aircraft with towed decoys installed like the AN/ALE-50 since the late 90's and then starting around 2010 towed decoys also started being included in the ALQ-184(V)9 ECM pod.

I've got a story for you Cap. Around the late 90's early 2000 Tally Defence Systems in Mesa,Az closed down their mesa headquarters and moved just down the road after merging with NAMMO making it now NAMMO-TALLY DEFENSE. This is the crazy part. They dropped the the "big"ball and walked away from the building and left it to the wolves. The price for scrap steel was at its highest so originally I was there for the solid steel commercial grade doors. Then I started looking around and noticed punk kids had trashed everything. Tipping desks and filing cabinets over ablivious to the content inside. 30 offices in a huge two story building on 10 acres. It was hard to keep your balance sliding around on the hundreds and hundreds of "FILES AND FLOPPY DISKS" containing all the missile systems, formulas for propellants and explosives and the results of all the years and years of testing these systems. Absolute irresponsibility at the highest level. The Chinese would be creaming rice pudding for this content. So as we speak I looked into the abandoned building on Google. Someone had posted pics on Flickr only to have the entire story removed. Google "NAMMO" for some valued content regarding defense systems. Valued Grim Reaper viewers have heard it here first since I've never disclosed this info to any other souls. God bless America. That is all.

In the videos of S-400 failing to defend targets against GMLRS, we often see the S-400 firing, we see the misisles launch against the incomming Missiles, then we see the Missiles hit anyway. Meaning it's not that Russia chose not to intercept for economic reasons, they very much did attempt, they simply did not succeed

Long range air defense is not supposed to intercept GMLRS. GMLRS fires 1-2 packages with 6-12 missiles, S-300/400/500 has only 4 missiles, which intended to shot down much more advanced aerial targets, like stealth aircrafts. They use short range air defense, like Pantsir-S, instead, but it supposed to be located near the strike target. Recently video with Pantsir-S shot down 12 Himars missiles and photos of unexploded shrapnel from himars missiles was uploaded

not even r77m , where is r37m? there is physical evidence of that being used extensively in ukraine (ukraine also said this). su35/mig31 and even su57 can use them. it would work on su57 as it is still somewhat stealthy and at really far ranges its stealth still might help it and would be hard for a 4.5 gen to spot it from like 200km +.

Another grand slam by Cap and the boys (and girl) The best part is the human controlled aircraft and seeing each unique fighting styles. Violet Moon is a little hellion while all the boys have their levels of aggression and tactics. Some play the 'cloak & dagger" style combat, some are swinging a heavy club and some mix of both. All skilled. All make you think "thank God they're on our side". And Cap's play by play and analysis is the icing on the cake.

One thing about the AGM-88G, you mentioned that I would be used in real life to shut down sam radars, the AGM-88g has advanced senors that allow it to target a radar that is not emitting. It uses triangulation and arh in the terminal phase. You can look at some videos on the AARGM published by ATK if you are curious. Not that this really matters in game due to level of modeling.

Actually as it turned out, legacy AGM-88 given to Ukraine seem to be perfectly capable of taking out many different Russian SAMs. Second thing - there are several videos out there with Russian SAMs trying to shoot down GMLRS (and or HARMS). On many of these vids you can see that some missiles get shot down but some get through despite interceptors fired at them. Third - Russian manufacturer's OFFICIAL specifications for their SAM systems state their Pk against cruise missile type targets around 0.6. That's why they almost always say that you engage this type of targets with a salvo of two missiles. And that's why you can sometimes see a Pk vs cruise missile at around 0.8 with an asterisk* * Pk for a salvo of two missiles. So yes, does this or that system intercept this or that missile. Yeah, probably it can. But what is Pk going to be against a small Mach 3 or 4 missile if it's 0.6 against a huge slow cruise missile?

I imagine SEAD would be run from very, very high altitudes. I say this because the HARM will get a lock whenever the SAM gets a lock on the fighter, so you launch from the SAM's outermost range, you turn cold and go home. The missile does the rest. The SAM operator is now trying to maintain a lock on you, with no real idea a missile is coming for him - and even if he does realize a HARM has been launched, and he turns his radar off, the AGM-88 impacts the radar signals last known location. It's almost a guaranteed kill for the HARM, but the SAM missile is never going to catch up to the fighter .

It's not the cost of the missiles, but the value of the target that is the main determinant of whether an action is cost-effective. I know it is a limitation of your gaming hardware and software. But, I think back to the opening of Desert Storm to imagine what this would have really looked like. Cyber attacks, waves of JASSM-ER and Tomahawk cruise missiles intermixed with decoys launched by heavy bombers, ships and submarines. Radar suppressed and spoofed by Wild Weasel and other ECM aircraft while holes are punched in the radar warning net by attack helicopters and commando teams allowing stealth aircraft to attack command and control nodes and SAM sites while attack aircraft, more bombers and ships unleash more cruise missiles and precision guided bombs on the Black Sea fleet and other targets. Top cover is provided by F-22s. Dozens of tankers would be standing by to refuel aircraft that require it.

Interesting to speculate how much of a difference a stealth coating could make with it... If you do a video like this, I would like to see multiple trials; one with the HARM carried by 4th Gen, one with F-35s carrying the HARM and using the stealth to get as close as safely possible before firing, one with F-35s as before but the HARMs have a minor stealth coating, and so on. Cap, I was just thinking about your missile wastage problem: As I understand it you always set planes to fire at maximum range: would it be possible to have only the front rank of planes to fire at max range, and subsequent planes fire at a middle or otherwise shorter range? This should emulate 'deconfliction' by preventing the bank ranks firing missiles at planes the front ranks have already fired on as soon as they come into range. Then by the time the front planes are winchester and RTB the second and third waves will be firing more effectively. Dunno if you can set this only by airframe type or by squadron, but if you can change it up in this way it may help!

14:26, pretty sure you're wrong, Cap. The US has not given Ukraine any unguided M26 rockets, because they are cluster munition only. Informed speculation is that the software on Russian S-400 systems simply isn't suited to intercepting GMLRS rockets due to them not acting like either air breathing threats, or theater ballistic missiles, and unable to differentiate them from short range artillery rockets. Check out Ryan McBeth's channel, "HIMARS on Russian Radar - how does it get through?"

My suggestion if you do something similar again, and I don’t know if the program can represent it, is that the USAF and USN would make relatively heavy use of MALD-J and JASSM to attack an IADS along with the AARGM. I suspect the format would look something like this. You can launch MALD and JASSSM at the target since they travel at roughly the same speed. In real life there are likely MALD variants with small warheads that would be fine but if not JASSM would do the job. Depending on the platform I can carry 6-8 MALD for each JASSM. Let’s say we send 4 F-15E with two JASSM and 8 MALD. I would essentially chase those inbound with a flight of 8 F-35. 4 are flying up at medium altitude with AARGM’s internal. Turn on the MALD-J when you cross into range of the S-400. Fire off your AARGM once the S-400 is heavily engaged with the MALD/JASSM. My other 4 F-35 are smoking in low and not far behind the MALD/JASSM mess. The and pickle off SDB at all the surviving constituent parts of the S-400 while the top cover F-35’s keep firing AARGM at any radars that pop up just to discourage them. I may lose a few planes today. But if I well and good kill your system by getting in close with SDB I start way ahead tomorrow.

You really need to do this scenario with the humans on the Russian side (or spread between the sides). Like most of these 'what if' scenarios you make up, victory does not go to who has the best equipment, the best tactical position, or anything like that - its purely down to who gets the human pilots. Probably the worst example was one not too long ago, iirc it was a Russian anti-ship missile attack against Americans, and the Russians totally and utterly dominated the Americans and got all their anti ship missiles out, only for a couple of pesky human pilots to fly in and shoot down all the missiles - and this was recorded as a victory for the Americans. Imagine this scenario if the Russians had a couple of humans escorting the Russian fleet loaded out with R73s and could easily shoot down all the approaching LRASMs.....

As you said a 1.5 million S-400 (a 12m long missile...) would not be fired to shoot down a little 50k incoming outdated SEAD, these missiles are fired against reasonable targets I believe.
