Some Gollobordans claim Macedonian idenity and some claim Bulgarian identity. I have friends from both groups. Minorities should serve as connecting bridges between Albania and North Macedonia. Muslim Gollobordans feel better living in Albania than in North Macedonia - or this is what they have told me. Most of them do not call the language "Macedonian" rather "nashe" (our). People in the Balkans lived for centuries along one another without borders, from the times of Byzantine Empire through the last days of the Ottoman Empire. The transition from one culture to another was smoother back in the days, and it is getting better now, but during cold war times, people were not able to communicate across the borders.

Hi! I don't know much about the Bulgarians in Golo brdo, but for the Macedonins living there, i can tell you that you heard them saying that they're speaking naši or in some cases našinski, which it literally means "ours", because they are in fact torbeši. So, the torbeši are a slav muslim minority especially present in Macedonia altought there are a few also in Kosovo, and naši is a term not only used by the torbeši, but also by "Gorani" in Kosovo and by "Pomaks" in Bulgaria, these 3 minorities are often grouped together as one "big" family. But, as i said, the term means ours as saying "ours language" and is very similar to the standard Macedonian language or Bulgarian for the Pomaks. All of those 3 minorities share similar tradiotions, that are a little bit distinct from the normal coltural tradiotions present in the nations they live, and storically these populations are mostly orthodox slavs that converted to islam during the ottoman empire. I hope that i helped!

@@Aj-oj8tq Yup, that's what I said, they speak a Slavic dialect that they call "ours". Those in need of a EU passport declare Bulgarians, as it is easier to travel and relocate around in western Europe. They are generally hard working people, humble, and keep to themselves. Muslims share many customs and rituals with local Albanian Muslims. Thanks

@@HK-pp9ig Yes, you already wrote the language part, only I read in a hurry and didn't notice the brackets haha. As far as the cultural aspect is concerned, at least here the similarities are due more than anything to religion, in this case Muslim. But compared to the Orthodox Macedonians and the Albanian Muslims we have some different customs and traditions, which actually puts us a little outside the bubble compared to the "national majorities".

Alexander the Great, was from Pella, Macedonia (GR)... no Slavic people lived in the region until Slavic migration in the 7th century AD. Ancient Macedonia history ended in 146 BC along with Ancient Greek history after Rome Empire conquered the region for centuries. There is a huge gap, disconnect from 146BC to 1992 (or even 1945) that needs some explanation.

This is fake! Golloborda had the name Kalabardha and are 99% Albanians. During the weddings, they use albanian flags and not makedonian flags. Shame on you that modify the history. My parents are from this area and say to you, go back to Slavic places, you sick nationalists!

Most probably people of Gollobordo are remnants of the Bulgarian empire in the middle ages that stretched from current Bulgaria, Thrace, North Greece, today's NM, Kosovo, and Albania. Gollobordo people are bilingual (Bulgarian and Albanian), and mostly are muslims. Macedonian identity is more prominent around Prespa region encompassing NM, Albania and Greek Macedonia region. Bulgaria has a great history spanning from 9th-11 century to the Byzantine times up to BUlgarian independence from Ottoman Empire. Bulgarians are very friendly and welcoming people. There is this big appetite in Skopje to become Macedonians, but no Macedonian language (apart from the Vardar dialect of Bulgarian). Antic Macedonia fell with Ancient Greece more than a century before Christ, since Roman occupation of the region... since then until Tito's Yugoslav Socialist Republic of Macedonia, the region was Vardar Banovina, or other names; while Skopje (aka Scupi) was an Illyrian ancient city in Roman times. Language, customs, music, traditions and history of current country of NM is closely related to that of Bulgaria and Bulgarian people under Byzantine and Ottoman empires.
