Love it when you show books like She-ra book, it just adds more Easter eggs to search for when out hunting the thrift shops garage sale etc. it kinda like having a new mini goal that keeps you moving forward.

I do like the cover of Batman 61 because it is unique. There can’t be too many covers with Batman and Robin getting to work on one of their designs .

I think you nailed that Dave Steven’s take. My LCS got like 3 short boxes of uncirculated Steven’s books with all the keys…Johnny Quest, Alien Worlds, DNAgents…etc…. They send out a whole bunch to cgc and got a lot of 9.8s. Even got planet comics 1 double cover both covers at a 9.8!!! I won an Alien worlds 4 from their whatnot stream and sent it right to cgc

I think the ME Ghost Rider title got a collectability bump due to the covers on issues 2, 3, 4, and 5, all of which were drawn by Frank Frazetta. The prices on those started to go up, I think, at about the same time Frazetta's Famous Funnies covers (209 to 216) departed the stratosphere. Also, this ME run is only 14 issues, so it's attainable, although most available copies are likely to be lower-grade. One other point in the ME run's favor (for collectability) is that the books generally have a precode horror vibe, with frequent horrific cover content. The character was likely pretty popular. He graduated into his own book from his original backup role in Tim Holt (starting with issue #11, after which he continued to appear in the title for several years). He was also a regular part of the roster for ME's "Best of the West," which ran for a few years in the early fifties. So a real fan could get three different Ghost Rider comics at the same time in a single publishing cycle. And then there are those 3 appearances in later issues of Bobby Benson's B-Bar-B Riders, another ME title, which by 1952 seemed to take the title toward some horror destinations, including another Ghost Rider cover (#15) and a partial (#13, by Frazetta), as well. Not too shabby. And there was even a full-page ad inside some of these ME comic books offering for sale a Ghost Rider Skull Mask. How have a lived so long without one?

Nice post Bry. One day, when I can start collecting in earnest again, I have got to acquire that Neal Adams Batman in high grade. That and the 1st cover of Ras Al Ghoul. Two of my favorite Neal Adams batman covers. These books also serve as an important reminder that there is a lot more to collecting than whatever is the current flavor of MCU FOMO. See u at 4 pm later today. Cheers!

That Schomburg cover doesn’t have particularly striking. Good girl art. no headlights no aliens no robots so that’s why that one’s a little cheaper. And that LB Cole patches cover is actually pretty iconic. I’ve seen that reference on a couple of chat boards in the last couple months.

Spot on as always, B. Couple things: Still waiting for Dave Stevens'...ahem...Bettie Page/'Zulu' cover to blow up on the collectors market. A video of 'transgressive' comic covers (and the sickos who collect them) could be in order. The Neal Adams Batman 227 is cash, but his Phantom Stranger covers should also be in the mix - as collectible Adams placeholders, at least... And finally... Would trade (almost) any modern Venom appearance for that Ghost Rider in a NY minute. 'Cus everybody gots Venom appearances.

If I was dripping with cash I'd buy those Goldies and that slapping Green Hornet. The fickleness is real and I don't understand. I have a really nice lot of higher mid grade New Funnies and Classics Illustrated that have little comparative value. I didn't pay much for them but, boy, are they beautiful books to look at. Plus I love trying to imagine it being some small kid scraping together a dime to go up to the corner store to grab the book they cannot wait to get. It's easy to forget that when kids were buying these back then they could hardly afford to get more than a couple of books and that book got read over and over again because there was so little "entertainment" available. They're also thrilling in their simplicity. Mostly, that is. But, yeah, holding onto an 80-year-old comic that was never meant to survive the month it came out just gives me all of the warm feelings. But I feel that way about a lot of old things.

Stevens was the modern day Matt Baker, but more about the ass and less about the hair. 😂 The census count for Jungle Comics #1 (my favorite Stevens cover) is surprisingly low compared to others of his from the same era.

Marvel did aquire the golden age Ghost Rider and published some books under the title. I am more surprised for how much the Marvel Golden Age version of Ghost Rider no. 1 goes for in comparison to the original ME version. Did marvel ever do any crossover with the two characters?

Question, and you may have addressed this in a previous video and I just missed it. As a collector and seller, what is your opinion on celebrity signings on comics, like an official movie adaptation of the 1989 batman movie signed by Michael Keaton or a Wolverine comic signed by Hugh Jackman. Is that something you would recommend or pass unless you just personally want it?
