Me and two friends had paddled along Greenland's west coast and were there when this happened. We had tent on the other side of the cliff when the iceberg suddenly began to calve. And then everything happened quickly... In the middle of the movie you can see one of us coming up. All did well! An adventure to paddle with whales, but an adventure that ended in a rather unexpected way... Thanks to all the people who came to our rescue!

I was just going to post and ask what happened as you were there then instantly gone. I was hoping you were just in the ditch on the other side of the wave. That must have been freaky seeing that wave coming at you! I’m glad you’re both ok! Thanks for sharing.

This is, in fact, a tsunami. It's not covering the entire Pacific Ocean, but it is a real tsunami, caused by the sudden displacement of a large amount of water, as opposed to the normal waves created by wind.

Lituya Bay, 1953 or 54, somewhere around there. If I remember correctly, the initial wave was over 1000 feet high! I think it may have almost been 1500 feet, or more, when the landslide happened. I can't believe the people who were in that boat at the mouth of the bay when it happened survived at all. They said that when they came to, they were up on the mountain in the trees. Insane.
