Awesome job Nicole... love the chunkiness and the choice of stain colour. You turned a corner in the yard into a chillout space.
Well I'll be dipped...I have a futon frame I was trying to figure out how to make a couch out of for my living room...❤ thank you!!

You could easily pad the arms with foam and cover those as well. I’d make a lightweight box frame for the arms if I was doing an indoor lounge. The sleeper arms I did are SUPER heavy.
Oh this reminds me of my mom. There wasn't anything that she couldn't make or do. She would look at something, and say oh my gosh I can do this with that. And then do it. She was so smart. Her ability of spatial visual and being able to take something that I could look at and immediately make something in her head and then bring it into fruition. What a beautiful thing. I miss her so. With that said. She's still inspires me on a daily basis. Especially whenever I want something. Remembering her helps me think outside of the box. Not all has lost when we lose someone. They live on throughout our thoughts and our actions. I love you Mom. I hope I make you proud. I always ask what would my mom do? And then I get to it. Haha 😆 Beautiful work. I ordered that jig about 7 years ago. My husband's like are you serious I said you better believe it. 🤣🙌🏼

What beautiful words. My mum is the same as your mum, she can make it fix anything! I’m so lucky to still have her. I don’t know how I will cope when she leaves this world one day. She is my best friend. Cheers to mums who guide us through life. 🌺
I love the way you ground off the protruding steel.

So much fun using a grinder!
Wow very nice work! Turned out great and I love the use of thicker material for the arms. The use of the old frame is brilliant. You’ve got me inspired to have a go at doing the same. Thanks!

This looks amazing! 😍 I love the idea of reusing an IKEA futon frame. I’ve seen similar outdoor sofas, but I always worry it would deteriorate over time since we don’t have a patio cover. Great idea!

Thank you :). I did actually also purchase a waterproof outdoor cover from eBay that was around $30 but we haven’t had to use it yet. It has a draw string around the bottom so you can secure it.

ok what ! youtube creator recommended your video to watch for its DIY and the fact that we are all in australia! and man im i soooo glad they did! this is so awesome. the fact that you combined the ikea frame with sleeper logs OMG!! the sleeper longs are the cheapest i can find in bunnings and i love them but i always thought they needed like to be put through a planner. but sanding for hours seems a cheaper option for sure. love this woman!!!

Genius! I’m definitely doing this once I finish my raised patio. Just watch out that the IKEA frame doesn’t rust out on you. Maybe a coat of Hammerite will help.

Agreed! Keeping an eye on it and will check out hammerite, thank you!

@@NicoleHerrickDIY do you have any updates on how this holds in the rain? I'm worried it's going to rust when rain water gets inside the frame. And maybe create rust stains on the cushions.
@NicoleHerrickDIY
2 жыл бұрын
@@daanxbox360 hi, no rust so far after 1 year. I did have some mould on the cushions though and found that the fabric wasn’t very waterproof. Some mould also gathered on the timber slats so I’ve sanded those back and painted with a waterproof primer. I’ve washed the covers and sprayed with a silicone water proofer then wrapped the inner cushions in plastic drop sheets to stop any water that will probably still get through. I honk next year I might remake the cushion covers in regular upholstery fabric, spray my own waterproofing on top but nothing bottom so water can escape out the bottom easily. Hope that helps!
@NicoleHerrickDIY

@@daanxbox360 oh and also the arms are still waterproof, the coffee table needs a fresh coat of stain though. I think every 18 - 24 months the arms will need a recoat.
The instructions 😂 loved the DIY! Definitely will be giving this a shot

Girl you are a bad ass!!! 🤩😍. I like that you actually made the cushions yourself, the piping gave it that custom... luxe...touch. Yes, they can be bought for less expensive, but you get what you pay for... is what I believe in. And the inexpensive ones are thin and just not comfortable, yours looks good enough to sleep on.

This turned out absolutely lovely!!!! I am dreaming up my plans for our outdoor sofa build!! I love the look of the chunky arms! What brand stain did you use? I tried finding “spotted gum” coloured stain and haven’t been able to find it.
@NicoleHerrickDIY
3 жыл бұрын
I used Integrain stain. The brand and colour might be specific to Australia. If you’re in another country, just look for a decking stain that has a grey brown undertone rather than a red orange undertone.
You killed this!! Great job

Hello from Scandinavia ! GREAT JOB !!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Even IKEA does recyceling now. They collect used IKEA furniture, give them a lick of paint or something, and resell them). All my furniture is second hand, but one item... An IKEA "Billy" bookshelf from the 80's ! 📚 😄 Stay safe and well. Love from Norway 💖
