Fantastic detail and explanation.

I assume the battery is a standard 3S LiPo, in which case each cell is 5200mAh, not 1733.33...mAh, you don't divide the capacity by number of cells to get a cell's capacity, unless it's a 3P battery. The batteries are labeled by their per cell capacity, and then the cell count to get a preferred voltage (1S = 4.2V, 2S = 8.4V, 3S=12.6V and so on). If you take your battery apart and put the cells in parallel (the 3P battery), you'd then get 15600mAh battery that outputs 4.2V (fully charged). So the correct calculations are 5200/700 = 7 hours and 26 minutes for the B3 charger to charge a 2 or 3 cell (2S/3S) 5200mAh battery.

Hi, Yes each cell has 5200mAh battery is in a 3S 5200mAh battery. the 3S battery is connected in series but each cell is charged individually and they need current. The charger is rated at 700mA. This is the total current it supply from charger so we have to divide it in order to find the time. The 700mA rate of charge is not per cell. I have charged 2200mAh and 5200mAh and it was proven to be correct.

@@robojax that is not correct. The charger charges a single cell at 700mA. What the 3x means is it can provide the 700mA over all three cells it's connected to simultaneously but it doesn't charge one cell at 2100mA. Messure it yourself if you can, or ask an engineer. Charging 2200mAh battery with the B3 charger will take just over 3 hours. If you get less, it's because you havent charged the battery from 0% to 100%. The LiPo discharge rule is to discharge about 80% which in voltage means to about 3.5-3.8V. This means to get to full again, it doesn't need the full 2200mAh. It could also be that the charger gives more amps than rated, but what I said still applies: charging 5200mAh with the B3 charger no matter if its 2S or 3S, it still takes over 7h.

You just answered it "doesn't charge one cell at 2100mA" yes true. so it charge over all three with 700mA. That is what I am saying. if it charges at 700mA exits from charger at any moments, then you can find the total time/hour until the battery is full. I have taken energy storage course at graduate level and practically I have charged my battery.

​@@robojax I think there is some misunderstanding here since I've read your replies to comments where you've done the calculations correctly. In your video you did not - which is what I am trying to tell you. The B3 charger charges one cell at 700mA, 4.2-4.25V. It doesn't matter if you've connected 2S or 3S. As you yourself have commented, the charge time is always [cell capacity]/700mA=[hours to fully charged]. But then you said "The 700mA rate of charge is not per cell" - while in fact, it is. Each cell in a 3S 5200mAh battery is 5200mAh. And in your video you divide the 5200mAh battery capacity by three leaving 1733mAh per cell, which is completely false. Charging 5200mAh at a rate of 700mA takes 7.42 hours and not 2.5 hours as you claimed in your video. But then in your comments you've said that it takes 7.5 hours?? Very confusing. But I'm sticking to the errors in the video since that's what people will see mostly. It doesn't matter what courses you've taken, I'm trying to teach you something so you won't spread false information in the future of your videos. I think it's great what you've created - I'm just pointing out a few errors.

Olli Akokari is correct. The 3x700mA is a true, but misleading statement from the manufacturer. This charger has 3 independent chargers inside for each battery, and each charger supplies 700mA to the battery it is connected to. So you need more than 7 hours to charge the 5200mAh battery. Thank you for the video though.

Bro in my case 2 cells are balanced and last one is not balanced so questions arises in my mind my charger won't stop charging other 2 cell which are fully charged now and last cell always keeps on hanging on 3.85 like that so what happens is that when I had put my battery in storage mode other 2 cells were at 3.7 something and last cell was not 3.7 and like 3.3 and after some times I found out last cell is heavily puffed so I punched battery and removed excess gas and sealed it back and now same problem that charger won't stop charging 2 cell together I had seen only 1 red light and other cell keep over charging this charger is dumb am I right ? Sir. I'd been charged well but one day when I tried to charge, battery connector wire had getting hot and got smoke on 2s and 3s balance port and little burnt on battery connector, 2s 3s balance port both. What was the cause of this?

Greetings, I have one, it worked good at first but later on it went all green lights with flashing background red and all green when I connect the Battery (used it about 40 minutes). So when all green lights are flashing with a little red on the background means the charger it’s bad? Does not detect that the battery needs to be charged but it charges it?

Greetings. This charger will charge only if the battery needs charge. the color of the LEds have been in the video and I don't remember anything about it now. Unless I watch it. So you watch it then.

Hey. When connecting the battery plug to the charger, I accidentally reversed it for a second. Only the left led is showing red and others are not glowing. When I connect the charger the left led shows up for a second and then it gets off. When I connected my battery to my pcb(APM 2.8) the battery is showing 8.17v and the percentage rapidly decreases even when I didn't connect any motors in it. Is my battery damaged or my charger (b3 lipo)is damaged. My battery is 3 cell 11.1 V lipo battery.

Can you please tell me why my charger (this charger) will initially start charging but then when I come back after a few hours, the three green lights flash rapidly and my battery is dead?

interesting. You have to use a multimeter to measure the voltage, then you would know. Very rarely it is possible that the charger might be bad.

My 2200 mah battery was charged from 11.3 to 12.5 volts in about 3 hrs .is it normal? And the charger gets quite hot while charging.

Yes it is normal. The charger supplies 700mAh and 2000 ÷ 700=3.1 hours. I don't know how hot. But make sure NOT to charge in living area. Put the charger and battery always on non-flammable material like concrete or metal and in garage or specially designed bags.

Hello , nice video. I have a question if you dont mind. I charged three batteries of my drone (Hubsan Zino).The unusual thing is that the middle led stays always red and when i plug all of them on my drone it shows me the battery percent as N/A instead of power percentange! Why is this happening?

Hi. There might be an issue with one of your cells in your battery. Check for a voltage checker online and find the proper voltage. If each cell is well above 3.1v then this might be problem with your charger.

I have Li-Ion phone batteries which have different mAh (1500mAh and 1800mAh) but same voltage. so can I connect these 2 batteries in series and can I connect balance charger to charge it. Please help!

Hi, it seems you battery is not holding charge. do you charge it for 3 to 4 hours? if not then do it and use proper charger. this b3 will help if your battery is good. battery has life and number of times you can charge it. after a while they become useless.

i have a 3 cell 3300 mah 35c 11.1 v lipo battery.. my second is totally discharged and shows 0v so can i charge that single cell with a B3 imax rc charger? or how should i recover the dead battery cell , i only have the B3 imax rc charger with me.

you can't change a battery or a cell that has voltage below 3.2V. the charger will not charge it. the battery should not be 0V.. when you use it, you should never allow the voltage to go below 3.2V or less or more depending on manufacturer specs. So the battery should be dead. but if you think to revive it, apply 4.2V to each cell from a power supply and limit the current to like 500mA. Higher current might cause fire. Allow it for half hour. After that if the voltage stayed, then you can connect it to the charger.

I have a question if you can answer it I would be grateful so I have a similar charger like this where the lights are green till you plug something in so I have a 3s battery 5200 mah and when I plugged it in the first time all the lights were red then after about 30 min the 3s light turned green then now whenever I plug it in the 3s light is always green what’s going on?

That is fine. Your battery does not need charge. Use it and empty the batter so it can be charged.

the charger will keep charging till the all cells have reached their max voltage. the max voltage for a typical cell is 4.2v, so in total a 3s battery will be 12.6v when the charger turns off. if ur battery peaks at 12v, then each cell is maxxed at 4v. the charger will continue to try and charge it thinking it will eventually reach the desired 12.6v. but it won't. idk tho rlly. im confused y ur battery is at "almost 12v" when it should be at 12.6v when fully charged. my 18650 cells r charged till 4.2v

Red light should be ON and not blinking.Check the voltage of each cell of battery either with multimeter or with this images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/618Ltxfca0L._SX355_.jpg . Either ONE cell (the one which makes charger RED) needs charge and other cells are full . If the all cells have almost the same voltage, then the charger is bad. If the voltages are different, then the battery is bad.

I have a battery that was left into my rifle and it was did I guess and when I plug it in only the 3rd light shows green and nothing changes i don’t know what’s wrong

If the voltage of a loop battery goes below 3.2 or 3 voltes , the charger will not charge it assuming it is dead. So first wait for a few hours . If charge doesn’t start then charge I individually by connecting 4.2V with constant current or maximum 1C. 1C means 1 capacity of the battery. Of your battery is 2000mAh then 1C is 2000mA. In a few minutes measure the voltage of the cell , if it is not dead it should be above 3v . Then the charger will charge it.

I just got one of these chargers the other day, but it puts out 3*800mah... would that be too much current for a 3s 300mah lipo?

If you got one connector for all of them you can change them. Connecting 3 battery bin parallel will increase the capacity ans consequently it will take longer time to charge.

it could be the battery or the charger. this charger wont' do it. You might try to get the JST-XH cable for 3S battery, connect it to charger and connect only 2 wire of that to your 1S and see if it can be charged. www.ebay.ca/itm/112595277459

it means other cells are full and it is charging cell 1. You have to wait a little longer. If it doesn't go off after longer period of time like 2 hours or more, then battery or charger must be bad. I will not know for sure. Either the battery or the charger. You can connect another battery and check or use a multimeter to check each voltage of the cells.

@@paolodulayshooting those chargers aren't exactly too reliable. It is common, that after a while one channel just doesn't charge. Your case looks like exactly that happened.

My battery is 14.4V and has 3 cells (3 X 4.8V) and it is ni-cd..... so will it work..... please just say yes or no..... thank you

Hello, I have what may be a dumb question. The charger lists the “max charge current” as 3*800mA. If I have a 5200 mAh 2S battery, does it take 5200/800 = 6.5 hours or 5200/(3*800) = 2.16 hours to fully charge?

2200÷500=4.4 hours you may wait for a little longer. I am assuming the charge current for this charger id 500mA as I've forgotten the number. Sometimes a cell gets damaged or the charger. The only way to know is to charge another batter to find out.

I believe I've shown that. 4 pins means we have 3 cells. 3 wires for 3 cells and 1 wire for ground or negative. if battery has 2 cells, then we have 3 wires.

yes. That is what charger does. If it doesn't stop, the battery gets damaged. When you connect battery, the lights get Red and when fully charged, the LED for each cell will go green.

some time cells do not charge at the same rate. but sometimes one cell get damaged. if the light doesn't change, then something is wrong. most probably the battery is bad but also possible the charger gets damaged. so if you have multimeter, check the voltage of each cell and see if one is damaged (low voltage). see this video to learn about each cells and wiring kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZuXkqdwnpTQl6w.html

I have explained that this charger is for 2S and 3S (3 cell). each cell is 3.7. Sor 3.7x4-14.8V so 14.8V is 3S and the same way you can calculate to see how many cells you have. Also 3S has 4 wires and 4S battery has 5 wires.

You can charge 1 battery in 3 hours but if you connect 2 battery, it will take 6 hours. If you want then get parallel adapter.

It is balanced charger meaning it charges independently each cell and start or stop the current accordingly.

i have the same charger, mine is shit, i gives different indication each time i reconnet the battery, for example i connect a used battery it shows all lights red, they never go green, i test the battery with a multimeter and it is fully charged, then i connect the battery to the charger and it shows full charged, i disconnect the battery, reconnect it and it shows not charged again, and so on :P

this charger can charger at 700mAh so divide 1700mAh ÷ 500mAh and it will give you the time in hour.

What if it us flashes red and green

Will the charger turn off once it is done charging?

yes it does. It will go solid green. Solid green means no current goes to battery. That's why when battery is not connected, it is all solid green.

2200 ÷ 700 =3.1, so it should be 3.1 hours. Yes the charger could be bad if the battery is okay.

I plugged my 11v battery in upside down, it started smoking and is now stuck on the right red, help

yes you can. 5200÷700=7.4a so it will take 7.5 hours.

25C means this battery can supply 25A constant (C) and has nothing to to with charging. yes it can. I have shown and explained in video. This charger can charge at 700mA or 750mAh (I forgot, you watch the video to find out) so 2200mAh ÷ 750mA=2.9H so it will charge it in about 3 hours.

I think its wrong. If the lipo is 5s and rated at 5200mah it will fill at 7 hours. If the balancer can output 700mah. If the battery is on series. The voltage increase. But if it is on parrallel the mah/Ah increase. Which in the case of lipo it is configure as series.

The series and parallel doesn't matter. it is the total capacity that matters. We are feeding 700mAh to fill one battery of 5200mAh . If we charge 2 batteries of 2600mAh connected in parallel, then 2600+2600=5200mAh.

No. it is always the total capacity. The charger can supply in total (for example) 700mAh. You can feed it any ways you want.

the capacity of 8000mAh does not matter. this can charge up 700mAh charge. It can charge 2S and 3S which yes it can. But you have to calculate the time, 8000/700= 11.4 hours is the charge time. So if you don't need it quickly this will work in about 12 hours. But for such battery you might need 2000-5000mAh charger to do it quickly like in 2 or 3 hours.

Yes 3000mAh (3A) charger can charge fast. 8000 ÷ 3000= 2.6 hours. Just divide the battery capacity to charger's charge capacity.

yes you can. It can charge any 3S battery. the amount of current this charger provide is 700mA so 4400mAh÷ 700mA = 6.3H so it will take about 6.5 hours to charge your battery.

so it can either charges ONLY one cell or, the LED (light emitting diode) is bad. So leave the battery for charge and then check your battery's each cell. If all cell have charge, then only the LED is bad. If you see all cells are not charged, the the charger is bad.

2 cells are at 4.4 was even higher!!..and 3 was like zero bought a parallel board now buying new charger n batts..smh..im new but its bin a bummer ..so i basicly have all these busted batts ....even if its not swollen are they unsavable?

At 4:18 you plugged the batt in reversed. Black wire should have been to the right side.

the color on JST-XH has no standard. It is a connector that you can't connect incorrectly.

if you need to charge your battery and im very serious pull the car up and down a road and it slightly charges it 3 seconds of drive worth

No. when you read 5200mAh, it is the total capacity of battery. Drone of RC car doesn't draw current from each cell rather from just 2 wires. it is the charge wires to the individual cells that get separate voltage and current and that is to be able to chemically charge each cell based on it's own condition.

@@robojax each cell has indeed 5200mAh, but rating at voltage of one cell (3,7V nominal). In serial stack You do not add the capacity, you add the voltage. The 3S packet consisting of 3 cells, each with capacity of 5200mAh still results in 5200mAh, but at 11,4V nominal voltage . That is why the capacity rating of a whole packet is the same as for one cell. And yes, your calculation is simply "badshitt bananas". The packet (empty) should charge to full in around 7-8 hours. You should learn the basics first, before you try to teach others. I know, archeo digg site. but i just had to.

When i charge my 1 cell and 3 cell turns red but 2 cell did not lit up what does that mean?

it means either battery is dead. but also possible that charger is bad. to make sure, try charging another battery to make sure charger is in good shape.
