What a lot of nonsense. They are arm computers that can be used for anything. First thing I did was get rid of the android rubbish that comes on it and put Linux. So does that mean your Intel laptop is illegal because you can put exactly the same s/w on them

Setup Box is basically Multimedia Box. It's a android device that allows non Smart/Android TV users to use apps like KZread, Internet and many more to be display on TV. Its not illegal to buy or sell Multimedia Box, but its illegal to sell Multimedia Box with pirated streaming service. So sellers at Sim Lim, why so scared. Just delete all the pirated content and continue to sell the box. If buyer want to stream pirated content, then just advice them to go find in Google.

Those with android tv dont even need that.

Why go through the trouble for such a small market like Singapore? Big markets like China can freely access and the big companies are still very happy and making contents that Chinese people like. This exercise is just an attempt for an elite organisation to score points and to look good in the global stage with little impact to the big companies. However the poor common people are stripped of their basic entertainment. And now have to watch social engineering programmes from MediaCorp dramas. Or to sit downstairs in the void decks and stare into the emptiness

Why not force them to work together so everyone pays one price and enjoy everything? Why are laws only against consumers? Not their cronies....I mean corporations.

Some movies are available free, but for a more comprehensive selection, you need to subscribe and receive a password.

Don't understand what's the big deal about these set-top boxes? I can simply use my old android phone and side-load any .apk. I guess these boxes are for those that prefer a working package and not that techie?

@@phantomsea8987 Hence why when we bought one, it wouldn't work after a few months because the authorities took the server down. If I'm right, It's basically a tiny android machine that uses an app connected to the server to stream movies. I paid 100 bucks for the damn thing from an IT-show before.

@@ZimmerSquash Yup, once their server turns off, it becomes a paper weight. Most of this cheap TV box won't make alternative server incase one gets shutdown. (Not saying $100 is cheap but to them the want to earn the most with least of cost of operation)

Why there is pirated content in the set up box,,, coz ,to hv Mio, starhub are too expensive not everybody can afford, so this come in handy, Government should just allow this boxes be sold ,, Government have earn more than enough to cover their ministers salaries

Not as if they're making losses, they only care about their profits but removing pirated content doesn't mean it increases the profit, some people will choose to stop consumption rather than to purchase the original content, so the net gain is still zero.

netflix overpriced crap that has region locks, i have to use a VPN to watch some shows coz they region locked it or sometime the show is only aired 1 year after its aired in Japan, US, Korea, bloody stupid. they do that crap and people will watch online for free

no the film makers dont earn much, netflix takes 60% of the cut and spotify takes 80% hence a lot of artists actually go broke when they partner with spotify, dark secrets of the industry that no one talks about
