The kamāncha or kamancheh is a string instrument played with a variable-tension bow. This instrument, with slight variations in structure is used in Azerbaijani, Armenian, Kurdish, Georgian, Persian, Turkmen, and Uzbek music. The kamancheh is based on the rebab and the Byzantine bowed lyra.
