In this video, we had Jordan Shallow in office to provide us with an Iliotibial Band (#ITband) exercise protocol. The IT Band is a multi-purpose tendon that connects the ilium to the tibia - hence the name IT band.
In the gym, sports, and daily life the IT Band plays a vital role in supporting stability at the hips and knees. At the hip, the IT Band connects the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and tensor fascia latae (TFL) together and serves as a messenger system between these muscles. Additionally, the IT Band can play a role on a healthy gait cycle.
In Dr. Shallow's IT Band exercise circuit, he likes to start by focusing on the muscles that are connected by the IT Band, then eventually working to the IT Band and stability focused exercises.
If you're finding yourself with IT Band issues, then we'd highly recommend trying out this IT Band circuit in both your warm-up and downtime throughout the day!

Man...some of these were painful! I've been using them since and they've gotten much easier. - Jake

The drill at minute 5:00 is definitely difficult. I dont have pain in these areas but i have balance/ strength and stability issues. Especially when standing on one foot or require anything with balance.

Do you recommend those movements for people that are dealing with hip/knee pain like myself?
