This just came up for free on PlayStation Plus, and I jumped right in, sight unseen. I totally fell in love with this game. Yes; some battles were brutal, but I played on. over 15 hours later, and I'm still playing through, excite for what's around the next corner.

this game being good is far more surprising than redfall being bad

Nah....you could see the signs that Redfall was gonna be bad. No marketing showing the game in the lead upto release, closed door preview only for people who review favorably for MS, the IGN gameplay preview which showed the wonky AI and disjoint gameplay structure.....literally the only thing that could have led any one looking to believe that Redfall was going to be good was the CGI announcement trailer and even that wasn't particularly appealing but was at least not horrible.

This game reminds me of Lichdome Battlemage, but corrects everything that was wrong with it and improves it.

Literally what I thought. Lichdom was a terrible game, but a beautiful blueprint. This playstyle evolved into Ghostwire Tokyo, and forspoken tho forspoken was terrible for other reasons. I'm hoping this game takes mage play to its rightful place

I played several hours of Lichdom Battlemage too. Based on what was shown so far with this review, Aveum doesn't seem to have much depth to it. Good graphics and fancy effects isn't everything, the devs need to add a variety of damage types and in-depth mechanics to peak my interest. To be fair, maybe those elements are in the game but Codiak hasn't shown us it yet.

Very much so.. I also feel it was very forspoken. I played the demo and the character was so bland. Aveum has beautiful landscape, but all depends on combat. Hopefully one day we can get creative combat and a storyline that doesn't seem rehashed and reused, without character development

Ah I was wondering about this game. Came here looking for your review on it. Glad to hear positivity about it. Trailer on Steam looked good but I wanted to hear more detail.

When you were explaining that most people can only use red, blue, or green, I thought you said “but Jack is a tryhard so he can use all three”

I am a fan of Gina Torres and when I saw her in it I was REALLY hoping the game would be good. It seems like it is. Can't wait to play!

Blue magic = Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles Red magic = Shotguns, flame throwers Green magic = LMG and Launchers. Honestly I wasn't interested in the slightest, but after your review I will check it out after a considerable price drop.

I wasn't feeling it at first..but then I upped the difficulty to hard and really got used to the controls and forced myself to try to use all of the tools. Now I'm about halfway through and it's freaking fantastic. The combat is ridiculously good if you use everything they give you. They definitely give you a ton of magic and there are an insane amount of controls. I can see some people not enjoying that or just not engaging with all of it. It got infinitely better on the hard difficulty.

Fun Build for the Game: If you focus heavy on the center trees for both Blue and Green, and then have your equipment prioritize blink cooldown and charges. You can remove the movement penalty from the shield, make it invincible for 1 second after activation, and have blink reset the cooldown and recover 20% of your shield. When your shield breaks the game slows down time and gives you a brief period of invincibility. If you are not firing the Green Sigil (green sigils require 'concertation' and will consume your blink charges while firing it but not actually activate your blink) then during that slowdown, you can blink and pull back up your shield. With fully upgraded purples (first playthrough) your blink will recover it's spent charge shortly after time goes back to normal and before the invincibility of the shield drops, and thus you are a god. With this build you will only ever die in a fight if you screw up the timing. You can also have it to where the shield recovers 25% of the damage it takes as your health.

I love this game. It is one of the few games I have found that actually rewards me for exploring. They will tell you "go{here}" and I stg every single time there is like 20 things you can do before you go there. I am level 30 and haven't started chapter 8 yet.

What would you estimate is the length of the game (with the side quests but not necessarily grabbing every collectible)? 12 hours? 20? 40?

if not using "quality" mode on ps5 to give yourself a headache at 30fps then this is a 720p game upscaled using TSR to 1440p, that's Sony's reason for a ps5 pro

Everyone has been complaining about the particle effects and visibility during combat from the second anyone got their hands on the game. But seems they ignored everyone. Guess they're too busy showing off UE5 or the art director's ego won't let them dial back on the vfx. Too bad.

is there an endgame? or postgame content?

Im having a good time with this game so far.

This game wasn’t on my radar at all until just now. It’s a shame there’s remnant right now, armored core and bg3 on ps5 right around the corner. It’s hard to justify buying this to play for three days.

I have been having fun with the game. The only thing that has really bothered me is the graphics, playing on Xbox series x. A lot of the times it looks like the game is just a bit out of focus, and sometimes too bright.

For anyone one who gets p'd at not being able to do something early game... "oh i can't get there" blah blah... be patient!!!! You might not get it the first time... but... no spoilers... wait... be patient... You will get it all!!!

Great game. I was surprised to like the combat so much. Visuals and music are bomb. Characters and stories are good. Hope they make a sequel

Looks very good , but will have a difficult life with Remnant 2, Lies of P , Armored core 6 and Starfield around

I'm playing this game now for the first time I wish you could save your progress incase you get in trouble and need to jump to a previous save I'm stuck on a boss battle that I wish I was built better for and I'm only %58 in the game

I’ve played only the first first few chapters so far but I’m enjoying it. Is it worth the $70. I don’t think so (I bought it on sale) but I think a lot of the “it’s boring” comes to a matter of opinion. 2 things I think did hurt this game with sales is I’ll admit other than shooting magic instead of guns it is very familiar and by the numbers. So I can understand many not being interested unless the world itself grabs their attention. Second it was released around more hyped and better marketed games. Oh and I gues the price is the third thing. It sucks because as a solid single player shooter for me it’s enjoyable but then again many games in the past that didn’t do well in sales such as singularity, timeshift, dark sector even the first dragons dogma when it initially launches were all enjoyable games to me that while maybe not worth the initial launch price I still felt were decent games especially for breaks between 40-100 hr open world and Japan or wearer, RPGs. For me it sucks for devs cause it’s clear they put a lot of care into this it’s just not very original and $70 for a linear shooter in todays market never mind what it released against I can understand many putting down on their mental list of games to get when they do have rhe budget. I can see how some think it is boring too. For me what I play really comes down to what I’m in the mood to play I can’t say if I’m in the mood to play something like devil may cry 5 this wouldn’t be boring to me too. Hopefully it gains a cult following or a chance at redemption one day cause there is more good than boring imo but I also hope despite the layoffs ascendant studios gets another chance to develope a game. Maybe a lower budget one. I always believe devs deserve a second chance (unless it’s a game like gollum lol then at least management should not lol) but there is a solid foundation and level of care here that those devs deserve a second shot in my opinion. All these layoffs today in general suck. For the record I also have evil west witch I love but even that I bought at $60 and I admit it didn’t feel like a $60 game. Guess I have a weird take on things idk. Lol either way for those still interested in immortal of aveum and enjoy fps shooter and sci-fi fantasy I recommend checking this out. I know it came for free with ps plus this month for ps5 and Xbox I got it on sale for $28 but even if it’s not on sale there is a trial on Xbox for the first 3 chapters that carry over progress and at least for me I got the option to buy the deluxe edition for $36 getting to the end of it and it is worth that imo I would t pay more Than $50 though and that’s just me stretching it cause I do like this game.

I was out as soon as I saw the grindfest equipment.

I wish this game could have come out back in July. With BG3 taking over all of my free time and Starfield right around the corner, this game is automatically added to the “Wait for a deep discount” list. Looks interesting and I’ll get to it as some point, but it’s basically on my Steam wish list until it hits $20 or less.

The game is ok but it’s definitely not a showcase of the unreal engine as they promised , the story is also full of some ridiculous holes & combat is fun but needs work for sure . I wish I had not pre-ordered it .

Yes the 6 boss battles are unique. And much harder than the normal content...

welp checked the minimum required specs and yea my current pc doesnt have a hope in hell in trying to run that

i was kinda scared of that high req(i got 6950xt for 4k - below recommended), but i bough it despite of that, i set everything for high with fsr and dont dropping below 70 fps at worst cases and game is very fluid

Trend is to hate on games or review them on release having barely played them, either intentionally or due to lack of time. We always do our reviews after fully beating the game and simply say if we personally enjoyed it or not. I think a lot of people forget that a review is not only subjective to a reviewer's taste, but a game doesn't have to be GOTY material to just be a good game.

I was interested till i saw first person combat

Never been a fan of 1st person shooter. But this game has got me into it. Over all it’s a good game not great but good. Difficult for sure.

I’m not questioning the integrity of this page because I do agree with a lot of your reviews, but this game was given to you for free and most other reviewer‘s are saying it’s mid to mediocre at best. You’re one of the only wants to give it a huge glowing review, for one of the guy be positive about the game but even he gave some pretty reasonable negatives but when someone buys the game it’s a little hard to believe them

We were really hard on Redfall when embargos went live, and that was also given to us for free, just like every single review copy provided to any reviewer/journalist. We also encourage people to watch multiple reviews from various points of view, because reviews are largely opinions. That all being said, we enjoyed the game, but it isn't anything revolutionary. That doesn't mean it isn't a good game. Pretty sure even Skillup recommended it.

Call of duty with sorcery

Game has severe performance issues for some people. The recommended specs are like top of the line parts that released recently, anything less chugs along. No reason for a game that looks like this to require a 4090 to get 120fps. Something, somewhere, is horribly optimized.

Subscribed on account that this guy gave this game a fair and independent view on the game instead of jumping on the bandwagon of others and crying it down, because that’s the thing to do apparently. Plus it helps that Codiak has a cool name and is fit ❤

That's what we try to do here. We're not on the "hate dogpile" mentality. People expect every game to be GOTY material, and when it isn't, it's endlessly trashed on and games have so much more nuance than that. It's ok to be an average or above average game.

might be good..but with all those great games (Remnant, Armored core, lies of P, Lords of fallen)...an EA being attached to this, i see 0 reason to get this..

Honestly no matter what EA promises, after the dumpster fires that were BF1 to BF2042 I'm not going to buy anything made or published by them. I am done wasting my money on broken promises.

“With so many recent AAA flops”….. that has to be the worst line I’ve encountered in any Legacy Gaming review. This is probably the single greatest year in gaming history (and there are still 4 of the biggest months left) and I’m having trouble thinking of 1 AAA Flop recently. Great review otherwise and I’ll be downloading this tomorrow.

Insanely busy game. I can appreciate what they went for but can't help but feel like this would've been better as a third person game.

This game was not good at all. What is the point of using UE5 when the game runs horribly on top of the line hardware. The game failed so hard 45 percent of devs got laid off a few days ago. The game was estimated to have sold 30k copies.....on all platforms. The marvel wannabe dialogue is so embarrassing, why do writers do this.
