IIM Ahmedabad Professor On The Actual Value of An MBA Degree

An MBA is a huge investment: top management programs in India can cost over 30 lakhs, not including the opportunity cost of investing one to two years into an MBA degree. So, is such a massive time and monetary investment really worth it? What does formal education in the form of an MBA add to your career? How will it be of use to you 40 years down the line? What are you going to do with your MBA degree?
In this video, we dive into a discussion with Dr. Tarun Jain - a professor of Economics at #IIMAhmedabad - on what is the true value of formal education in a country like India, and what it adds to your professional and personal life.
Dr. Tarun Jain also talks about why a subject like Economics is taught in an IIM classroom, and shares two important things he feels every MBA student should stand behind and be a proponent for. Professor Jain also talks about why we need to get out of the competitive mindset that is found commonly in our country, and how faculty at IIM Ahmedabad goes beyond the curriculum to instill good values into their students.
Finally, Dr. Tarun Jain - who has PhD in Economics - shares his take on the idea of free vaccination for the country, and shares what he would do if he were the Finance Minister in the Union Cabinet of the Indian government.

What The InsideIIM Professor of The Year Series Is About:
In recent times, the whole country struggled in coping up with the pandemic and lockdowns. In this time of crisis, it was the great leadership shown by our teachers and professors to ensure that learning never stops. They went beyond just teaching and found solutions and created new learning environments for their students to continue learning.
We at InsideIIM want to recognize the efforts that various B-School professors throughout the country put in to ensure that their students are not left behind and continue to meet their potential and achieve great things. This is why we asked MBA students of the current batches in 2021 to nominate their favorite professors on campus for the title of 'Professor of The Year' as a small token of gratitude for professors who have made so many efforts in the last year, just so that students can head out to etch a successful career for themselves!

The reality is completely different ....those who are in system they can't speak against it but yes college is good for MBA in terms of educational quality but that doesn't mean the proffesor or environment is top notch. The reality are know by scholars( PhD scholars) but they can't go against the system.Their degree will be compromised

    1. How do frameworks remain same? Cryptos and NFTs have disrupted traditional investing. Hence the skepticsm with it because it doesn't follow the frameworks. Social media have disrupted traditional marketing. Companies like bewakoof and WOW are destroying known clothing brands and HUL like companies in resp. domains. 2. Networking is not a problem in today's world there is discord, twitter, LinkedIn. 3. Statistics/ Economics should be made main stream by great professors like you... You need to keep putting videos and lectures on YT... NPTEL is quiet boring. The whole point of education today is making it interesting and not boring.

I certainly understand the need for building opportunities for the underprivileged classes (be it based on caste, gender or other bases). But, we see that the provisions made for the same often undermine meritocracy( reservations for example). How do we strike a balance? where competence is valued overall with provisions made for the above-mentioned inequalities. Are there any systems/processes which show such promise?
