The name "Russia" was originally "Land if the Russ." This original name comes from the Vikings that traversed the rivers deep into the continent. So it makes sense for a Russian faction to have some Nordic influences to it.

My personal headcannon is that they derive more from the Finnish in the winter and continuation wars against Russia. A war in which the much smaller Finnish army fought a guerrilla war in a climate SO COLD IT WAS A PROBLEM FOR THE RUSSIANS.

Ciaphas Cain was funny enough my first genuine exposure to Warhammer, I was looking around on different wiki's and saw a picture of the book cover and got interested in the series. The rest is history, im so happy they're doing the audiobooks for his series! In the future it would be cool if you did a character analysis on him as well.

Great video, mate! I’m really glad that you’ve given a lot of attention to the different “Regiments of Renown-40K Edition” (hahaha). I never paid too much attention to the Imperial Guard, not because I didn’t like them, but there’s such a huge amount of lore that it’s difficult to learn about everything all at once without something cool being overlooked. Not like the stupid Tau- I’m not even kidding, I dislike them so much that I completely ignore them, and pretend that they don’t exist. I collect and have codices from every different faction in 40K, from all different editions- but I don’t have a single Tau codex, nor a single Tau miniature. They don’t fit in with the aesthetic that I prefer in my own personal vision of 40K- I’m certainly not saying that I don’t think that other people shouldn’t enjoy them- they’re of course free to like whatever they want! Just, for me, they don’t exist. Anyway- sorry! I have gone off on a bit of a tangent- but yeah, really enjoyed the video! I’m learning things that I didn’t previously know about the Guard, so thanks for that. And if I didn’t mention it after your last vid, have a great Holiday Season, and I hope that the New Year brings you good health, prosperity, and continuing success with your channel- it’s definitely one of my absolute favorites, and you’re a great host and a great friend. All my best, man-

I actually like Tau because I grew up watching Gundam Wing, but they've really changed the way their armies aesthetic/gameplay since its first inception and now I'm pretty... MEH.. To my eye, the Valhallans look very Finnish from the Winter war. You see, the russians used more browns and tans in their uniforms, while the finns used grey and white. Other than that, the gear was mostly the same on both sides, finland using the "captured" and improved versions of the russian weapons and tanks. And since Finland is arguably a part of the Fennoscandinavia it is safe to say (in my mind atleast) that the Valhallans represent more finns than russians, even tactics wise, russians were many and undisciplined, finns the complete opposite.
