Ikea Skydrag - Cheap, Easy to Install Cabinet HomeKit Lighting
Ғылым және технология
There's no doubting that whilst Ikea make some of the cheapest smart home products on the market, they're not all great. Still, when it comes to cabinet lighting, they're hard to beat, and the quality is also great. Skydrag are enclosed light strips with their own diffusers that come in different sizes, and fittings that allow these to be placed in cupboards, shelves, under kitchen cabinets, and even wardrobes, where I fitted mine.
You do need the Ikea Trådfri gateway, driver and a power supply, but it's still an affordable solution, especially if you want to get these lights into HomeKit.

I purchased these for my kitchen. They work great as undercabinet lighting and task lighting. The Ansluta power supply is a bit bulky, but overall I am impressed. I was unable to get the motion sensor to work at all. I just leave them on when I'm working in the kitchen, and they are on a switched outlet to turn them off when I leave. Disappointed by the lack of a good sensor, but it's not the end of the world. I really like the directional aspect of this light. If you point it downward, it shines downward and does not shine in your eyes. Good color temp, 2700K warm white.

The motion sensors were pretty unreliable in my experience too, but the lights themselves are the opposite, and still in use now. Thanks for the comment!
If used in a display case, can the light be set to remain on? So not just when the doors are open
@homekitnews

yes, you can do that.
How's the brightness? I'd like to use this as an impromptu desk lamp as my setup doesn't really have space for a regular desk lamp directly above where I'm working, but I'm not sure if it's bright enough to work by. Thanks!

At 530lm it would be bright enough if it were in lamp, but because the light is spread across a wider area/length, in my opinion, you're not going to get that concentration of brightness that you might need for working at your desk. It does depend on how high above your desk you have it though.
What gateway are you using to add the IKEA led and aqara/mija sensors ?
@homekitnews

I’m using an Aqara Hub M2 for the sensors, and the Ikea Trådfri gateway for the Ikea LED lights.
Please help I am so confused on how u connected the sensor to the led strip and also which sensor are you using the eve or aqara?!
@homekitnews

The strip and the sensors are all in HomeKit, which is how I'm able to trigger the lights with the sensors. I do clearly mention the brand of sensors I'm using in the video - Aqara and Mijia.

@@homekitnews what hub is the ikea light connected to?
@homekitnews
Жыл бұрын
It’s connected to the older Ikea Trådfri hub, via the Ikea Tradfri Driver.
Do I need the driver? There is already cable with a switch available.

Yes, if you want the lights to connect to your smart home, you need the driver, which is the part that makes it ‘smart’ essentially.
Where can I find any information of “no need to get the steering device anymore”?
@homekitnews
Жыл бұрын
Previously, in order to add a Tradfri device to the Tradfri gateway, you needed what Ikea referred to as a 'Steering device' acting as sort of a middleman, which would typically be another Tradfri battery-operated device, like a wireless button or even a motion sensor. That's no longer required, thankfully. I briefly mention it in this video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJWJ29pvmai0mto.html - starting at 3' 13".

@@homekitnews First of all, thank you for your swift response. I had already seen your video that you linked for me and what I wonder was something like IKEA’s comment concerning “no need to get that.” I want to get IKEA IoT bulbs for my home that can be controlled by iOS HomeKit and what do you think I need to prepare? Thanks in advance and I like your voice.
How long is the cable attached to the light?

The lights are connected to an Ikea Tradfri driver, which then connects to the Ikea Tradfri Gateway, which is HomeKit compatible.
