Import Pre-built LEGO Sets to Studio [OLD VERSION]

[February 2024 UPDATE: two newer options for downloading sets]
• Import Assembled Sets ...
After looking at a method of importing complete pre-built sets to LDD, Nathan tackles the same task on the Studio digital building platform. Studio models are edited as a different filetype, so a different resource is needed to accomplish the function.
Just such a resource can, in part, be found on the AFOL website created by Pascal Parent. At one point, all of his projects could be viewed as a list, but now it seems that you can only access one at a time via the dropdown menu on the homepage. The remaining IO files are a labor of love and have been made available to the community here: www.pascalsbricks.co.za/
Thanks to Pascal for this work, give his site a visit and check out his other content beyond the helpful studio files.

Are you able to find pieces by their code? And if so, how?

Yep, there is a search bar by the parts palette. You can search by keyword or directly type in the part ID. In my layout it is in the middle part of the left side of the screen.

Can you order the set, like say an expensive modular, through studio?

  • @BrickSystemBros

Short answer is no, but there are some tools built into Bricklink that make it less of a chore, especilly for custom designs. If you're looking for a set just keep an eye on eBay and Bricklink, going through Studio doesn't make any sense if there is already a listing for the set you want. On the other hand if you have a MOC, or even made some modifications to a set with extra pieces that you want to buy, there is a way to export all the pieces to a wanted list. With a wanted list you can see the best combination of orders to actually buy those parts. It can get expensive.

@@BrickSystemBros Thanks for the quick response. But modulars and sets that are super expensive after resell, can't be built in studio? If I bought like the palace cinema pieces from studio and then built it, wouldn't that be cheaper than buying the whole set for aftermarket price?

@@cobaltblue1010 Ah I see, yeah that's called "parting out" a set and it can save you some money in the long run. Many times the Modular buildings contain exclusive pieces that bring the price up even on Bricklink. Another trick, especially for older Modulars, is to use slightly different parts from the original. There are lots of videos of people doing this for Cafe Corner because even just the original pieces can add up to $800. Just search "How to build Cafe Corner Cheap" and you'll find some advice.

@@tallietorchersproductions2740 Just gave it a shot, looks like Studio parts library doesn't have the sails, vinyl flags, and a few minor accessories. Maybe a total of 18 parts out of 1150, are you just wanting to build the set in Studio or do you need the entire inventory for something specific?
