Trump wants to build a wall, but I want state governors to build a wall around D.C. That way, politicians can't get out and bother the rest of us. If they are as smart as they think they are, then they can turn D.C. into a utopian success and inspire the rest of us to follow their edicts VOLUNTARILY. I will lay the first brick right after I become governor.

25 years ago in Seattle at the production company I was working for - the United Way had a fund raising in the meeting room - in the corner of the room stood the plant manager - staring straight at employees - a United Way employee then gave us a pre filled "donation" form already filled out with my name on it (no joke !) - then after the spiel - United Way staff stood on both sides of the door to take "donations" as we tried to leave . . . I saw the obvious (mafia style) shake down at the main exit so I tried to leave through the emergency exit door - a female employee of the United Way saw me walking toward the door and (to my amazement) blocked the emergency door - then she said "this is not a exit" (right above her head was the big red EXIT sign) as I walked around her I said "yes it is" (pointed towards the sign) then left . . . That was 25 years ago and I remember it Iike it happened yesterday - I always thought just how odd it was the connection between the Teamsters & United Way - it really looked like a mafia shake down . . . In my opinion non-profit is code word for organized crime . . . 👋🇵🇹

You're a bit of the mark there. A politicians job is to win the next election, which can only be done by serving the interests of the people who voted them in. Usually this means spending more on their constituency than they raise in taxes and doing just enough to keep the people who reliably vote for them onside. If the constituents and people who contribute to their campaigns are a bunch of people who want hand outs and special favours, then don't be surprised when you get the type of politicians we have now.

Reminds me of when teachers say they don't do it for the money, but public school teachers often earn more than those in the private sector. In contrast, private sector charities have many volunteers who receive no compensation, including people who teach, tutor, or coach. Pretty obvious which ones are actually serving their community.

I said private charities not private schools. There are several groups that help kids with after school activities for free, there are others that help with education abroad for free, and there are often people who are willing to help in places of fellowship, such as churches, that teach, tutor, counsel, etc. for free. Many parochial school teachers get paid only around 30 thousand starting compared, but they do it to help support children receiving educations in both academia and spirituality.

Politics offers wealth and power that we could only dream of. Then there's the implication that private industry is not serving the public. ObesePuppies just curious. All the government waste and corruption of our tax dollars seems like something the left, right , and anywhere in between could come together on to demand change. It sounds like your being played by the left elites. Screw the left and right and hold them all accountable for their corruption against us who pay for it. Both parties have been playing the game together for a long time. When you open your mind you’ll see that. I say left and right citizens can come together and fight the machine. That’s their worst fear.

Thanks for doing this. Too few people really understand the basic evil of big government. That being, all that money provides just too much opportunity and temptation for corruption and graft, and once it takes root, it is terribly hard to remove because so many innocents are involved. While some laws and regulations do good by the masses, the majority of them are in one way or another favoring one or hurting another specific party, to someone's advantage. If you are the broker of this power (a lawmaker), you are suddenly also powerful.

As a DC area Realtor, those multi million dollar homes do exist but only the norm in small pockets close to the District or on 5+ acre plots in the burbs. I spent 14 years cussing at Realtors as a top producing Mortgage Banker before becoming one myself. I can tell you there is more hidden wealth in this area than anywhere else in the US. Housing is a lot higher than most other places, in the outlying burbs like Fairfax County (20-35 miles from the District) you’ll pay $500k+ for a 4 bed, 3 bath 3,000 square ft SFR and $400k+ for a nice townhouse.. and No, we are not recession proof, at least not completely. The government does keep us somewhat insulated from the economy of the rest of the nation. If there is a government shutdown the workers get the days off and then when the government is funded...they all get paid for the days they stayed home. Hell, half the people you meet when asked “So what do you do for a living?” usually get the reply “I work for the government”. “Awesome, what do you do, which agency do you work for?” “Oh, I work for the government”... When they can’t tell you who they work for and for VOE (verification of employment) they would give you a phone number to call. A normal VOE is in writing, this was verbal only and instead of the employer giving you their info... they would only verify the info you had on the application. Very weird doing those loans for spooks.

This is an outrage for sure. However, do you know what is even MORE outrageous? It is the fact that the public and media in this country don't seem to care one bit! When this excess is shown, they continue to support it. It's like leading lambs to the slaughter, that's all. I'm very grateful for John Stossel for opening my heart and mind to Libertarian philosophy! Keep up the good work, my good man!

A few years back, I did contract work for a country. They had a rule that 7% of what they pay you is automatically taken out of whatever they pay you and goes into the county employee retirement fund (or so they claim) even if you don't work for the county. That's anyone who does any work and gets a check from the county has to pay into that fund even though you will never see a cent of it. Looking back on those fulltime county employees I've met, they are some of the most lazy and inept people I've ever met. And I found out that it had previously taken them a year to do what I did in 3 weeks; they hired me because they never actually got it done. So the taxpayers of the county paid for the county employees' salary all that time for nothing and then paid 93% of my services for 3 weeks while the same county employees who did nothing got extra money (taxpayer money) for their retirement fund.

This scam has been going since man first stepped out of the cave. One caveman said ‘ I’ll protect you! If you give me your food, your best rocks, and a cave nearby to live in. But in order to protect you, and because it’s a dangerous job I’ll need extra food to get strong, the biggest and hardest rocks to make weapons, and the best placed and biggest cave to store it all in. And because it’s a big responsibility and I’m doing it for your safety! That cave will need to have a good view. So it’ll have to be nearby to protect you, but away enough that I have time to myself to recover from my exertions, and above you so that I get a good view to protect you. And then because the big cave I need, with the best view, filled with the best food, best rocks, is above you on the mountain, and because I’m looking after you, I’ll need someone to carry the food and best rocks up there. Because I need my energy to look after you. So I’ll need another cave nearby, filled with my food and best rocks, that someone will live in, and carry my stuff to the cave with the best view, that I live in to protect you all, when I need it. And thats how it started. 40,000 years later you get dictatorship and the caveman with the best cave, the best food, the best rocks, servants and caves with views, has gone from protector to tyrant. And if you don’t do what he says he’ll kill you.
