There were many Christians, Jews, Buddhists, pagans, and non-orthodox Zoroastrians (Mazdakis, etc). It is historically well documented that the Sassanids used to persecute these groups periodically, and that they, along with Zoroastrian mobeds, attempted to impose the orthodox version of Zoroastrianism upon the people. Non-Islamic sources confirm this. Edward Browne, in "The Literary History of Persia", writes: "It is often supposed that the choice offered by the warriors of Islam was between the Qur'an and the sword. This, however, is not the fact, for Magians, as well as Christians and Jews, were permitted to retain their religion, being merely compelled to pay [...] poll-tax; a perfectly just arrangement [...] as non-Muslim subjects [...] were [...] exempt both from military service and from the alms [...]"

seanamico: I beg to differ, Muslims are humans, and on a sidenote, this word denotes a faith, not a nationality. This custom that you cite, which used to be practiced by some Arab tribes, is pre-Islamic, and was totally rejected by Islam; it was not the only custom which the Prophet of Islam (s.a.w.s.) asked the Arabs to mend, and that in turn brilliantly illustrates how Islam cannot be equated to any pre-existing culture, including the Arab.

Holy Qur'an and authentic hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) and the Imams (a.s.), clearly show how Islam is totally opposed to racism. This is historically confirmed, for, as can be verified from any impartial history book, since the early days of Islam, people from all possible nations and tribes joined the Umma through conversion and were welcomed as equals (Africans, Iranians such as Salman Farsi, etc). Such misinterpretations of Muslim history and politics point to phobia.

seanamico: There is no such thing as "typical Arab attitude", such essentialist generalizations are devoid of experimental or theoretical basis. Also, I did not "come up with my own history", but cited, and even quoted, from non-Islamic scholarly sources, which cannot be said of your sweeping but historically erroneous assumptions.

Well, this hadith has been used by many Shia Ulama, and lately even Sayid Ammar Nakshawani. So, if this is good for them, who are you to disrespect it? Also, these hadithes have been transmitted by Ahly Bait Imams, from one to another, so I guess it was good for them also aleyhisallatuweselamu. But, you must be somethign special, so it's not good for you. I guess you know what they didn't knew.

seanamico: That's a lot of hate there, very unfortunate. Actually Islam allows mankind to blossom and to liberate itself from the shackles of materialism, arrogance and injustice. Ask yourself why was Islam openly welcomed by the Iranians (nobody forced it upon them). Based on your comments, I do no think you have consulted and / or correctly assimilated the basic academic publications about Islamic history. Therefore, your vision of Islam appears politically distorted. The Saudi regime does not necessarily represent the ideal practice of Islam. Disliking the Saudi regime does not justify opposition to Islam.

Obviously, you have gotten some highly biased and revisionist "information" from the political sources I was referring to. But I'd warmly invite you to consult the available sources elaborated by historians and scholars: there were no "hundreds of thousands killed by the sword". The Ummayad dynasty was not keen on seeing non-Arabs convert to Islam, and Iranians were allowed to practice their pre-Islamic religions (which were btw not limited to orthodox Zoroastrianism, but very diverse).

Even if you meant to deffamate the Saudis "only", that would still amount to an abusive generalization against a people based on their nationality (or worse, on their supposed "race"), which would still be unambiguously racist.

Now go back, and find in hadith how Muhammad aleyhiselam cried for Husain aleyhiselam, and find hadith where one of his wife transfers hadith about it. Crying about Husain aleyhiselam is sunnat, because Prophet aleyhiselam did it. Before announcing something harram, or kufr, try at least to inform your self about what you give your uninformed opinion. Friendly advice. Also, Prophet alyhiselam said that we wont be true muslims until we love him more, then our selves. Ahly Bayt is part of him.

What a racist remark, given that it discriminates a whole peoples based on their religious confession. You might want to note that racism is, by the way, contrary to the principles professed by Jesus Christ (pbuh).

seanamico: Christianity, Judaism were not insignificant but of utter importance in the region. Holy Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad's (s.a.w.s.) legacy clearly show that Islam rejects racism. Zoroastrianism, just as Islam, cannot be seen through an "ethnic" lense, as there was no religious unity in Iran, with lots of different faiths, from paganism to persecuted, unorthodox Zoroastrian splinter beliefs coexisting. Nor does what you say disprove the findings about Iranians' acceptance of Islam.

seanamico: Your above reply fails to address the proposed scientific findings, and instead focuses on abusive "ethnicization" of history, extrapolation, hearsay and anecdotic rants. To begin with, Islam isn't an human "invention", but rather stems from Divine revelation; plus, sociologically and historically speaking, there is something called universal(ist) religious belief systems, such as Christianity or Islam, which objectively cannot be "ethnicized" given their global reach.
