Puwexils runs always tend to be my favorites in any speed run event. Great commentary, knowledgeable game play and damn is he just good. Just a real win win

Going ALL the way back to the dark space in Mu to beat the Vampires with Freedan is so worth it. It actually changes Erik's dialogue to do so too, because Freedan transforms back into Will right in front of Erik before you defuse the bomb. Shortly after that, a very thankful Erik promises to keep Will's secret.

I always interpreted the Frier in Dark Frier as something with religious connotations, like a Friar; so it's like a big ball of judgement smiting enemies.

I was looking for an Illusion of Gaia speedrun just a few days ago. I fucking love this game! It's one my childhood favorites. So glad to see a speedrun being done this year.

This was a great run by Puwexils! I love this game and never knew it was a part of a "sequel"! New games to explore!

schmitty9800 ResidentSleeper was everywhere because RPGs are boring, I guess. IoG's a great game, and puwexil showed off a bunch of AI flaws. Great run.

By the time when this game was released I tried to collect all those red jewels and later I found out you can't go back. ^^

On the back of the box, it says there is 60 hours of gameplay. That is false advertising!

If you don't have a guide and it is in black and white because your setup is ass it certainly takes over 60 hours.

This was my favorite game as a kid, followed by Secret of Mana and A Link to the Past

It took me dozens of hours as a kid...

Just came to watch him put Mu to shame. Not disappointed.

I saw you go straight for the fisherman's gem and I was like, "What??" I had to use tool-assist (frame advancing) to get around in time using the same path as one of your earlier speedruns because my gamepads/my reflexes suck. How does that strat work?

I don't know the exact timing. From a hard reset, before starting a new file, he lets the Main Menu cut-scene play for a little bit. He listens for an audio cue during the scene where you have a bunch of birds going across the screen, then he goes to start a new file. I believe the backup is going in and out of the cave 7 times at a particular time to get him to show up, obviously that is slower.

What is the fisherman's red jewel RNG trick at the start of the game?

Can it really be called 100% if they skip all the upgrades? Perhaps they should label it "all red jewels" instead. Really nice run regardless of semantics.

They only skip the upgrades temporarily, as beating a boss gives you all the upgrades you would've gotten between that boss and the previous boss (or since the start of the game).

The term "100%" is always kind of a fluid one for Speedruns. Mainly, it seems to be "no major glitches, as developer intended" rather then "100% perfect file" types. If you had an jRPG, you wouldn't be expected to collect x99 of every item, for example. Ultimately, 100% is just what the community decides it is.

Yep, the game gives you all the stats you missed from room clears upon killing a boss. Pretty much ensures that you won't be too strong or too weak.

I would LOVE to see a Terranigma run at a GDQ. Anything to get knowledge of the gams's existence out there man, it's too good to fall into obscurity merely because it never reached North America. Hell, I'd say that despite it's flaws (sudden insane difficulty spikes in one or two places that can negated lvlling once or twice, guide absolutely required first time through to not miss anything and get 100%) It's up there with the SNES's best, OST and all, even if I have a bit more of an attachment to Illusion of Time for having played that prior.

It definitly deserves recognition. We have 2016 and it's STILL one of the best games i've ever played. I just love it but as i said, i don't think i'm fast enough to compete @ AGDQ with Terranigma.

The current Terranigma Any% WR is 3h 33m 11s by CrAwEk. For an obscure game like TN with run times of that length it would mean it would have to take the place of a Final Fantasy series run or another more well known RPG, which I don't see being likely at all.

It's not 100% unless you picked up everything and racked up the most amount of game time possible.

Fenrir's Dark Seal Because they still don't get the Earthquake ability. It's not necessary since you can skip past the part you need it for, but regardless, it's still being skipped. They don't get 100% of things.

That's kinda like saying they missed a chest that had an herb in it, or didn't stand in the line forever for the power up. I see 100% in games like this as beating all bosses. Which they did.

Fenrir's Dark Seal It's nothing like that. Herbs are common items that can be gotten in multiple places. It's more like saying you did 100% of Ocarina of Time without getting the Red Tunic.

which, if it is possible to do, is still 100%. Like how in alttp 100% doesn't require the bomb or arrow capacity upgrades.

One thing I could never get into was how linear this game was

Do they not know the Tech where Alternating Directions during Freedan/Shadows attack animation cancels all lag and restarts the attack? I am a casual who played this one time and even I know you can guarantee the three-cycle on the Final boss with that.

Man I wish they'd lower Vulajin's mic a bit... I really don't like hearing every other breath from him over the actual game.

All games done during these events are NOT tool assisted speedruns (TAS). Unless they're specifically stated. There is a TAS block during these events but this is not part of it.

I have been bothered by how linear and tell-don't-showy this game is, and don't find its characters interesting at all, so seeing 90% of the nonsense skipped like this by a player who doesn't take it seriously makes me able to appreciate it better. even more than six years later.
