Carnegie Hall Premiere/ Manhattan Concert Productions
Dr. James Rodde, conductor
Illuminare is Elaine’s first extended work, consisting of five movements for SATB chorus and chamber orchestra. Using lesser-known sacred Latin, Greek, and English texts, the piece takes us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.

I’m an atheist but I almost teared up during the solo. Definitely one of the most emotionally touching choral pieces I’ve ever listened to-and it’s not just because of the lyrics. So excited and honored to sing this.

God loves you so much, he gave his only son to die the most excruciating death, to forgive you from your sins. We are all sinful, but Jesus promises us eternal life, if we believe and put our faith in him. ❤️🙏. I do not want you to spend your eternity in hell. Hell is a very terrible place. Please pick up a Bible and read a gospel- only reading the book of Matthew could have the power to change your entire life and give you life eternal. ❤️🙏

Was so blessed to sing this movement two weeks ago at Carnegie hall in NYC. Munera Pacis had me in tears. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you, not as the world gives, gives I to you.” 17:19 Thank you Elaine Hagenburg, and thanks be to God. 17:19

My school choir and a several other schools sang this piece together at Carnegie. Have a great time in NYC! Carnegie Hall is beautiful and NYC is filled with so many things to do. Safe travels :)

I just sang this in Feb. of 2024. The words and sounds stay with me. Our community chorus which has been around for almost 100 years maintains a steady following of family and friends of choristers plus sophisticated NYC music followers. Elaine Hagenberg's gift of touching the soul through music is extraordinary. With thanks for our new conductor, Dr. Christine Howlett, for introducing her to us as part of the repertoire we know--from Bach to all the masters of the Mass, to RV Williams, gospel, soul, Dave Brubeck, Alice Parker, Ola, Jake, etc.-- and far beyond in national sounds of Spain, Finland, Mexico, Italy, Russia, France, and so many more. Tears, indeed, well up in performers and audience alike as we recognize our imperfections and thank God for gracious love and great art.

I was fortunate enough to be able to sing this during a Christmas program, and I really enjoyed it. Nox was hands down my favorite, as a percussionist and singer. That bass drum part added so much to the piece. Every time we finished it my heart would be racing as we stood on stage in the brief silence between movements. It was super fun to sing, and the contrast between this and the following movement does a fantastic job of communicating what the world feels like without Jesus and the hope that He brings into it. Additionally the beginning and end have such joy to them, even though the first soprano part was a killer towards the end 😆 Bravo Miss Hagenberg

This is an instant favourite. There will be tears across the World whenever the fourth section (Munera pacis) is sung, because it's beautiful. The tenor solo is exquisite (bravo to this singer). For me, Munera pacis is worthy of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. Yes, this whole piece is an instant classic for the repertoire. Congratulations to the conductor, massed choirs and orchestra. And simply 'thank you'. (Ashley, in England)

Although obviously unique in comparison to any of your other pieces, I am happy to hear so many familiar nods to your previous works combine into one cohesive and articulate performance. Thank you for your personal style over the choral counterpoint; it inspires me and my colleagues immensely. P.S. There is no such thing as too much G / D major, as you have just implied! :)
