Impressions of Covalima, Timor-Leste
Impressions of my time travelling to (by road), from (by air), and around (by bumpy road!) Covalima, a municipality on the south west coast of Timor-Leste. I explored the main city of Suai, and visited the remote sucos of Fatumea and Fatululic, well off the tourist trail (as I was there supporting a local NGO). I also enjoyed a scenic flight back from Suai to Dili that ends the video.

So glad to see how far Suai has come since I was there last in 2000, blown away by the airport there, it was no more than a runway and basically a tin shed, look at it now. Well done everyone.

The video lighting ... wouuu...so bright. Suai... Hmmm, I worked there from 1993 - 1996. I never have a chance to visit Fatumean & Fatululik. Any way greeting from lake Victoria Entebbe Uganda.

I did 2 UN Peacekeeping Tours of Duty in East Timor. In 2004 I spent 6 months based in Suai at our based on the beach front. I am pleased to see the Church has been finished. It was a mess when we were there and I have photos of bullet holes in the walls. The airport looks impressive. When we were there it was run a run down strip with cows wandering all over and the buildings were ruins. The countryside does look amazing from the air, we saw it from helicopters a lot as we travelled about the region.

Timor-Leste is definitely making progress. Lots of places (Gleno, Atsabe, Becora, Hatu Builico) to name a few have finished large new churches in the past few years. The roads need work but I suspect they're a lot better than when you were here...
