Before 1998, the corals were so vibrant. Sad to see how much they’ve deteriorated due to climate change and tourism impact. Thanks Joanna for your update. It’s tragic to see the bad state of the reef.

We have known the Maldives since 1997 and for several years we have observed a rebirth of corals after El Nino in 1998. Especially on Ari Atoll. You can see on my videos: Angaga 2012, Safari Island 2014 or Athuruga 2015, but since 2016 the corals have really had a lot of difficulties in rebuilding this only Angaga on which we were last March is more advanced compared to Nova Maldives (Vakarufalhi visited in 2013 with a beautiful reef at the time) also visited in March, the reef on Safari Island (very beautiful in 2014) disappointing in 2022. The hope of seeing a beautiful reef again in the Maldives is slim, especially since a new El Nino is announced for this year.

ihuru is a beautiful island with interesting reef and in addition you can take advantage of a neighboring island Vabbinfaru to do super reef snorkeling too

I enjoyed watching some really cool Maldives videos. Among Angsana Ihuru, Safari, Nova, Angaga, Drift, Vilamendu, Athuruga, and Vabbinfaru, which would you recommend best when comparing price, underwater environment, meals, lagoon, and friendliness? I have made a reservation at Angsana Ihuru for 6 nights, but I am thinking about it. I want to eat delicious food and go to an underwater environment (a place with lots of pretty fish).

Thank you for watching my video. I think Ihuru's choice is very good. We are currently on Athuruga and have not completed our Safari stay (we had a lot of internet problems here). At Athuruga the cuisine is very good, the hotel is comfortable and the coral reef is nice, but the atmosphere is rather Italian. On Safari, the cuisine is also good, the atmosphere is multinational, but the coral reef is not very colorful but there are a lot of sharks. But overall, Ihuru is the best, although it's hard for me to rate the current cuisine because we were there 7 years ago and you can go to Vabbinfaru every day by motorboat for snorkeling. I'll be happy to come back. After returning from vacation, I can provide more information if necessary. Greetings from Maldives.

Hi! So beautiful and so useful for snorkelers..I'm planning to go to Maldives in June...which resort would you suggest to see mostly sharks and big fishes? THANK YOU!

Hello, usually we can see sharks on every reef but more frequently on islands located on passes (channel) like Vilamendhoo, Sandies Bathala (in our future projects) Embudhu Thudufushi (sharks, ray manta, ray eagle, turtle....) Ellaidhoo or Filitheyo. But we are very satisied with the reef on Athuruga for its diversity of species or Safari Island with the possibility of doing a day in a dhoni included in the package and exploring other reefs like Ellaidhuu very full off fish. Ihuru also offers you a beautiful reef and in addition a possibility to explore daily a large reef on Vabbinfaru with nice sharks and eagle rays encounters and addition quality accommodation. But it all depends on your budget and your lifestyle. Try to observe the reef very early in the morning when everyone is leaving their nests and also @ the end of the day when the sharks are getting ready to hunt. Each reef offers you lovely encounters if you have patience and a passion for an underwater life. Good holiday !!!

Hallo und danke für die schnelle Antwort. Leider ist der Foto und die Kamera nicht mehr so aktuell. Ich bin ja auf der Suche nach einer Kamera, die gute Fotos und gute Filme macht. Wir sind ja im Mai auf Ihuru und vielleicht kannst du mir dafür ein paar Tips zwecks Kamera geben.

Tatsächlich werden diese Kameras nicht mehr produziert. Da meine Lieblings-Canon G16 eine defekte Fokusfunktion hat, suche ich nach einer anderen Kamera als Ersatz. Ich habe eine der neuesten PowerShot Canon G7x Mark II getestet, aber leider ist das Ergebnis nicht gut, die Farbdefinition im Unterwasserprogramm ist schlecht geregelt und die Farben sind sehr dunkel. Jetzt im April werde ich das ältere Modell Canon PowerShot G1x mark iii testen und wir werden sehen. Wir verwenden derzeit Olympus Tough tg-6 und GoPro Hero 11. Daher empfehlen wir diese beiden Kameras. Die Olympus Tugh 6 eignet sich gut zum Filmen und Fotografieren unter Wasser, leider sind die Farben nicht so natürlich wie bei meiner alten Canon. G 16 sind etwas zu blau, aber die Qualität ist sehr gut. Die Farben der Strandfotos von Canon fangen das Beste der Malediven ein. GoPro 11 ist verbessert, verfügt über einen sehr effizienten Stabilisator und eignet sich gut für Unterwasseraufnahmen, insbesondere für Nahaufnahmen. Leider ist es schwierig, unter Wasser zu fotografieren, aber im Freien filmt sie gut und die Farben der Lagune sind großartig. Ich empfehle die Verwendung von Sony-Kameras auf den Malediven nicht, da die Farben zu grün sind. Daher empfehle ich Olympus Tugh 6 und auch GoPro 11, aber für Fotos außerhalb der Insel ist Canon am besten geeignet. Grüße.

I enjoyed watching some really cool Maldives videos. Among Angsana Ihuru, Safari, Nova, Angaga, Drift, Vilamendu, Athuruga, and Vabbinfaru, which would you recommend best when comparing price, underwater environment, meals, lagoon, and friendliness?
