It takes a lot of courage to expose yourself to a bunch of strangers, But I dont think anyone watching you react to that song has anything but respect for you. On another level your analysis of the lyrics was spot on and then your rant on art in general says a lot of good things about you. To be honest I have seen a lpt of people react to this song and yours was among the best. Loved your analysis.

When you know what the song is about and listen to the ONE TAKE version you will be holding back tears to no avail. Maybe on your own time take a listen and enjoy it. BABYMETAL is Heavy Metal but with mostly positive messages. So most of time will be smiling, but hard for me to smile with this song. Still a great song of course. Thanks for reaction.

The underlying theme that runs through everything that Babymetal does is resilience and hope for a better tomorrow. This song carries that subtext as well. The idea of monochrome and bringing colour to a colourless world is a metaphor for hope and the belief that things can change for the better. This video was filmed at "Babymetal Begins" in April 2023 in Yokohama, Japan. The venue holds around 12,000 people, so that was the crowd size of this show. That's kind of on the small side for a Babymetal headline show in Japan, but the bigger venues in Yokohama were booked by other events that weekend. I was one of a relatively small number of international fans that were lucky enough to be in the crowd for this performance and it was absolutely magical. Su-metal's vocal talents are the reason that Babymetal exists. Kobametal (Babymetal's creator and producer) saw her perform as an 11 year old and could see her potential even at that young age. It inspired him to create a group that combined heavy metal with J-pop with her as the centerpiece, and Babymetal was the result, and they've been doing it for almost 14 years now. Don't be ashamed that great music can make you feel things. That's the whole point of it. Babymetal would be proud that they were able to have that effect on you. When it comes to music, Babymetal have a saying, "Don't think. Feel."

@@ewokkebab1300 Hey Ewok, so I'm going to say you're both probably right. I'll be honest and will say I don't know Vow Wow, but what @ZOmbieman was meaning was that Babymetal revitalized the metal/rock genre in Japan. It was pretty much dead until Babymetal came along and breathed new life into the genre. If not for Babymetal then bands like Bandmaid, Lovebites, Wagakki Band (I might have spelled that one. I have a block with spelling their band name. I ALWAYS forgot if it's 2 k's or 2 g's lol I'm sorry!!), Nemophila, and many others would probably have never been discovered by the west and probably would be as popular even in Japan. So you are probably right about Vow Wow, Japan X is another big Japanese band from back in the day, but they were referring to these days more.

The singer Suzuka Nakamoto is from Nagasaki. We all know what happened there, and their world turned to black and white in an instance. But the town and the people survived the Ragnarok and bloomed into colors, like Suzuka, who now in her turn, is painting our monochrome world with her voice. This is how I like to conceive this particular song.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 Su-metal's voice gets us all the same way (she is the lead vocalist). The whole concept for BABYMETAL was formed around her vocal talents and stage presence in 2010 ... she was 12 years old at the time. The other two girls (Moametal and Momometal and the original third member Yuimetal) are all good singers as well, but Su's voice is a lot more powerful. Yuimetal left the band in 2018 after a 12 month absence because of her poor health. This video was filmed in April 2023, it was Momometal's very first concert as an official member ... Su calling Moametal and Momometal across to her was a very special moment, it was the first time Momometal was called by her metal name. Momometal had actually been supporting BABYMETAL for 4 years, but only as a dancer - she did not have a mic and did not sing, BABYMETAL for those 4-5 years was Su and Moa as a duo. BABYMETAL are, as you were thinking, a fusion of Metal with J-Pop hooks, melodies and aesthetics - and they are confusing when you first see them, but they have evolved over the last 14 years to be so much more, blending Metal with so many more musical styles and genres. They are both original and unique doing things their own way, not following the standard or traditional ways so many thousands of bands do things ... they brought choreographed dance to metal for a start. They have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last, you will not be able to predict them, expect the unexpected - some are deep and meaningful, some are just fun, some are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They do like to leave the meaning of a lot of their songs up to the listeners to decide for themselves, but they will get the general meaning, feel or emotion of the song across with their voices and with the interpretive choreography. Unlike pop acts where the dancing is mostly meaningless movement and all the same dance steps or spread legs and grabbing crotches and just used to fill the stage or to give you half dressed girls to look at, BABYMETALs dancing is bespoke for each song, related to the meaning of the song or a lyric. It is also designed to get the crowd involved and joining in, giving them their cues to jump, pump their fists, chant, sing along or whatever. Your interpretation of the lyrics was pretty much spot on and good job noticing how it gradually improved with imagining the night sky in a colour, then painting the night sky in rainbow colours and finally illuminating the whole world in rainbow colours ... things can get very dark, it may seem there is no hope, no future, its the end of the world (Ragnarok is from Norse mythology referencing the end of all things I think) - but keep going, don't give up, things will get better, light will return. "No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive." I'm looking forward to seeing you surprised in different ways with each new song you hear from BABYMETAL.

I am a marvel fan and thanks to Thor I knew what Ragnarok was but I am not afraid to Google stuff to get a full understanding of things to better my appreciation for art. Thanks for supporting the video. 🤘 BABYMETAL KICKS ASS. Makes me realize I've been missing out on soooo much good music.

@@Zomb1eDawg Babymetal have a lot of pop culture references in their live performances and lore. Star Wars and Evangelion, especially. But also some Marvel and DC references. They've used Batman imagery before and their BABYMETAL RETURNS and BABYMETAL BEGINS concerts last year call back to the Batman Returns and Batman Begins movie titles. Their latest album, THE OTHER ONE, is all about exploring the metalverse (i.e., multiverse). At BABYMETAL RETURNS they entered the Metalverse of Madness (referencing Doctor Strange) and have been using sling ring imagery.

Nice thoughtful reaction. SuMetal and MoaMetal performed an amazing acoustic version of this song on the Japanese You Tube channel, The First Take and it garnered over a Million views in it's first 24 hr.s after release. It may be the best showcase of her World class mezzo soprano voice. There is also a animated lyric video and each version of Monochrome can evoke a different emotion, a very BabyMetal trait. BabyMetal is very Japanese and in a Zen-like way never come out and tell us what "the meaning is", but leave it to the listener/viewer to explore the layers. BM is way deeper than first impressions might indicate. Even the very early works, geared generaly for young women, have positive, up-lifting messages. And yes, Su has indicated that Monochrome has such a message as well. Yet, it would be remiss not to mention that Su was born and raised in Hiroshima, it's just a fact. I would suggest you watch the lyric video and see where the images take you. Yes, the story has a dark and disturbing element, but BM is not making a judgement, maybe only reminding the World that in these dangerous times, only in remembering the past, can we navigate a path to a brighter future.

Welcome to Babymetal. They are magical and soul piercingly amazing!! Also, these gals are now 14-year veterans, the most internationally well known band from Japan, and paved the way for bands like Band-Maid to have an easier time to breakthrough to the west. *Song interpretation:* The song speaks about a “tragedy” - Monochrome fireworks. That befalls us - Bright star disappearing, warmth of a loved one vanishing, etc. Causing one to question their outlook on life - What colors can we imagine the night sky? However, even during the darkest times - Ragnorak/End of days There will always be hope - Let’s paint the night sky in rainbow colors. “The morning will come, so just smile.” Babymetal is the only band in the last 20 years that has made me, a grown middle-aged man tear up. So no shame if you felt somethin’ lol. *Suggestions:* *Road of Resistance (Pia Arena MM, 2023):* An epic battle anthem from the same concert as Monochrome. *Headbanger (Legend 1997):* Time travel back to Dec 2013. Celebrate lead Su-metal’s 16th BDay with this heavy AF song. As title suggests, it’s a banger. *Ratatata (Official MV):* Newest release from 2 weeks ago, collab with German party metal band Electric Callboy. Fun times, party banger of 2024. Look forward to more Babymetal!! 🤘🦊

I am so happy you discovered BABYMETAL. They started in 2010 at ages of 11 and 12. But they were faced with criticism that young girls should stay away from metal. In a TV interview (I think it was 2013) when asked where they were headed, they answered,"World Domination". That is when they were not touring abroad. Look at them now! in 2023, they performed 97 live shows in 25 countries. BABYMETAL haters started to become quieter after 2014 or so, and they have paved the way to gaining understanding of young female metal artists from Japan. Welcome to the FOXHOLE. Nice reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. They originated as the fusion of metal with kawaii, meaning "cute" and being a whole culture. Musically, they are very diverse, since they like to mix any music genre with metal. Their latest album, The Other ONE (in which this song is included) is probably their most cohesive and probably lacks part of that initial "kawaiiness". They recovered it quickly with their two new singles "Metali!" and "RATATATA". Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey! 🤘🦊

As Road-runner mentioned, Babymetal is big on mixing things up. You mentioned you're big into rap and hiphop correct? While I don't really like that music (to each his/her own, I have a close friend who can rap very well to the point that if you give her a topic she'll start throwing out lines for as long as you'd like her to about that topic. I've seen her get hired to do shows at clubs by doing that lol), Babymetal HAS done some of that too. I'd recommend BxMxC ('B'aby'M'etal 'C'ypher), Iine (that 2 'i's not an 'L' and an 'i'), and Papaya as those songs have elements of the music you like in them.

There is something about her voice that really hits people - especially in Japanese. She's reknowned for her voice, and for inducing tears on occassions 😂. Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this very performance at the venue. The flying drones with cameras that enabled the beautiful aerial cinematograph were manipulated by experts including a member of team Japan for World Drone Racing Championship. Western (American) Kami Band played in the girls' back. They have supported many of BABYMETAL show since 2019. Japanese fans always appreciate the devoted support like knights by Chris, CJ, Anthony and Clint (Ryan replaced in USA). We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. I am a fan of Band-Maid, too. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

@@Zomb1eDawg You got it right the second attempt. I am going to give you a heads up though. There is a certain interpretation of this song you have already encountered which just isn't true. Straight up, the song isn't about Hiroshima. This comes off The Other One album, a concept album, and each song brings in various stories and myths from around the world for each song and then allows a personal interpretation of the songs. Applying the Hiroshima event to this song seems to be less about personal interpretation as applying their interpretation to BABYMETAL itself. Su herself was surprised people had a sad interpretation of the song as she considers it a very hopeful song.

Babymetal actually met Metallica before they became popular because they had printed tshirts that said 'And Justice for Babymetal' and Metallica noticed them at a music festival. Metallica invited them to their show and it was the girls' first metal concert other than their own. Later on Babymetal opened for Metallica in Korea.

But this song makes it a bit more easy, it´s just a wonderful, beautiful song that seems to be made just for Su-Metal´s beautiful, powerful voice. The powerful metal sound behind her complements it and makes the song complete, IMHO. It´s quite normal to get emotional, if Su-Metal sings 🙂 Moametal once said, that she loves to listen to Su-Metal´s singing, as it is like an angel came down to earth to just sing. I can feel that, too 😉You should try the f1rst take version of "Monochrome"... Keep the BABYMETAL reactions coming, you won´t be disappointed by them! SuMetal is from Hiroshima and many fans, including myself believe the monochrome firework is the A-Bomb exploding 1,000ft above the city (as seen from the perspective of a child trying to grasp what this awesome thing was). The blast was so bright it robbed the sky of all colour and was followed by the darkness of dark clouds, black rain and no power. The 2nd verse describes this fallout and the child alone. The chorus and the final verse is about hope and choosing to repaint the sky in bright colour. If you watch the music video it makes even more sense.

Monochrome definitely a top 10 from Babymetal...but definitely check out BMTH Kingslayer ft BabyMetal live in Tokyo Or Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (if you want to hear more from the Kami band). And if you like hip hop check out XG - woke up ( all Japanese group based in Korea, song was trending #1 in US, #2 worldwide on KZread 2 weeks ago, and the video is crazyyyy 💯🔥🎶, song of the year for me, and they speak English!). And they're fairly new, about a year and some change.

The monochrome firework is the atom bomb that was dropped on herochima.

You'd really like "from dusk till dawn" by them, great reaction, su is easily my favorite singer, theirs people with more range sing higher blah blah... but if I had to only listen to one person sing its her hands down.

Well to be precise in the US and Europe concerts Moa and Momo have additional Jobs divide tha audience and train them. Ifvthey react accordingly a few smiles and friendly wavingbis enough but if thry don't react they speak you through the lines so everybody knows the lines.

BABYMETAL the Mt Rushmore of Japanese rock/metal. You know of Band Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites, Hannabie etc because Babymetal exists.

Well even if this was Orinally the Kami Band West, it is obvious why thy only dropped West when it became obvious that the original Kami Band became a thing of the past. Thechead Mic is only for Moa and Momo (Scream and Dance). Yes, and it is about the first atomic bomb. Su is from Hiroshima. And this was the first day Momo was a Babymetal, not only a guest dancer. So Su at just reacted that she must no longer hold her distance. When she calls the Metals they are tight, like sisters.

This interpretation has not been confirmed by anyone from Babymetal. Su herself has stated that she did not interpret the song in this way.

@renoslash1890, it's not about Hiroshima but the Monochrome firework is a good discription of an A bomb that bright star that shined yesterday that Monochrome fireworks. May not be but like mentioneding Ragnarok it looks like they referencing it .😁 🤘🏼🦊

@@martinmetal7481 Its fine if that is your interpretation but Ragnarok is not about Nukes.

@renoslash1890 No, it's not , but it's about the end of the world, although it is not saying Hiroshima How many cities do you know had the A Bomb dropped on them . That is only being referenced like Ragnarok. The song is a positive one saying that no matter how bad it gets ( having a nuke dropped on you is not so good ), things will get better eventually . Su did not say it wasn't about Hiroshima or was about Hiroshima. she said she thought it was a positive song with a positive message . 😁🤘🏼🦊
