Daniel, I am twice your age. I "came of age" in the late 70's/early 80's when being gay was so very, very hard: so often met with violence and certainly no acceptance. When I hear you say so casually, "my boyfriend, Oscar (Oskar?)"...you make me so very proud!!!!!!

Dan, i am happy to hear about your experience with Polaris Business. I have flown UA Polaris between ORD-HKG-SIN on the old 777-222ER. My experience was amazing, because the soft product elements were in place as the 777-300ER were just coming into the fleet. The seat was dated, but the soft product was so good that I didn't care. United has stepped up its game and will be a very competitive premium product once the hard product is fully installed on the long haul fleet.

Watching your videos is not just a learning experience but also highly entertaining. Thanks for another great one, Daniel, and kudos for mentioning your boyfriend by name. He's a very lucky man.

I have only had great service from United. Both of the following itineraries came from Aeroplan (Canada) points redemptions. In 2012, I flew in First Class from Chicago to Brussels and return from Frankfurt via Washington to Toronto. Within the year preceding this holiday, I had suffered a heart attack. Two friends had been severely injured in a train derailment near Toronto. Another friend had just died. In addition to working, I was my mother's caregiver. The crew from Chicago to Brussels was just super! Their service went above and beyond that night - something that I have never forgotten. On the return flight, too, the service was fantastic! In 2017, I flew again in First Class with United. Polaris had just been introduced; the Polaris Lounge in Chicago had just opened. On this routing, I flew from Chicago to Frankfurt, and, returned from Munich via Chicago to Toronto. Since my previous United experience, my mother had died from cancer; I had been her full time caregiver for the last year of her life. I had lost, and, kept off 100 lbs. of body weight. The lounge was the just wonderful; the team was attentive, friendly and helpful! That level of service continued on board all the way to Germany. On the return journey, the service was just as superb from the Bavaria all the way to the Windy City. Thank you for posting an update on United. I cannot wait to fly with it again!

Any plans to fly Delta One anytime soon? Love the videos. Also with respect to United, I also had similar reservations but I think in general they are improving across the company. Some rough patches here and there but I see some changes taking place.

Of course, my previous comment doesn't take into account the recent story of United flight attendants forcing a passenger to place their dog in the overhead bin, consequently killing it ... Come fly the friendly skies?

Seems like United have stepped up their game. I fly LH Business quite a few times a year and from the looks I'd prefer a single seat like in the United Polaris. I'll definitely try that on my next intercontinental flight to the US.

I tried Polaris from Narita to Newark last January and it was an awesome experience.

Congratulations on your channel, i have been watching it for some time now and it has always been good but lately, you have really made giant leaps of improvement. Your style is the same yet you have matured and it shows. Kudos!

I am 1K and I love united, yesterday I took the flight from BOM-EWR, it is a 16hr flight, I was upgraded to United Polaris, what a ride!!!! the best ever!

Nice service in Polaris Business Class,that bedding looked Absolutely fantastic,so comfy I'm sure.Yes I think I'd give United a try on my next long range International trip.Great video,nice job!

Hi Dan. Loved your video! I had my first experience flying Polaris (ORD --> GRU) last week and was similarly impressed with the bedding, seat (First on an older 777-200) and especially the friendly crew! Also, the Polaris lounge at O'Hare is a huge step-up from United Club with a la carte dining and craft cocktails. Lastly, show your boyfriend more the next video! ;)

Dan- Great review! I took the same flight about 2 years ago SFO-FRA when it was a 747, the flight you took on the B777-300ER, has increased seating space. You happen to show a Mileage Plus award requirement clip, just so everyone knows, United recently increased the mileage required in all classes across the board to get a ticket, the OW business class used to be 70K now it’s 80K, and First Class was 130K is now 140K, so in effect your miles on United are not worth what they once were. I love Lufthansa, I think it’s a superior product.

Great job on this! I like that you didn't spend 10 minutes on the menu and food. It always changes. The bedding tips were valuable. I leave for Singapore next week on the United 787-9. They have not been retrofitted with the 1-2-1 config so they are definitely not private. The upside is that there are more seats available in Business Class, making upgrade opportunities better. I flew the ANA 777-300 last November and it looked very similar to this. The service was impeccable. I would love to hear from you on what the United crew kerfuffle was. I had a horrific one a couple of years back, instigated by asking politely if they could reset the seat power. What commenced from there was probably the most insulting experience of my life. I am a 1K and a 1 Million Mile Flyer that should hit 2 million in a few more years. That made no difference to this nasty crew. Cheers to you and keep up the good work!

I am not surprised. I’ve enjoyed even the old business class. Your remark toward the crew is something I wanna get into for obvious reasons ... it should not make a difference when you fly, or to which destination you are flying in terms of the consistency of crew performance. However, crews are mixed st matched from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences and from personal experience during the last couple of months I can tell you that some love what they do and some just do it. This is probably why your experiences have been drastically different. No, it should not be this way, clearly, but to some degree it always will until the passionate people overrule those that are just “there”

Hi Dan! I've been watching your fantastic videos for a while now, but have only recently started making comments. Firstly, the Polaris cabin does indeed look fantastic, and I'd love to give it a go one day (or maybe in my dreams!). I can't help but suspect, that an airline like United, who in light of recent atrocious PR, is simply desperate for good reviews. Fantastic to hear how friendly and accommodating your flight attendant was, but I'm also glad you pointed out, despite the positive experience in the video, that United service is very inconsistent. Could it not be the case that your attendant happened to recognise you (or perhaps, your name was flagged on the passenger list), and they knew to give you VIP treatment? I'm looking forward to seeing a Lufthansa review. I'm keen to see how you compare the airline's 2-2-2 configuration, relative the privacy you enjoyed on this United 1-2-1 configuration. In other review videos, the Lufthansa BC cabin looks fantastic, and so I'm very keen to get your opinion on it also. Keep up the fantastic work!

Why don't you have one membership card in each alliance?

The new United Polaris is a huge improvement over the old seats. I really like it and had the chance to fly it several times now.

Got to say that I might now consider taking this one, taking the lh454 455 on a regular, because the a380 is just so pleasant I haven't bothered to check this flight even though it usually goes for a much better rate being personally referred to is something that at least I get on every lh flight where I am at least in premium, even on European routes LH business though is just not up to date, especially considering the rates they go for on US routes, hence thanks for the review

After seeing your video I must admit United surprised me with their Polaris Product. I have flown United domestically and to Latin America a few months ago, always coach and always a lackluster experience. I dont plan on flying United unless i have no choice, but your video was nice.

I've had similar United experiences, making me love United!

Dan is correct. In the UK we use odd and even numbers and would never use the term uneven in this context.

I don't fully understand when you said "I did not fly international routes, but I did travel international on United". It sounds like you said that you did something, but you did the opposite.

I have flown on just about every class on every plane for United out of their hub in Newark and I have always had a good experience flying with United. Some experiences were better than others, mostly the business/first class flights, but I haven't had a bad experience with United. I know thats not the case for others, but as a person who enjoys flying for the sake of flying, I chose to disregard any preconceptions or stories and treat every flight as a new experience and judge the flight solely on what I experience and on its merits alone, not on what I have heard or seen about the airline.

UA is making a concerted effort of make the right sort of changes. I am so glad you had a great experience in Our new Polaris product.

I flew Polaris 777-300 from SFO - HKG and had a similar excellent experience.

AnnaAndMaya Not all of their planes are equipped with this seat and soft product yet. Avoid any 777-200's that appear if you're looking for a flight.

I hated United’s old airplanes but the newer ones look awesome

Some of the old planes got new interiors, new seats, and such. Sadly the smaller ex-Continental 757’s didn’t get much more inside than new seat covers over the old seats.

I've had two experiences with crew who were interested in me taking photos. Once on a Flybe Dash where the flight attendant was suggesting better seats for me to sit in for landing, and then again last year on Monarch, the crew were really interested in our spotting and invited us to the flight deck after landing, can't complain!
