So amazingly, as dumb as that press check looks, it is based on an old legit technique some WWII veteran taught. It was unique to the 1911 and you would use your thumb inside the trigger guard and your index finger just below the barrel and then essentially pinch. I think that’s what Steven was trying to do but he clearly executed it poorly. Plus, as you said, it’s obviously a prop gun with how easily he manipulated the slide backwards adding to the cringe. If you want to see it done correctly, Al Pacino does it in Heat.
