IKEA ACCIDENTALLY Made The BEST Glass Mousepad?! | IKEA VARMBLIXT Review

Ғылым және технология

You read that right! IKEA by complete accident released the best glass mousepad I've ever used! However IKEA didn't actually release a glass mousepad, they released the VARMBLIXT, a serving tray that with a little tinkering can be turned into a glass mousepad that preforms INSANELY well!
And the best part, it only cost $35.00 CAD. On top of the insane price the performance of IKEA accidental glass mousepad is SO good I've been maining it for almost a month and a half now, and believe me when I say this glass pad is a LOT more than meets the eye! You definitely don't wanna miss this one so enjoy the video and if you end up testing the VARMBLIXT yourself be sure to let me know down in the comments what you think of it!

They're to protect the top of drawer units from mark but hey they could double as a desk protector and mousepad I suppose. Tip: You'll probably still want a deskpad under your keyboard to dampen the sound when you type.

Alright well IKEA is straight up trolling, turns out the entire VARMBLIXT lineup has been discontinued by IKEA... When you create a “specialized” market, the prices are usually higher. Just like how things are marketed to gamers, i.e. “gaming” mouse, “gaming” chair, “gamer” energy drink, etc. There probably isn’t any difference in how IKEA’s product is made, compared to a gaming glass pad. It’s just these gaming oriented companies are marketing it to a specific audience and not as a general product. We all then fall for it, or at least the majority do, and boom! You got yourself an expensive product, that is cheap to make and you have somewhat high yields in profit. I say “somewhat” because if they are only marketing it to a specific market, it’s audience reach will be much lower and out of that audience, not everyone is going to get one from them. So, high profit, but low sale volumes.

That is incorrect, I've owned both the skypad 3.0 and game sense sonar, not only do they have measurably different friction, they feel completely different in practice. So while glass is technically glass, the surface changes it's dynamics considerably into completely different experiences. Thats not a shot at this IKEA hack, glass pads don't need to be as expensive as they are. And some pads do feel similar to each other.

Bought today after watching your video! I regularly use a Raiden Mid by Artisan, I am a competitive Apex Legends player, with several hours of gameplay and Kovaak. Just recently I was considering purchasing a glass pad but I was hesitant, given the excessive prices on a product that I wasn't sure I would like, given its particularity. I've already had the opportunity to try the glass "tray-pad" I bought from Ikea today and I have no words: certainly faster than the Raiden Mid, but with a control that I would never have expected given the greater speed. I never thought I'd say it, but I much prefer it to the Raiden Mid and it makes me laugh to think that Ikea didn't market it as a real gaming pad, it would have been a crazy success! Paid exactly half because last pieces, I'll take at least a spare pair! It will definitely become my main pad, I've tried a lot of pad but this Ikea tray is marvelous. Still speachless. the white powder is probably acrylic dust. its commonly used in storage of glass so there is a small gap between the sheets to make em easier to separate. otherwise the sheets sortof become massive suction cups.

For glass pads, I'd recommend using UHMW(ultra high molecular weight) polyethelyene. CS Hyde makes a sheet with acrylic adhesive backing, I use that with a hand held sheet metal powerpunch to make dots. They last for months and stay consistent. PTFE will wear down and get flat spots after a while and it will leave a residue on the mousepad. UHMW polyethylene has a similar coefficient of friction to PTFE but it's about 3 times harder.

This cutting board looks about right, looks like it's similar to the 2.0, I'll have to get one to try out for a spare(Oh, I see your note about it being discontinued lol You can always get a sheet of frosted glass cut to spec, around 40-60 bucks or more depending on the size you want). Still have a backup Skypad 2.0 but it's nice to have multiple backups when you use a glass pad. :D

Im impressed. I need a sleeve and some dot skates. Couple of questions. I use a microfiber cloth to clean it, its ok? The surface that is for the mouse is the frosted one, aka the back of the serving tray. Not the front which is glossy? I had a hard time to notice the difference. Using a phylina s450 mouse, 3395 sensor, 1mm lod, all good. Thank you. Looking forward to your answers.

Hey, sorry for not getting back to you, I like never check IG so I totally missed it! To answer your questions: - You can clean the pad with a microfiber cloth or a soft sponge, just don't use anything too abrasive - You want to use the bottom frosted side of the pad, the front is untreated and glossy and will have a bunch of unnecessary friction on some mouse skates! - If you're looking for new skates I'd recommend getting the Xraypad Obsidian skates, those are the best on the market for glass pads and they feel amazing on the IKEA GLASS! - For arm sleeves I personally really like the Focus Pro Sleeve but any arm sleeve will work for this pad. People usually get sports arm bands off of Amazon and use those since they're very similar to "eSports" arm sleeves! Hope that helps! If you have any other questions let me know!
