    Do this simple test which may tell you if you are allergic to dandelions: rub a dandelion flower on a small area on the inside of your wrist. The sensitive skin should start itching and /or become red if you are allergic. Even if this test doesn't show any allergy but the skin between your fingers starts itching while picking the flowers or later while handling them for your dish, it's still a sign of an allergy.

    *Would this be a test one could use for any plant?*

  • @GARDENING_foraging

    @GARDENING_foraging

    Жыл бұрын

    @@my_flippin_journey most likely yes, as most plants cause allergies with pollen or the tiny hairs on the leaves/stems. If an allergy is caused by some plant chemical, rubbing the leaves on the skin should cause the reaction. The skin between fingers is quite thin and sensitive so it'll react to smaller amounts of allergens.

One day I was walking and didn’t have a cigarette, so I carelessly grabbed a weed from the side of the railroad tracks and began chewing it. Turns out it was poison hemlock. It messed my kidneys up pretty badly which was very painful.. probably almost killed me. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake! Cheers everyone! 😁

  • @GARDENING_foraging

    @GARDENING_foraging

    2 ай бұрын

    Depends where you live. In the US most public places, like parks, around playgrounds, etc are treated with pesticides. But, if there are lots of different weeds, then there's a high chance that this place is not sprayed. Some herbicides stay in the soil for months, so if an area was sprayed even the year before there will only be occasional weeds.

    Not from a book, but from my script that I wrote, after lots of research on them.

    Cat's ears grow much taller and the stems of the flowers are different. I think they grow more than one flower per stem whereas dandelion grows one flower per stem and the stems are hollow.

    @@stephenbarnes9196 you can eat the flower. Just make sure you are not allergic to it as flowers are more likely to cause allergy than greens.

    Id wash it really well and maybe even give it a soda bath (water with a teaspoon of soda for 15 min). We really dont know what animals peed/walked/rubbed off of wild plants when we dont see them...

    Yes, dog pee is good, you should train your dog to pee on them, and I wouldn't wash it off because when the pee interacts with the dandelions, it make the benefits twice as good.
