You are so right about that, and we will never see those singers again. Especially, the way they are staging the Opera Scenes, not according to Tradition. If Verdi, Donizetti, Bellini were alive, they would have had them executed. Especially, Gelb from the Metropolitan Opera... I refuse to go to the Opera, because of the Staging, and their interpretation of adding to the opera, which wasn't intended. Che Vergogna!

Great cast. Bergonzi for my money was one of the best Verdi tenors, ever. Such huge, open-throated singing. His squillo is just unique...tying for first place with the great Corelli. Whoever uploaded this, MILLE GRAZIE! You've made my day. A Bergonzi Trovatore was the first recorded opera (on DG) I heard as a teenager and his voice has remained seared in my memory since. You could never mistake his voice for another tenor's. Unique sound and colour. Bravo Carlo!!!

Clabassi magnifico. Voz bela e uniforme, era admirado por sua inteligência cênica e dignidade.

Вообще, почему-то режиссеры много ставили именно Трубадура. В 50-е то же RAI сделало вариант с Генчер, дель Монако и Бастианини. В 1974 настала очередь нового поколения : Бонисоли, Дзанканарро, Кабаиванска.🤗

When Verdi revised the opera for Paris, he omitted the cabaletta, but even if he hadn't, conductors had already started making disfiguring cuts in Bel Canto operas and many of Verdi's operas and still do to this day. I'm a firm believer in respecting the composer's intentions, so I find it difficult and unsatisfactory to listen to these masterpieces with disfiguring cuts.

Para mí una de las mejores versiones del TRovatore, tengo que reconocer que soy un fan de Bergonzi y de Cappuccilli

Недаром Андроников, оказавшись в Риме, отдал последние лиры на билет в оперу. Слушал "Aндре Шенье" с той же Стеллой, дель Монако и Гуэльфи.

Es todo un poema ver la cara de psicópata que pone Piero Capucilli, pero se le aguanta. Las mujeres están correctas pero no son nada del otro mundo. Los que más me gustan son Carlo Bergonzi (a pesar de que en algunos pasajes - contrétamente en los cantables - se recrée demasiado y retarde el tempo sin necesidad) y el bajo Plinio Clabassi (que más parece un barítono por la delgadez de la voz, pero llega a las notas agudas con limpieza, claridad y sin estrangular la voz, lo cuál se agradece).

I remember Clabassi's 1957 film version.

Oggi sarebbe impossibile scritturare un cast simile... Verdi voleva soprani, tenori, baritoni, mezzo e bassi di grande spessore... ormai i teatri scritturano un/a divo/a e il resto come capita... e come potrebbero fare altrimenti con voci magari a volte anche apprezzabili ma con tecniche raffazzonate e spesso fuori ruolo. Verdi non è una passeggiata canora, è una montagna della lirica e servono voci preparate e ben amalgamate fra loro.

In realtà le voci ci sarebbero ma purtroppo oggi appena si trova un cantante con una voce apprezzabile lo si butta subito a fare i grossi calibri verdiani , così si hanno delle voci che andrebbero bene per fare il barbiere e invece si ritrovano a fare il trovatore .... Non si da a loro il tempo di maturare e naturalmente dopo due tre anni queste voci si perdono e questo é inevitabile .... quello che sarebbe indispensabile per un cantante Lirico é la gavetta e non si fa più ..... Che sia sbagliato lo sappiamo tutti ma si potrà tornare indietro e lavorare come si deve? Incomincio a perdere il mio ottimismo a dire il vero....

@@eugeniogentili1048 Prevedi grande tenore, ma per tecnica, stile, nobiltà e interprete Verdiano(ma non solo), non è da accostare a Bergonzi. Carlo appartiene all' Olimpico. Non è solo un mio giudizio, ma dei suoi colleghi maschi e femmine, direttori, e specialisti del settore. Comunque ognuno di pensarla come vuole e crede. Buon ascolto a tutti.

Have tried over the years to warm up to Capuccilli’s voice, but to no avail. He sings very, very well, and interprets everything with accurate style. Something missing for me. High notes rather tenor ish. Give me Warren, MacNeill, Merrill, or Zancanaro, and Bastianini any day… any role they did.

Con tutto il rispetto per queste registrazioni storiche, una direzione come questa di Basile oggi farebbe pena anche in una filarmonica di provincia. Riesce a far cantare male perfino Bergonzi.
