Imprinting my female Golden Eagle. THE DAKOTA PROJECT
Ойын-сауық
It is with great sadness to announce the death of Dakota on the 21/09/17 at 6:30pm I was out hunting hares with Dakota, she flew after a hare and her attention was drawn to a pheasant running as the hare ran through the cover, the pheasant took flight and Dakota gave up on the pheasant and pitched up to the highest point closest to her, this high point was an electric power pole with a transformer box just below the cables. Dakota was killed instantly landing on the transformer box.

My 11year old daughter did a report on eagles and became smitten with golden eagles. We watched this together not knowing Dakotas story. Suffice it to say, the ending was awful. Sorry for your tremendous loss. What a majestic bird she was.
Sorry for your loss Brother... To have put so much effort into training, becoming close and nurturing a trusting relationship with such a majestic animal, then to lose her in such a way must have been truly heartbreaking! =( My condolences!!
Such a gorgeous creature, I'm so sorry to learn that she passed in such a pointless way. May her majestic avian soul rest in peace.

It takes a lot of patience, commitment, time and not least knowledge to do this. And then you have to be prepared that they do not always survive. All credit to this man.
OH NO!!! I've been watching with great admiration all the great care and devotion you've put into imprinting and teaching your eagle, and just read the description box. I'm so sorry for your loss. Birds are truly special creatures...you must miss her.

firstly its great not "grate" and secondly how do you know what this mans intentions were with the bird ?????? just a thought but did you think at any point that this may have been a orphaned bird that would not have survived without the devotion love and care for the bird that this man gave not to mention the fact the bird was only 4 months old which means he could have been training it so he could release it and be at peace with the knowledge that it will be able to catch food on its own accord?? maybe this was a sanctuary for birds of prey because from the little knowledge I have on the subject it takes a shit ton of time, money and know how t train such birds.

What a magnificent eagle! I am so sorry for your loss. Dakota's videos have educated people about falconry and these awesome birds of prey. You had obviously a great bond with her, and loved her very much. She was equally fond of you, which is obvious from the videos. I rescued several hawks as a teenager in India. One was called Al Capone, who fell out of his nest as a young bird, so had to be cared for and allowed to take test flights to the neighbors roof tops. The neighbors would call me and let me know he was on their roof top and I would have to go get him till he finally learned to fly. Then he flew off into the sunset and we really missed him in our family. Another eagle had a bullet in his shoulder which had shattered. I treated him, took out the fragments, set his bones, gave him good medical care, fed him raw meat, and miraculously, he gained his health and lived! Made his nest on our coconut tree, mated, and produced baby hawks. A third had been shocked by electric wires and just needed rest and food for a week. He flew off all restored. These hawks had wing spans of 7 feet. Stretched their wings out in the tropical sun on my balcony, next to cats and dogs. There were no vets around at that time in Calcutta, India. I was the vet for all of them. The pharmacy would advise me on basic first aid meds, and the rest was all TLC. I think they understood I was there to help them, and never gave me any trouble. They were such regal and powerful birds and I admired them so much. All that work and bonding, so very sad Dakota had this accident. I really feel your loss.

@@thefalconersapprentice2226 That's understandable. And a part of the fascination. You form a symbiosis with a predatory animal based upon the animal's instictive features. The disciplin of traning so intensely comes out very strongly in your video and that is admireable. It shows that with determination, disciplin and the will to 'get it right'´, 'make it happen', 'to succed' doesn't come easy nor without pain. ~
I too watched the whole video not knowing it was about an hour long. I usually won’t watch a video that long but I love eagles so I stayed to watch. You did a great job with that beautiful bird starting when she was a baby. To see her grow and learn and obey you and hunt on her own was a wonderful experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. I started to read some of the comments and people were extending their sympathy’s so I went to the description box and read what had happened. It was like a ton of bricks fell on me and it saddened me to no end to bring tears to my eyes. I had high hopes for this raptor as I watch a lot of videos of Golden Eagles being hurt and taken to shelters for recuperating care. I am so sorry for your loss especially with all the time you spent with her being so patient with your training and the love you had for her. I hope you get another chance to raise another eagle some day and the two of you become inseparable companions to one another. Thank you for sharing your experience with Dakota it was awesome!!!
Like so many of you I was just so spell bound by the effort and time and care into imprinting and teaching Dakota and after the accidental bite to your thumb how you assured her it was ok. And as I got to the end of the video it was as if I went into denial not really wanting to perceive what I was reading RIP Beautiful Dakota bless you gorgeous lady 😢
at 208 i stopped , i had to say ,......i so love the compassion in you. the love and bond you are forming . i wish every one in this whole world could have this for animals . im a animal lover and i have to say this bird would be sleeping next to me every night and day. just make sure you have a future for her if somthing happens to you. i am recently thinking of this now for my pets. bc you just cant will them to any one . unless family members are in to this life then there is no problem, but if you love any animal think of thier future too. god bless you both.

Birds are beautiful animals, they have their own character. It takes hard work and dedication as you showed us all. My mom has a Mexican Amazon red head parrot and she cries the same way when she don't get her way, very spoiled. I fear everytime my mom takes her out. That one day she will fly away, and get runed over since she gets scared easily. I don't want to think of how I would feel if something would happen to her, let alone my mother. She's been with us for 7 years now and I've made some videos on you tube with her. I was also awaiting to see Dakota become a great hunter. Agreed! This piece on Dakota represents a realistic take of the life of an exceptional creature of God. Yet we think of them like other insignificant creatures scurry out of the way of our cars, buses, and trains, or our attention. This shows the care and attention that is needed and isn't like taking a puppy home and feed it, there is responsibility. Showing the daily workouts reflected not only the love yet the intelligence of this bird; it also showed that caring/training birds of prey is no joke and why it is considered an art form that takes much dedication and discipline. Yes, like while hand feeding Dakota, she nicked his thumb and from his continual wiping, she sliced him good (I was shouting, "More pressure on the wound."). We need more vids showing the proper care and training of animals rather than the typical joyful receipt of new pet that we usually are shown in the media.
